Description of Work: I needed replacement spring on my garage door. Angieslist highly recommended company Precision Overhead Door of Las Vegas. When called and asked for the service lady that spoke with me didn't want to quote me even approximate price but was told that technician will arrive to inspect the door ($60 charge) and proceed from there. The technician showed up "inspected" my door and after calculating and shuffling numbers on his tablet told me that with the discounts price to replace both springs would be $420. I was shocked with the out, but he was already there so I almost went for it, changing my mind at the last moment. I called couple more companies which, this time my friend recommended and was quoted price of $199 and $220 from two companies for the same job. Now I end up paying $260 for the job, and the diagnostic that my spring was broken, which I already knew.

Our garage door opener sheered off the main gear and the door was extremely difficult to open. I called Precision as they were the only ones who had hours on Sunday. This allowed me to be home and deal with the tech rather than have someone else there or take the day off. The tech was able to replace the gear on the garage door opener and explain why this had occured. When the door was replaced the company had installed smaller cheaper springs putting a lot of strain on the opener. Steve, the tech, was extreamly knowledgable and answered all the questions I had during the coarse of the work. While he was doing some of the work I was able to do some online research and was able to confirm all the information he reported. Precision did give me a 5 year warranty on all the replacements, which is more than the standard 1 year that other places were offering. Steve stayed and finished the job even though it was more than I originally called in about. It was very obvious that the springs where undersized when I tested the door after all the work was completed. I was able to now open and close it with one hand, the way I thought it should have always been. While calling around other companies today I found that Precision was about $100 to $200 more than other companies but I do not feel I was ripped off. Steve was very professional and pleasant to deal with. Sometimes going with the cheapest company is not always the best, as this was why I had this issue in the first place. Even though Precision only got a B on Angies List I feel that most of the reviewers focused too much on the final cost, not the quality of the work. I am very happy with the experience and worked preformed and this was all done on a Sunday.
Description of Work: Replaced the gears in the garage door opener, replaced the springs, lubed all rollers and adjusted the door.

I was in my garage the morning of July 17th and noticed that the door had a made a popping noise when it came down. I did not think anything of it til my wife came home, opened the door and then closed it. The door attempted to close but ended up being sligltly cocked to one side. As well the cable on the right side of the door had come loose from the roller. The door was still in the tracks, no rollers had come loose The door was not out the tracks. My wife noticed that the door had a sticker on that was from Precision Overhead Door Services. We decided to give them a call since they must have in the past serviced the door. The company was prompt coming out to the house. They did show up on time and performed the work. The problem was when it was time to settle the bill. I was more than a little floored by the price. The invoice was not filled out before the work was performed. A laminated price list was on the technician's clipboard with many prices. I saw the prices. All I needed was the cable to put back on the roller. No parts were needed! No new cable or springs were used. The serviceman back off the pressure of the spring reattached the cable to the roller. Operated the door several times up and down. Lubricated the door. Then gave me the shocking news. The price on the invoice was $369.95. I believed that the charge was going to be $99.75 for the labor. Instead he told me that this was a "Class 1", off track garage door situation. Again the door was not off the tracks. It was only sligtly cocked to one side due to the cable coming off. Again the whole job took 30 minutes to correct. My wife called the company and asked to speak to the manager. He was not in, but was assured he would call back. We were both angry of this outrageous price! I felt tho I was being charged a penalty for the cable coming off. The serviceman made it sound like he was saving me money even by using the old cable instead of replacing it. There was nothing wrong with old cable anyway. I thought there was something seriously wrong with the door. or that it would have to be realigned or something. This was not the case at all. I was patient and waited for the manager to call me back. By the afternoon I still had not been called. I called the company again and approx and hour later I was called by the manager Tim. My outrage then truly began with this person. He said he would have to talk to the technician and call me back again. I did tell him I thought the price was out of line. We had several back and forth telephone calls. Before the final call. My last call that so outraged me was the 3 way call with the Tim and the technician. I was bascially schooled again on the degrees of what qualifies of an off track door. As well as statements that I have no ideal have to do with the service performed. Tim told me they were an American company and they pay their taxes. That they always try and make it right with their customers. he asked me what i thought would make me happy. I responded that I would be willing to pay half the bills. Well, needless to say, that did not happen. He did point out that the service called was waived $49.95, of course is says on the website that they do that. He said that was a benefit to me. Also on the bill they also charge a Fuel-Energy Surcharge of $19.95. The more time I spent on the phone with this person, the more frustrated I became. Customer service in this day an age is a plus. A calm and rational manager after a problem arises is a must. However, charging someone $12.31 a minute for such a simple job is ridiculous. That is what it works out to for the service provided. I did call several companies to see if my suspicions of this job performed was a high price, and out of the 5 companies I called they were glad to give me an estimate of the work and not one of these companies quoted a price over $100.00. I as well told Tim this and he told me that everyone does that and then charges more once they are here. I will give them credit they do not try and tell you any prices when you call them. My personal opinion is that way they can at least get there $49.95 for coming to your house and doing nothing more. In the end my bill was dropped $100. I was not satisfied!! However, there was not much I could do after the fact. I understand that not all Precicion Overhead Door may be the same since each is a franchise. However, the pratices of this company and the customer service of this particular one deserves and "F-". From now on I will go to Angie's list to check out a company. In fact it was due to this experience that I joined Angie's list.
Description of Work: The cable on the right side of the garage door had come off the roller that is on the spring arm that runs across the top of the door. The cable was put back on the roller and the door was lubricated. Total time for work from the time he arrived till he left 30 minutes.

