This was the worst experience of my life. RUN; don't walk away from this unscrupulous, unlicensed contractor. The owner, Ralph Waisman, had every excuse in the book not to have the cabinets done by deadline. He blamed my salesman for taking too large a cut in my sale and his previous partner for "stealing" the rest of the money I paid. He whined constantly that he was doing my job for next to nothing and that he could just go bankrupt and not have to complete the job at all (yes, he actually told me this several times). Ralph constantly suggested if I just paid him more he might finish earlier (an absolute lie because at the 5 month mark after I paid and he pleaded for more money, I gave him 10 grand of business from my girlfriend so that he could use her money to complete my job. He actually (mostly) finished her job in three months and still did not begin my work until 4 months later (and only because I went crying to his office as my husband had contracted prostate cancer and this was all too much stress to endure). Ralph was forthcoming with me and every time, he was being sued he would tell me of his Court date. Ralph was incredibly arrogant. Ralph Waisman and his son Justin would lie nearly every week and say my cabinets were almost completed when they hadn't even been started. The majority of days he actually told me that he was showing up to start installation just to have me wait all day until he called at the end of the day to cancel due to some ridiculous lie. I waited over 300 days at home for cabinets that I was told were coming that morning only to be canceled the same afternoon. In actuality, Ralph did not even start construction of the kitchen cabinet boxes until 9 months after the down payment. Then, after tearing out the kitchen and making numerous damages, he left me with nothing in the kitchen for another two months. He didn't complete the roll out drawers for yet another two months and the kitchen doors didn't get completed for another two months more after that. A total of fifteen months after payment. My kitchen is not totally done yet as he never completed over the cook top or made a fruit stand I paid for. AFTER tear out, Ralph said he ran out of money to pay for the granite surface and the cook top that he was contracted to pay for due to tardiness (and no sink or cook top could be installed without some kind of surface). As my husband was getting out of surgery and I needed a kitchen to cook him three meals a day while he convalesced at home for a few months, I was basically forced to pay an extra $12,000.00 for granite and cook top just to get the kitchen started. I had no time to be surface shopping for something else. My husband was an invalid and needed me home 24/7. I had to buy what had already been chosen at a granite company months earlier and they had been holding the slabs all that time waiting for Ralph to pay. Finally, Ralph did not finish the work on the re-fronts until the 18 month mark. EVIL!
Description of Work: I spent 33 GRAND on this project. This was an ADA handicap contract. We were supposed to have all new custom ADA approved cabinets for the kitchen and custom re-fronts for the laundry room and three bathrooms completed within 5 months per written contract. Services were nearly non-existent and far between at best. He installed nothing for over 9 months. At the nine month mark after down payment, he finally started to tear out my kitchen. Beware, this company provides either no or inadequate protection for you flooring. Many stupid mistakes were made by his inexperienced people and things were damaged in the kitchen tear out (including my Brazilian cherry floor) that cost me many unexpected extra bills. Much later I found out that Kitchen Concepts used unlicensed people for the tear out which was illegal. There were numerous problems with the installation. Ralph's son, Justin, (supposedly the only one with a license for tear out and installation-but the license part proved to be a lie) had diabetes and would constantly use the "illness" card and want to shorten his already little time at my house due to his health. Once gone, it would take months to get him back. I was in tears constantly. Ralph's major blunder was my kitchen island that was supposed to have 18 drawers. But he made them 17.75" instead so that the self closing standard 18" sliding drawer hardware could not be used. I had to drop down to the next one made-a 15" sliding mechanism. But that means I have three inches of non-usable back cabinet space all the way around the island. It will cost $5,000.00 or more to replace the island as there is already granite on it. Additionally, he constructed the cabinet over the cook top improperly. I asked for a 42 opening so that a vent might be bought in the future, but he made the opening 41 or so making it impossible to buy a pre-existing hood vent. It now has to be custom made, which will be incredibly expensive. More problems with installation, I actually had to pay Ralph's laborers directly just to keep them working overtime after 3:00 PM (and this is because they never showed up until around 11:00 AM to start) or I might not have seen them again. If Ralph had a newly paying job elsewhere that's where he would be. He already considered me a lost cause at the 18 month mark. Ralph wasn't willing to pay overtime. To add insult to injury I had to pay for nails, handle screws, cherry edging, painters tape and the time for a few trips to the home improvement store. I spent over $300.00 extra for goods and services that should have been included in any cabinet contract. This company and its owner, Ralph Waisman (and son Justin), needs to be put out of business ASAP. Kitchen Concepts and Ralph Waisman has had several Contractors Board complaints filed against them, and my complaint has been recently added to try to get back about $15,000.00 in contracted items he failed to pay for. He also already has several monetary judgments against him.
