He proved equally incompetent in building steps as he was in building a garage on 11/20/07. The front steps had a dangerous 1 inch lip from the landing to the step, which is not up to code. The kitchen steps were also unsafe with no handrail. There was wood-to-earth contract, so the wood began to deteriorate. On 2/27/08 he failed again. There is a 7 inch gap between the kitchen door & the landing. The 1st step between the door & the landing is not equal in height to the 3 steps from the landing to the asphalt. The 1st step is 4 inches, the 2nd step is 5 inches, & the 3rd step is 5 inches. This discrepancy in the height of the steps has created a safety hazard, where people have tripped not only coming up the steps to get into the house but down the steps to exit the house. He made the same mistake of wood to earth contact by cutting the asphalt & putting the wood in direct contact with the dirt. He used non pressure treated wood to shim up the steps creating a code violation. The steps are not sturdy & shifted during the earthquake, making them unstable & unsafe. The handrail is also square & not round, another code violation. The steps don t meet 4 basic criteria to pass inspection, built to building code, adhere to good engineering standards, demonstrate common sense, & avoid the liability of a safety lawsuit. He failed to demonstrate common sense, good engineering practices, & there is a good possibility of being sued due to negligence. I had to replace the steps to avoid a lawsuit. The building permit he failed to get & construction to fix Bobby s poor work cost $1,500. He needs to reimburse me for the actual loss suffered due to his substandard work.
Description of Work: Complaint against gross incompetence by Robert Dennis of Deblor Corp for excessively long time for work done, poor communication, & poor workmanship. On 07/13/07, I bought 1059 W Plumb from another company who hired Bobby to complete a garage w/door, front & kitchen steps, concrete walkway, & a paved driveway. On 8/10/2007, he began construction on the garage. There were numerous problems, once the pouring of the garage foundation & frame of the garage was built, he failed to complete the rest of the garage until 2/7/2008. He didn't measure the distance for the garage door correctly the 1st time, & had to redo it. He was constantly unavailable & didn't return calls. He incorrectly installed the garage door, the support track was not aligned, the track was bent & broken, & the garage door broke apart & was rendered useless. The door was bent on the outside, there were deep cracks between the door panels, & the hinges were broken. He failed to complete the grading for the driveway, so from there was no driveway for 7 months. When he poured the concrete for the walkway he made a dangerous 6 inch step between the curb & the walkway & failed to remove the wood chips between the rocks & just poured the concrete on top of the wood & rocks. Bobby failed to communicate any information at all for another 3 months, so I believed he had abandoned the job. On 12/7/2007 Bobby met with the company the hired him and me, & arrived an hour late to the appointment, further proving his lack of regard to the value of our time. He said he would fix the garage door on 12/14/07 but did not come until 12/17/07. Again he failed to fix the garage door; he replaced the door but not the incorrect installation. He had to return a 3rd time to fix the garage door on 12/19/07. One part of the track was replaced, but the rest of the track remained misaligned.
