Mitchell'S Rv Works LLC

On 04/18/2012, after 800 to 850 miles of travel on local, state and interstate highways, from Pahrump, NV to Roseburg, OR, I noticed the carrier rack was close to touching the ground. I first thought the carrier rack had given way under stress but upon inspection I found it was the welds of the hitch installation that had failed. I don't beleive it would have taken much more driving to have had the carrier rack and generator detach completely from the 5TH Wheel. If this would happen in traffic, serious damage, injuries and death may have resulted. I took photos and then disassembled and removed the carrier rack and generator, I considered it very fortunate I was able to correct this very dangerous situation. On 04/23/2012, I sent an email and photos of this incident to Mitchell's RV Works and after receiving no reply, I called on 04/24/2012. I spoke with Jonathan Mitchell, the installer of the carrier rack and the owner of Mitchell's RV Works. He said this never happened before. I told him I was very concerned that someone could be seriously hurt or possibly killed as a result of his welds failing. I requested he get back with me and let me know what would be done to correct the failure of his welding. As of today, 04/28/2012, he has not gotten back to me. I am contacting Angie's List so as to warn others of the dangers involved in substandard welding work. Other than financial loss and damage to equipment, I beleive such work could cause serious bodily injury and possible death. This incident has been a wake up call for me. I do not feel comfortable in Mitchell's RV Works addressing this situation satisfactorily so I am letting the public know of this situation.
