J D CUSTOM CABINETS & FURN

Description of Work: Contracted with JD on November 20th for a custom filing cabinet. He cashed the 50% deposit check the next day. Contract said allow 8-10 weeks for delivery. At 12 weeks, contacted him and found he had not even started. We said we wanted to cancel the order, and he agreed. Said he would write a check and mail it to us. After another two weeks and no check, called again, and said we would stop by the shop to pick up the check. He said checkbook was at home. We called that evening to remind him; he said he didn't have the money and was behind on payments for other projects as well as behind schedule. After several more weeks and several more phone calls, he still did not return the deposit, and indicated he had no money to do so, stating "I owe other people money, too." We are now at 5 months, no cabinet, and no $500 deposit. Further research found others who had a similar experience. Our attorney advised that the cost of legal action would likely be more than the money we are out. JD apparently knows that, and knows we will not pursue him legally. Our only hope is that others will not get suckered in the same fashion. I suggest no one do business with JD Custom Cabinets!

Description of Work: Redesigned entertainment center adjacent to family room fire place. Removed former cabinetry. Constructed and installed new cabinetry and storage mantle.
