The installation of the hot water heater went really well. I've been a customer for Sierra Air for a few years now. Their technicians are always friendly, professional and happy to answer any questions. They arrive on time and do their best to make sure you are satisfied with the work done. In the past they replaced my air conditioner and have come out for any necessary maintenance. It's always been a pleasant experience starting with the call to their office. They are an easy company to work with. If you are in the process of getting estimates you should add them to your list.

OK except for replacing a capacitor on the three-year-old AC unit. Should a capacitor cost $235 to install as part of scheduled maintenance? We pay $16 a month toward each six-month maintenance. They also scuffed the stucco on the wall above the AC unit.

Quick responses. Capable, professional, friendly advisers and technicians. Competitive prices. During a routine fall service visit in October, the company we had a service contract with recommended that we replace both downstairs and upstairs units because they were failing. Their estimate was more than $25,000, so I advised that I needed to check with other companies to get other estimates. I also sent their findings to my dad, who had installed and maintained residential and commercial HVAC units for years. He agreed that the downstairs unit needed to be replaced but didn't think we had to replace the upstairs unit just yet--unless we just wanted to. I kept his expert opinion to myself as a guide in selecting who would install the system. Sierra sent Shawn to evaluate our systems and offer recommendations. His recommendations matched my dad's, and the estimate for one new unit plus repairs to the second existing unit totaled less than half of the first estimate we received. Plus, he alerted us to a rebate available from our local energy company. Because we contacted them through one of those large consumer warehouses, we also qualified for a rebate through them, which decreased the total cost even more. On the day of installation, Shawn arrived with the installation crew, introduced me to them, and explained what they would do and how long it would take. The crew members worked tirelessly all day to remove the old system and install the new one. When they were done, they showed us the work and taught us how to use the thermostat (which is about the size of an iPad mini). UPDATE: In July, our upstairs unit stopped working in the middle of the night. I contacted Sierra the next morning, and they sent a technician to evaluate the unit. We wound up having to replace it. The experience replacing the second unit was as good as the first. The total cost for replacing both units was still well under the first estimate.

The installations went well. Two visits were required as one unit was on back order. The main installations (2) were done in under 10 hours. Great care was taken to protect my property and keep things clean. This was a very expensive operation but I was given full information as to my options and available rebates. The old systems were over 13 years old and in the Las Vegas area got a lot of use.

I bought my new air conditioning through Costco. They were working with Costco and they installed it. I have two units, an upstairs and a downstairs unit that they installed. It was the ac and the furnaces. At the time of the installation and working with the people I'd say "A". My one disappointment i've had since is that I think its what they call the big air tank that they have on them. When they expand I get a big noise. I get a boom. But that's probably my fault. I didn't address it right away and only became concerned about it a couple of years into the contract. But i never said anything to them. The people were really good. They know what they're doing. They come in, they get it done. I would definitely use them again. I would just be more a little bit aggressive on my end about certain things.

We have a service contract with them. We actually have 2 complete systems. It has its own stand alone system in addition to the main house. So they do the whole 9 yards. We have a comprehensive service contract with them so it covers all labor and parts and that good stuff. It is $300 a year for both systems. They are probably one of the more expensive but even so I would still give them an A. We have used them for 10 years now.

They're a little high on their price, but it was through a wholesale supplier so there were quite a bit of incentives. There was a $2,000 rebate back on the 2 units and then there was also the 2% rebate back through my card. I actually do use them on an on-going basis. In fact, I have just taken out a service contract with them starting this year. I would recommend that they definitely go through a wholesale supplier because they get a really good rebate program for it. They are one of the vendors that pays to have a booth there at the wholesale supplier. They also do about 70-80% of the residential HVAC installations here in the Las Vegas valley. There were about 14 guys that came out to complete the installation. They were outstanding. They showed up at 7 o'clock in the morning. They had 3 crews to do 3 specific jobs and then at noon they actually hired an independent crane company to come in and lift the units into place. Everything was completely installed and operational by 6 o'clock that night.
Description of Work: It was pretty extensive. Everything on the heating and air conditioning units, we have a dual unit, we have 2 units & everything was replaced. All of the ducts, all the mechanical, all the grill covers were replaced. They re-engineered it and put in additional returns & upgraded the system. It was very extensive. They re-did the electrical and everything.

