Ken's Lawn Service

Called Ken on a Tuesday and he said that he could help me either Thursday or Friday of the same week and that he would call to let me know when. He called the next night to tell that it would be Thursday. We negotiaited a time and he was there on time. He assessed the situation, provided me with a quote and began working immediately. In abouit 1 hours time, they were done, cleaned up the area and left. He had told me ahead of time, that it would cost extra to haul away the broken branches, so I asked that they just stack them in my yard and I would deal with it. They cut the branches into reasonable lengths and stacked them where I asked them to. All went well and will probably contact Ken this fall to get my yard into shape for the winter months.

I have scheduled 4 appointments with them, and every time he did not show up. The last time, he didn't show up, and didn't even bother to call me. At this point I have decided to cancel the service and get my money back. UPDATE: I want to be present when a new person is working on anything in my house so that I can ensure that they are doing what needs to be done. Additionally, I live in a gated community and have to "buzz" the people in. I called on or around April 24, and made an appointment for Friday, April 27th. Ken called that Wednesday (April 25) to say that he had a problem with his worker (the worker had to go to San Francisco because his mother needed help), so we scheduled for the next Friday, May 4th. Ken said that he would arrive around 10AM. When he did not arrive, I called and left a message at 10:30 am. Then, I called at 11:30 am. Ken picked up and said that he didn't know when he would arrive at my house. He said that he would call back. He called back at 11:48 am and stated that he had to finish a job and then go to another job. He stated that he would be at my house about 1:30PM or so. I told him that we needed to reschedule. I suggested Tuesday, and he stated that would be fine. He suggested 7:30am as he could come directly to my house. I agreed since I had workers inside the house that day in the morning. The night before (Monday night), he called at 6:18 pm and left a message stating that it would be more like 8:00am or 8:30am. The day of his visit, he called me at 8:32am and stated that he couldn't come that day because he thought that I lived in Henderson, not near Aliante in the north. He said that he would come out the next day, Wednesday. I said fine, and what time. He stated that he would be out by 10 or 11. He never came and never called. Based on what he told me in earlier conversations, he left for Texas that Wednesday evening. After 4 attempts to get him to come, I gave up. So, yes, he spoke to me on several occasions. Additionally, appointments were made for April 27 (worker out of town), May 4 (would arrive about 4 hours late), May 8 (forgot/didn't know where I lived), and May 9 (did not show up). (The times that he called are listed on my caller ID). As I stated originally, it was time to look for another provider.

Purchased an Angie's Deal for three man hours of work (2 workers for 1 1/2 hours, or one worker for 3 hours). Two guys showed up, and they left after one hour. That doesn't quite add up. Admittedly, my backyard was a mess, but there was plenty more that could have been done in the remaining thirty minutes. I feel like I have been ripped off. In two words: Don't bother.

Used an Angie's Big Deal for three man-hours of clean-up work. Spoke with Ken and they came while we were out-of-town to do the work. They couldn't complete the clean-up job in the time allotted so they just left. Didn't follow-up with a phone call or message. When we got back home, I could see the job wasn't complete and called him. He said they just did the 3 hours of work and that was that. I told him I would have gladly paid more for him to finish the job. They were 80-90% done. He COULD HAVE called my contact number while they were on-site and got my approval. VERY disappointing. What they did was fine. Just poor communication and no follow-up.

I thought I would get more service. I just wasn't very impressed. I have never had the service done before, so I don't know what the price should be. He was prompt and on time.

Ken and his crew arrived on time as scheduled. They did an excellent Spring cleanup on our property. From weeding to tree trimming, every item on my "to do" list was completed to my satisfaction and they even went above and beyond by removing dead foliage I had not asked them to do. I highly recommend them!Spring

Ken's Lawn Service arrived on time with his helper. They were very friendly. Helper went right to work with the aerator and did a fine job. I would use them again.

Two men arrived on the day of the service appointment. They were prompt and got right to work inspecting the sprinkler system. They made a few minor adjustments to some of the sprinklers and gave recommendations for other work to improve the health of the lawn. The men were polite and courteous. The experience was good.

I found him on Angie's List. The price was based on a deal I also found on Angie's List. He came out, was on time, and did a good job.

He is a little expensive, but he does a great job. He worked on my yard for a couple of years. I believe I was searching online and saw his advertisement, which is how I chose him. I like him very much. He and his workers have been nice and helpful.

He was a very pleasurable guy, him and his assistant came out and had this pretty good size machine. Brought the machine out in the yard working away poking the holes through there and it's kind of like a telar. Run back and forth across the ground and poke the holes in. He was here when he said, answered my phone call when I called, and they were personable and his assistant did a nice job.