After noticing our garage door opening at unexpected times of the day, I contacted Precision Garage doors and agreed on a service date. The technician came out on the agreed date, 4 June and reprogrammed the transmitter and the garage door opener to a new frequency, He also performed periodic maintenance on the door. Since one of our remotes was broken, I purchased a new one also.
Description of Work: Reprogrammed transmitters for new frequencies. Purchased new remote and had periodic maintenance performed.

I tried to fix it myself and took out screws from a bracket that had tension on it. I realized I made a mistake and called for professional help. I got the name of this company from a friend who had used them. When I called, I asked for the cost. The woman who answered said the technician would give me a quote when he came. I looked at their website and printed out a coupon for a free service call, supposedly worth $50. It took Darren, the technician, about 10 minutes to put everything back together. He did check the door for other problems and said the limit switch was broken. He went to see if he had one on the truck. I went in the house to look up the price of a replacement. It was about $22 on the manufacturers website. He came back with a quote of $50 for the part. I said it was too much. We agreed on $30, I thought it would have been simple enough to order the part and install it myself. When Darren made out the bill, he said there was a surcharge of $19.95 for fuel. I don't like hidden charges. So he got $50 for the part anyway. I feel this is a deceptive business practice not to inform the customer at the beginning of the job of all the charges. This is not an ethical way to do business. The service man was competent but he should have informed me of all the charges at the beginning. I give him credit that originally he said the cost would be higher for a "level 2" service, when the repair was completed so easily, he charged me for a "level 1" service. He was at my house around 30 minutes from start to finish. I think a charge of $130 would have more than made them a profit for 30 minutes work. I will look for another company next time to perform repairs..

We called Precision and spoke with Michelle - a very courteous and professional woman who sent Bob, a technician and installer down to our house. He gave us what we belleive to be a fair estimate for an overhead garage door opener called "Liftmaster." He installed it that day. We have had no problems at all. It appears to us that Precision knows their business and knows customer service.
Description of Work: Last October we bought a Genie from Home Depot and had a Home Depot Contractor install this garage door opener. It was a nightmare, with bolts falling down on our car, etc., and it never worked right. We contacted Precision this June and had them put in a Liftmaster. The installer was professional, courteous, punctual, did great work and we thought the price was fair. (Incidentally, Home Depot finally refunded our money, after many go arounds.) We are absolutely happy with our new garage door opener, would use Precision again in a heartbeat and would easily recommend this company to anyone who needs a garage door opener installed. We have nothing but good things to say about them.

We initially chose Precision to perform the work we requested because they were very professional, seemed to use good-quality materials, and were priced appropriately (they were second highest of our four bids). The ladies in the office (Michelle and Bobbie) that take phone calls and schedule appointments were always very friendly. We scheduled our installation about two weeks out and were given a four-hour window in which the work would be performed. Our only problem with the entire experience was that we were not informed that the tech would arrive sometime within the four-hour window, not at 8 AM like we thought. Our technician, Travis, was very courteous, answered all questions patiently, and performed the installation quickly and smoothly because we were in a rush for an appointment following his arrival. He also came back the next business day we were available to do some cleanup of the door itself and to replace a trim piece that we asked to have replaced because it was slightly bent. Since installation, we are satisfied with the smooth, relatively quiet operation of the door and motor.
Description of Work: We had four garage door contractors supply us with bids to replace our garage door with an insulated one and also to replace our chain-driven motor with a belt-driven one. Precision sent Travis to give us an estimate so we called upon him to do the installation for us. The door model we chose was a white Amarr Stratford 2000 (insulated), without windows. A unique feature of this door is that it is designed to be "pinch-proof", meaning there are not gaps between the panels where children/adults could put their hands. The motor was a 3/4 HP LiftMaster belt drive unit. Travis also removed and replaced our previous wall-mount internal and external control pads, and he was kind enough to program our vehicle's Home Link.