Originally installed the HVAC through the builder in our new 2012 build house. When our heat didn't work in the Winter of 2012, we called and Sierra sent an emergency technician, who said the heat was not even connected. The technician fixed it within an hour under the builder warranty. In May of 2014, I called about just a general service check-up on our two A/C units. I was sold on a service contract for a twice per year checkup ($70/unit, A/C in summer, Heat in winter) with "discounted service calls if we need them". The price seemed a little high, but I decided to move forward. I was then told it would be at least SIX WEEKS before a technician could come out and perform the annual maintenance as they are "very busy". I ended up declining the service contract and moved on to another provider who could make it within a week for less money. I will not be calling Sierra Air again.

1. Failed to fully charge refrigerant in Heat Pump system. 2. Installed faulty TXV? valve in system. 3. Installed service cover upside down on solar heat exchanger, making it impossible to remove with normal tools. 4. Refused to provide service on unit without service call payment agreement. 5. Flexible Ducting installed by this contractor had serious kink, restricting airflow into the structure. 6. In response to my query for service on the equipment and to request a quote for addition of a high quality filter, sent a sales person instead of a technician whose sole mission was to sell their preferred product. 7. All defects, including the equipment warranty claim, were resolved quickly and efficiently by an alternative service provider at my expense. My initial request for service from these folks was made to my home's builder, Meritage Corporation, as a warranty claim. When this could not be arranged through the builder without incurring a charge for the service call, I elected to contract with an alternative service supplier, AireServ. The defects in my system were discovered and corrected by the AireServ technician. The system was less than 4 months old at the time. It has performed perfectly since that time. 4

My husband was at our home when the provider arrived. They provider took a look at the unit and said we needed a new air compressor. My husband asked for a quote. The man flipped through some sort of HVAC Manual and said it would cost anywhere between $250 - $500 to replace the part. He told my husband "You're lucky your home is still under the 5 year warranty or the service would cost you $2,000." Our service was scheduled for Saturday, May 24th. One hour prior to when the repairman was to arrive, we received a call from Sierra Air stating that it was going to cost $1900 for labor. My husband was outraged. He asked that they cancel the visit, because a price like that is entirely too much. I called around to get 2nd opinions. I learned that it would cost $1700 to replace an air compressor that WASN'T under warranty, and since ours was, we had another company install it for $1,000. I cannot believe Sierra Air was trying to overcharge us by $900!!
Description of Work: The provider came out to diagnose the issue we were having with our 2nd story air conditioning unit. They also provided an estimate of how much labor would cost: between $250 -$500.

I saw them at COSTCO and was looking into reducing my summer power bills. I though that possibly a new efficient system would provide a quicker payback now, rather than waiting a few years for the loud existing system to quit. The salesman compared efficiencies of the new system to mine and I quickly saw there was no advantage to replacing the system. He did however suggest I add a Filtering system to my unit to increase the air flow that being constricted by the existing ceiling mount filters. There would have to be a minor duct piece and my furnace needed a stabilizer bracket to keep it level (Poor Las Vegas construction). The salesman had Zero Literature and pricing was written down on a Piece of Paper. I questioned the Total Price of $ 1,800 dollars as being to much. So after haggling about price for over an hour (Like you'd do at a bazaar), the price was lowered to $ 1,100. I still had three days to cancel the contract so I looked up the materials on the net and found they could be purchased for less than $ 500. I did go forward with the install and the technicians did an excellent job. I have much better Air Flow in my house and like the new system. I'm waiting on the A/C and Heating tune-up (included in the Price) to see their service job performance. The follow up after installation has been average at best and I'm still not sold if I'll keep this vendor after the two service calls are completed, although I always feel if COSTCO is in the mix, I do have a company that ultimately stands behind products sold by any of their vendors.
