I am looking for a professional yard maintence service.
Description of Work: I hired JandJ Landscape to provide yard maintenance services twice a month for $100, which included: weeding; trimming shrubs; lawn mowing & lawn maintenance. My property is mostly desert landscaping, which includes decorative rock in the front yard, with 1 canary palm and 1 Mediterranean palm (trimmed by another professional tree service), star jasmines and a small hedge. The back yard contains 2 Mexican palms and 2 Mediterranean palms and 1 Chilean mesquite tree (all trimmed by another professional tree service), and a very small, sculpted lawn. I hired JandJ to maintain what was already growing, but to also install a new sprinkler programmer and ensure all the stations operated properly, and, plant some new star jasmine plants in the front yard (to replace 2 plants which had died in the winter). The first sign of trouble occurred when the 2 star jasmines planted by JandJ turned out to be "vines" and not bushes. When I objected to having "vines" planted amongst my jasmine shrubs, I was told, "Well that's the fault of the nursery, which gave us the wrong plants." I wasn't paying the nursery, I paid the additional fees to JandJ for the extra work and having the professionalism of recognizing a vine from a shrub! Apparently they didn't recognize the difference and were not willing to rectify their mistake. The next sign of trouble was when I pointed out that after the wet spring rains, my yards were being over-run by new weeds. I asked them to spray the front yard (no grass just decorative rock) with a ground clear (which I provided) to prevent new weed growth. Jose, (JandJ's crew supervisor) told me that they preferred to do "hand-weeding" instead. However, new weeds continued to be an on-growing problem with their twice a month "service." The other major project I asked JandJ to provide (at my additional expense) was to: 1) check for & replace any broken dripper heads, and; 2) extend new dripper lines to include some new plants I had ordered for a new butterfly garden in my back yard. They did not show up on the agreed-upon weekend, but delayed the work by 2 weeks. Since I wanted to show the workers where I needed additional drippers installed, this was a major inconvenience to me. I had already received the new plants and had to hand-water them to keep them alive during the delay in getting this project done. When the JandJ work crew (and Jose) finally arrived, I explained to Jose what I needed and showed him where the new drippers should go. However, during this time, Jose was so busy taking other phone calls that our discussion was interrupted many times. While the crew began working to install drippers and new irrigational lines to accommodate my new butterfly garden and container plants, Jose left. The crew left with new dripper lines "coiled" above ground to accommodate containers where I had indicated I was planting in-ground plants. The coiled irrigation lines looked AWFUL! The work was NOT done per my needs and instructions. Jose did not bother to take notes or return to ensure that the work I'd requested was done properly. When the invoice came for the irrigation work, I paid approximately half with a written explanation of the need to have the crew back to rectify the work that had been done improperly. Jose came back and ARGRUED about everything....that he'd done the job "properly," giving me "extra irrigation line" to accommodate the containers. I told him that not only had this been done incorrectly, but that I wasn't paying the invoice for the job until the work was done as I wanted....and that the "sprinkler" type heads with which he'd replace my older "dripper-style" heads had, in fact, also been replaced. The "sprinkler" style heads constantly "popped off" because of the water pressure when the water system came on in each section. His crew came back and trimmed off the "extra" coiled irrigation lines everywhere, but did not replace the newer "sprinkler-style" dripper heads. Naturally their invoice was paid, but I still have leaking irrigation lines, and one line without a "sprinkler head" that is leaking every time that section waters. When we went from Fall to Summer watering schedule, I made an appointment to have the sprinkler system 're-programmed." When the sprinklers came on, recently at 2:30 PM instead of AM, I called to request that the programming be corrected. Meanwhile, though I'd paid for July's maintenance, the crew hasn't shown up. Today, I received a letter stating that JandJ was not going to continue their service. While the payment has been rectified, my yards look terrible, and JandJ hasn't provided service this month while I was expecting them. The end result is that I now have a weed-infested lawn; broken dripper irrigation system in the back yard; invasive star jasmine "vines" where there should be nice shrubs growing in my front yard......Oh, yes, and I am back to having to "manually" engage the new sprinkler programmer at 2:30 every morning! People, do yourselves a BIG favor.....don't use JandJ Landscaping as they don't provide quality service....just MAJOR HEADACHES....and you will just end up with more problems than you could ever possibly imagine!