Two men showed up to my house, rang the door bell. I had to put my dogs away, when I opened the door they were on their way to my backyard already. I didn't like that they knew I was home but decided not to wait and go into my yard themselves. They were dressed horribly, one man looked like a "hill-billy", with cut off jeans that were raggady and a yellow t-shirt with cut off sleves and unkept hair. The other man was not comfortable to be around. Neither of them had strong social skills and the entire experience was very awkward.

When I made his last payment I requested he return my yard key. He didn't and I changed my locks.

I think they do a good service for aerating and possibly fertilizing the yard but when it comes to more intricate things like changing the sprinklers they don't do a good job. For more detailed service than mowing or aerating they probably aren't a good choice.

It was very bad. I assumed all the sprinklers worked after he left and they did not. All my plants are now dying.

Don't use this service and don't buy the coupon from Angie.

poor service, very disappointed! what i thought would improve only got worse! ...2months of down hill service!

I pay him $70 a month. He does exactly what he says he is going to do. His price is excellent and I am very happy with it. They show up on time and I hardly ever see them.

I purchased a special off of Angie's List for an aeration and fertilizing treatment from Ken's Lawn Service. It so happened they were in my neighborhood when I called and they came to my house after they finished their current job and serviced my lawn. I had service on the same day, great! I'm sure this is not typical but I was impressed with them on how they "fitted" me into their schedule on short notice. They were prompt, professional and fast. I see they had a couple bad reviews but from what I have experienced so far I am going to use them as my lawn service for the summer. I have signed up for weekly lawn care for what I believe to be a fair price. I will write a review about their lawn services in a couple months.

Contacted Ken in Nov. of 2010 for lawn work, repair of sprinkler system and general upkeep. We agreed upon a price, I paid him $80 for a month's worth of service and he started working...by mowing our little patch of grass in back (less than 20 x 20). He then left for Texas and then on to Thailand leaving a worker behind to do the work. Obviously, the patch of grass didn't need mowing, since it was winter, but I asked that my front yard be raked and that the sprinkler system in the back be repaired. All his worker did was visit once to mow the lawn again needlessly and once to rake up about a ONE gallon bag of leaves in the back. At this point, in January of this year, I sent Ken an email via Angie's list and followed it up with a telephone call to let him know that I was unimpressed with his worker's lack of work and that I felt it best if I called him if I needed him. At this time he said he was in Texas and would let his worker know. I never heard from either his worker nor Ken again until March 11, 2011 when Ken showed up at my door demanding $105 for work done over the past couple of months!!! I informed him that his worker had NOT been to my house from the time I had called Ken in Texas and that I was surprised to see him, Ken, since I had not received a call or a bill from him since I had, in fact, fired him over both Angie's List and the phone in January. He stated that he had sent a bill after returning from having been in Thailand for the last two months. It obviously was "lost in the mail", since I handle all our finances and never received an invoice from him (he did not offer to show me his copy of said invoice.) I also stated that his worker had only been to my house twice the entire time he was off traveling and that was prior to January 11, 2011 and he had already been paid in advance for four visits and there had only been three in total, with the third visit being for a ridiculously tiny amount of raking (truly the amount of leaves would have fit in a Ziploc storage bag!) He yelled out my door to the fellow in his truck and asked how often he had been to my house and the fellow said "every two weeks." A bald face lie as my yard was more than evidence that NO ONE had touched it in months! When I pointed this fact out to Ken, he then said, "just give me half and we will call it good." I was not about to fight over $52.50...I just wanted these less than scrupulous people to leave my home and not come back. So I wrote him a check, affirmatively stated his services were no longer wanted and showed him the door. I would recommend that you look elsewhere for honest, actually working landscapers.

During the first visit, I had to ask Ken to take care of obvious things that he missed (broken irrigation, weeds, etc) and he seemed irritated, but I was willing to wait it out and see how he performed over a few visits. But things didn't seem to get any better, and he made some comments about how everyone should have grass (which I am strongly against in the desert), so my husband started dealing with him during his visits. When Ken didn't show up on time, or even on the right day, and the work was not done properly, my husband finally called and told him that we wouldn't be using his services any more. Ken proceeded to make comments about how he knew it wasn't going to work out anyway and proceeded to bill me not just for the day he "cleaned" the yard, but for an additional day that he did not provide service.

He was professional and thorough. I told him to email the quote to me, and he did. Everything went well.

The sprinkler in the front yard was busted and he came out right away to fix it. I was very pleased. I called him and he set up an appoint for that week. My husband was home that day and said that Ken was punctual and had the problem fixed in a jiffy. I would definitely use this company again.

I contacted Ken when my other lawn service went out of business. He was very courteous, professional and prompt. He now provides me with monthly lawn service. His price is fair and he always shows up when he tells you he will. I am very pleased with his service and would recommend him to anyone looking for lawn service.

The work went very well with the owner and one worker present for approximately four hours. The cost included all the plants, fertilizers and parts to repair irrigation system and extend it to new plants. I was so impressed with the work and the price that I decided to give them my monthly maintenance contract.