Our 21 year old garage door opener was not working well. We called Precision and the tech, Travis, was at our home within a few hours. Our garage door is only four years old, but the opening mechanism was 21 years old and was really worn out. One of the two springs for the door was broken entirely. The rollers were sort of square instead of round, and there was a lot of clunking when the door jerked up and down. We decided to replace all working parts and the mechanical motorized opener itself. Travis did the work well and was polite. The new mechanism is quieter, quicker, and safer than the old one. We will definitely recommend Precision to friends who need work done on their garage door openers.

Garage door remotes at house malfunctioned as I was preparing to go out of town. Called Precision and promptly had Brandon, the repair tech, at the house in less than 2 hours. He was able to fix the reprogram the remotes so they worked properly. While he was at the house, I also asked him to inspect the garage door operation because it made a terrible racket when it opened and closed, which I knew was not normal. He pointed out that the garage door only had one spring, instead of two, at the header, which meant the spring would wear out faster. He also noted that the garage door could use an additional strut in the middle to prevent the door from warping over time. Finally, I asked him to replace the existing rollers with new nylon rollers, so the door would open more quietly. He gave me an estimate, which seemed reasonable, and had the job done in about an hour. The garage door is so much quieter now when it opens and closes. Can't believe the difference. Extremely pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Replaced garage door springs, center bearing, and nylon rollers. Added additional strut to garage door for stability. Reprogramed malfunctioning garage door remotes.

I believe that for him to have even showed up with someone who was not a part of the company was so unprofessional. He came out around 9 - 10 that night. The next day I called and told them of my experience and they acted like it was not a big deal. I called them back on 3 way with my credit card company and they said they would reimburse me $200, but they never did. I will never use this company again and I would not recommend them.
Description of Work: I looked in the phonebook for a garage service and called them. I believe it was a Sunday or a Monday night. When the guy got to the house he showed up with a female and after he gave me the estimate he wanted to leave and take her wherever she wanted to go and come back. He did do the repair work.

They were trying to up sell me to buy a brand new door, they just kept pushing me to do more work than was needed. I contacted another company and they were able to fix it the next day. Precision door charged me 200 dollars and they did not even fix the problem. I felt that they were just trying to get money out of me. I am trying to get my money back for the 200 dollars that charged. I kept calling to talk to the manager and they kept saying that he was unavailable or that they would have him call me back. Then they had two different girls tell me that they were office managers. He never contacted me back and now I am trying to get the money through the credit companies. And he did contact me a few days ago and he would still not admit that they had done wrong by me. I talked to the company that repaired my door and told me that Precision had had lots of negative reports.

Response from Precision Overhead Door of Las Vegas
Our company was phoned at approximately 4:30pm and our Certified Technician arrived at the customers home at approximately 6:00pm the door was completely off track, and hanging only by the operator. Jeff our Technician spent approximately 1 ½ - 2 hours and had to take the door completely apart and put it back together again in order to get it closed and secure for the night. We do not charge any additional fees for nights and weekends and waived the $49.95 Service Call. In my opinion, we provided excellent service to get a Service Technician out in the evening, within two hours of the request for service, got the door down and secure, had the member sign and initial the invoice authorizing the work for the amount quoted, and completely waived the service call. Our Service Manager, Sam, tried no less than ten times to call the member, to no avail as confirmed with our phone records. When we did get in contact with her she was demanding a 100%%%% refund because our technician would not rewind her old springs, which is unsafe and not recommended, then hung up on us. The technician charged our published rate for a level II, Off Track Service, which given the time and effort was more than fair and reasonable. As a company, we operate with absolute integrity throughout the organization, are bonded, licensed, insured and put each of our technicians through an extensive training program. Our technicians are trained to only recommend what we think is the correct repair for doors and operators for the long term, considering safety, performance, and value. We operate the company with thousands of completely satisfied customers each year, and do our best to insure our excellent reputation for integrity, quality, service, and value.

Precision Door Service did an excellent job on the repair of my garage door. They came right away after I called them and they gave me a lifetime warranty on the springs and rollers. I liked that they didn't try to over sell me things I didn't need. The cost for the labor was cheap but I felt the parts were a bit expensive; however it seemed to equal itself out.
