Lowes was very deceptive. They gave us the distinct impression that they had done remodels before (as opposed to single-product installations). It was not until materials were being delivered to both my home and my deceased mother's condo (!!!) that we were informed that Lowes had NEVER done a complete remodel before and there were likely to be lots of mistakes. If I had known that Lowes was so inexperienced, I would have demanded a hefty beta-tester discount and/or a performance bond. Certainly, I would not have paid the entire retail price a month before work was to start. Eventually all materials for the whole job were stored at our house (except -Thank God! - the appliances). The garage was unusable for about 8 weeks. This remodel did not involve moving any walls, but has taken over 10 weeks so far (+ a little over 4 weeks waiting for materials) - we are still needing repairs and were without a usable kitchen for almost 7 weeks. A fan was installed that overlapped a cabinet door by about 1 foot - it was eventually moved. The glass tile for the back-splash was poorly cut with numerous blemishes - the worst blemishes were eventually covered by molding after we complained. The swinging door between the kitchen and dining room was improperly installed and broke after 2 days - Lowes says they will repair it. Unfortunately, this brings up another, more subtle reason why I would never go through Lowes (or any other big-box retailer) for a remodeling project. We originally wanted a door with a pivot hinge that could be locked in an open position. Lowes said this was and quot;unavailableand quot;. What they meant was it was not available from Lowes. The hinge can be ordered from HardwareSource.com for $50-$80 depending on finish. Instead they attempted to use double-acting 1.25 in hinges at a cost of $72, on a 1.5 in door. Similarly, we were restricted to a limited choice of tiles, and a false bead-board panel rather than true tongue and groove for wainscoting. Lowes may very well have exactly what you want for your remodel, but be ware that all they bring to the party is an extra layer of expense and finger-pointing. Distinctive specialty items for a truly high-end remodel are likely to be and quot;unavailableand quot;. Similarly, we wanted

We talked to the Lowe's folks at a home show and gave them our info. Shortly thereafter, we got a call to set up for and estimate. The estimator was on time and great to work with. I was surprised at the low pricing. Lowe's called almost immediately to set up installation. The installer was on time and got the job done very quickly. The next day we got a follow up call from Lowe's to make sure everything was ok. I was very pleasant ly surprised with the whole experience.

I've been going to Lowe's - Reno ever since they've been in town. They are very professional, very good and very accommodating. The reason why I keep going back is because I trust them and they stand by their products as well as their employees. The pricing is pretty good.

We have old aluminum framed windows in our home that are NOT energy efficient. In 2011 we looked for a vendor in Reno that sold and installed Milgard vinyl windows because we like the quality and the warranty. Our goal is to replace a few windows each year until all of our windows have been replaced with Milgard vinyl windows. At that time we found Lowes provided the best deal and we worked through them to have 5 windows replaced in December of that year. In 2012 we had Lowes come out to measure, and to provide an estimate for the replacement of, all of our remaining 18 windows and they did this at no cost to us. From there we decided what we could afford and which windows were next on our priority list for replacement. We met again with the Lowes window representative and completed a contract for the replacement of three (3) windows in our kitchen. We specifically requested the same sub-contractor that we used in 2011 and that was Carl Walton of Waltco Windows and Doors. We found Carl and his crew to be easy to work with, skilled, proficient and professional. The next step was having Carl come out and do a more precise measurement of the 3 windows we wanted replaced and then he made sure the windows got ordered through Lowes. Once the order was placed we were charged the full amount of the windows, labor and materials for this job. When the windows came in, we were notified by Lowes and we scheduled the work directly with Carl and Waltco. The installation occured as scheduled and once again we were very pleased with the windows and the quality of the installation. We plan to continue working with Lowes and Waltco Windows and Doors to have the remaining windows replaced. Overall, our experience was very good, but there are two areas about our experience that were frustrating and they are both with Lowes and not with the installer. First, was the Lowes estimate. In that estimate we were given the price of each window needing replacement, but only a lump-sum labor cost for the replacement of all of the windows. Each window varied in the labor costs based on the type of installation, size, trim, sealant, caulking, flashing and any other materials needed for installation. I tried to get more information from the estimator on this, but that didn't help much because he spoke in technical trade jargon that I didn't fully understand. As it was, I had to average and guess the labor costs for each window in order for us to make a decision on what we could afford and it turned out, fortunately, that I was fairly close. The second frustration is that Lowes requires payment for the entire job when they first order the windows. This means that you may have already paid for the windows and installation by the time the windows get installed. The only recourse we had with Lowes or the installer if we weren't happy with the installation was not signing the work completed/work satisfaction certificate handed me by the installer when the installation was done. At that point, as I understand it, Lowes and the installer would work to make the job right. Despite these two frustrations, we were confident that Lowes was providing us a competitive price on product and installation, and we had worked with their subcontractor Waltco Windows and Doors before and knew they did good work, so we contracted with Lowes again to have these 3 windows replaced. Frustrations aside, we will most likely work with Lowes again to replace our windows because of the ease of the process, the value, and the quality of the installation.
Description of Work: We worked with Lowes and one of their subcontractors to replace three windows in our home.

I did not like that, I had priced the windows myself and about four thousand of their bids were for labor, but they people were great. I would use them in the future if their prices are right.

They were very easy to work with. The turnaround time was quick and the subcontractor that they used did a really good job. In fact we want to have more windows done possibly this year and we will go back through Lowe's and specifically request for that same subcontractor.
Description of Work: We had them replace six windows. They pulled the old windows out and put in new ones and then put up new trim and sealed around them.
