UNIVERSAL TURF EQUIPMENT

I had an old lawn mower that I had purchased about 8 years ago but failed to maintain well. It was in desperate need of service and blade sharpening. I looked all around Las Vegas and could not find but one other small engine repair shop. I looked on Angie's List and found this shop and noted that customers were satisfied. I took my lawn mower to the shop and the owner came out, helped me to unload the mower and then gave me an estimate of approximately $150 to "do everything" as I had requested. However, he first examined the machine and after listening to the sound of the engine, stated that "everything" was not needed and that to sharpen the blade and add a new spark plug and filter, and cleaning, the estimate was about one third of that estimated. Not only that, even though it was just before a major holiday, the turn around time was only 24 hours! When I returned, the owner not only helped me to lift the mower into my SUV, but took the time to give me advice on how to better maintain the device. Total Cost: $45.46. The owner is a really friendly person who answers all of your questions and gives you a call when the equipment is ready for pickup. He keeps his word. Rather than charge you a big bill to repair a cheap lawn mower, he will tell you that it is not worth it and get a new one. This honesty really impressed me. I can confirm that if you need small engine equipment repairs, this is the place to take your lawn mower or other devices.

My father inlaw who was in the lawn mower repair business, bought us a new mower over 20 years ago. It has been in storage for the last 12 years, still contained the old oil and gas and was leaking gas. My husband tried to fix it himself but it was a mess! A new mower of the same quality was going to be very expensive. We read the reviews about Universal Turf on Angies List and even thought they were not close, decided to get an estimate for repairs. Repairing the mower was going to cost about half as much as a new one plus we were keeping one more thing out of the landfill. The mower was repaired and ready for pickup as promised. We have been using it for 2 months now and it runs great! They did a good job and we will definitely use Universal Turf Equipment again.

Extremely well

I first called Horizon from Angie's List and, because they only sell parts, they referred me to Universal Turf Equipment. I called and spoke to Jose who gave me their address and told me his boss was Moses. I live in Henderson and UTE is way across town on Bonanza, near the intersection with MLK, in Las Vegas. When I got there, the establishment is outdoors with a bell to ring for assistance. Moses showed up and I told him that my mower was running sluggish. I told him that I had cleaned and gapped the spark plug and that the air filter was clean. He walked out to my van and helped me take the heavy mower out onto the parking lot and asked me to start it up. I did, and it ran slow. He removed the air filter and there was no change. He then reached in by the carburetor and manually adjusted the plate which made the engine run normally. He then took his pliers and tugged on something by the carburetor and the engine began to run perfectly on its own. (I was standing at the handle of the mower holding the safety release lever down so the mower would keep mowing, so I couldn't see exactly what he did. But it sure worked!) I asked what he did and he told me that the governor spring was loose; I think he tugged on the governor lever, it may have been stuck. He would not accept any payment for what he did, even though he spent about 15 minutes of his time with me! During his inspection before and after all the above, he could tell that my gas was old (last season!) by smelling it; he said gas goes old after 30 days. He also checked my oil and, even though it was full, he knew it was old (he was correct!) and needed to be changed. This fellow KNOWS HIS BUSINESS and I most certainly recommend him to anyone. I absolutely will use him if I need his services in the future. Yesterday, I thought I needed a new mower and the similar model at Sears was $329...taking my mower to Universal Turf Equipment only cost me about an hour of my time! That is a great deal!
