I had purchased the Angie's List $39 design/consult deal for a master bath remodel in July. When I called (in December) to have him come over to get the procedure started, Luis informed me that he was no longer doing bathroom remodels. I graded "A" because Angie's List did not have an N/A for the overall category. I did not want to rate unsatisfactory when I did not have any work done to judge. I informed Angie's List of his change in policy, and Angie sent me an email with a link to apply for a refund of the $39.00 cost.

No work was done. I am requesting a refund of my $39.00 Big Deal fee from Angie's List.

I got my deal in July and have tried to repeated call to set up an appointment. I have left half a dozen messages. I have called 4 times in just the last month and I never get a call back. My "deal" expires in January- I will chalk it up to a "never again" kind of thing.

We have been planning a bathroom remodel for a while and were pleased to see the Big Deal offer of a consultation with J&L Construction. I read the reviews and everyone who had work done by the company was overjoyed with the results. I purchased the Big Deal on September 19th. Subsequently, two attempted appointments for the consultation fell through, in one case Luis called an hour prior to our appointment and said he was stuck at a job sight and wouldn't be able to make it. In November, I called and left a message on Luis's cellphone asking that he call so we could try again for an appointment. He never returned the call. Finally, on December 10th I sent Luis a text message asking if he would be available for a consultation the week of 16 December. He responding by text informing me that, "I'm not doing that anymore, u can get a refund with Angie's List". I have had a few major remodeling projects done in the homes I have owned. From that, I have learned that timely communication with the contractor is crucial to a successfully completed project. My experience with this Big Deal indicates that communication would be difficult if we hired J&L to do our bathroom remodel. It appears that Luis, as owner/operator, is a victim of his own success. He has more work than he can handle.

I purchased the Bathroom Design Consultation for $55 on Angie's list on November 19th. Typically, providers contact me immediately but after a week, I attempted to call the provider with no results. I waited until the 1st week of December and attempted to contact them through Angie's list communication, still no attempt to me to even give me a status.

Never able to make contact with service provider. Called 5 times and left messages, but never got a return call.

This was for a kitchen design asI am going to remodel my kitchen. II thought the design would also include a bid for the work, which was great. However, when I called him on or about October 17, 2013, Luis said he was very, very business, and asked if Icould call back around Thanksgiving to set up the appointment. That was fine with me. So, on approximately 11/26/2013, I called and spoke to Luis and asked him if he could set up an appointment. He told me that he had closed that part of the business, and that I would have to call Angie's list to get my money back. Thank goodness for Angie's list! When they found out what happened, they IMMEDIATELY processed a refund for me. I WOULD NOT USE THIS PERSON'S BUSINESS FOR ANTHING PERIOD.

J & L Construction said they weren't in business until March when I asked about installing a tile floor Dec. 2, 2013.

He came over and performed the estimate. He then quoted me an extensive amount of money so I did not end up using him for the job. However, he was really nice and professional.

Just design consult. Ok but price to do what was suggested too expensive. |Info. Interesting to have however. If ever do the remodel will try to do some ourselves and hire trades by job.

I called the provider to arrange a time to perform the Big Deal service I had paid for. He told me he was not taking any more outside jobs right now. He suggested that I get a refund from Angie's List.

We were impressed with J & L and expect to have the bathroom remodel done in the future.

They began with a consultation that we purchased through Angie's list at a discount. We met with Luis and he told us how he thought the space could be utilized better.They gave us their design ideas along with good suggestions on what they could do to revamp our bathrooms. They pressed upon us that we should get other bids so we can see the value they provide as compared to other contractor's. I was impressed early on when they spent a good deal of time prepping the area (downstairs in the livingroom, up the stairs, in our loft area and into our master bedroom) and laying plastic and cardboard down so as not to dirty our cream carpet. There were several workers going through our house and I didn't have to worry about damage to our carpet. They cleaned behind themselves everyday they were in our home; taking out the gutted bathtub, cabinets, shower stalls, toilets, etc. to eliminate dirtying and messing our home. George and his team worked diligently and provided high quality workmanship. George takes great pride in his work and ensured all aspects of our project went well. It was well-orchestrated with each specialty area (electrician, tile, carpet, plumber and shower glass doors ) coming along when needed and each were great craftsman in their own right. All workers in our home were professional and respectful of our home when they were working. All the team of workers worked very hard in creating a final product that is beautiful. They were very pleasant and involved us when they needed to communicate issues that arose or asked how we wanted something done. We picked out our cabinets and let them bring us samples on the tiles for the shower, floor and accent tiles. We only have positive comments on J & L Construction. They were detail-oriented in their work and produced a high quality end product with the "new" spa-like bathrooms they created for us. Luis noticed some small issue with the tile that my husband and I hadn't noticed (and probably wouldn't have); he had the worker come back and redo the area. That is why we would highly recommend their services. This was an excellent experience; they exceeded our expectations; my husband and I love our new bathrooms.

Bought an Angie's deal for checking for gas leaks throughout house. Emailed a note to provider about the fireplace. About a week later the provider refused to do the work so no service was scheduled.

Never provided bathroom upgrade plan; tried to upsell a whole house reno to prepare to put on the house on the market. All in direct contradiction to Real Estate Agent recommendations.

He was in a hurry to get out of my home as he had another appointment. The information he gave was worthless as it was not specific at all. The money was just a waste for the coupon and I will definitely not use them again. They were very responsive and he was nice to schedule with as I forgot about the initial appointment and they rescheduled and they did let me know they were running behind on the second attempt.

We were looking for a contractor we could trust and "bond" with and we certainly found that with J & L. Luis was very prompt and friendly from the beginning. He explained how things would progress and he was pretty spot on with one slight exception-not his fault. Raul was right on things-asking if everything was ok and if we wanted anything else.All the sub contractors were friendly and professional as well.They work around your schedule and are in contact via phone with you. They made sure we had all their numbers etc.Luis was very concerned about our satisfaction. Also Luis estimate was pretty much right on for the bathroom remodel. You feel comfortable with him because you can see his confidence. Also we didn't pay anything until ALL work was completed. . We have several other projects and will not hestitate in hiring J & L again. I would give them an A PLUS

I want to cancel this purchase. I redeemed my coupon with another company for a water leak assessment and I am going to have extensive repair to my corroded lines in m2F@@

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. The person who came didn’t seem to be interested in measuring anything or interested in too much input. He just said that it would be about $15,000 for 2 bathrooms to be remodeled. He said that we’ll pick it out at Home Depot and then they’ll put it in. He was not ready to go into any detail and he didn’t want to suggest the design or anything like that. We thought that we can get somebody else who can be more thorough. We anticipated some sort of input and suggestions for design because that was what was in the deal. I could have probably just gone out in the middle of the street and asked anybody how much it would cost to remodel 2 bathrooms. I wasn’t impressed at all. He came out 3 or 4 days after I purchased the deal.

Very busy guy. He seemed to have a price in mind before we provided the details. He wanted us to do all the leg work to save us money. He couldn't guarantee the estimated price would be above or below his estimate. Our job would be done sporadically over a 1 month period. No deal for us.

Fabulous. I would give them my highest recommendation. Luis and George were always responsive and always pleasant. The quality of the work was top-notch, and they had an eye for detail that I greatly appreciated. The project was done in good time, there were holdups but that was solely MY fault, because I hadn't picked out the finishes I wanted prior to contacting them. Some stuff had to be ordered and took a while to come in. The other attribute of this company that makes them worth hiring is their ability to fix problems as they arise. Lots of contractors will come in, do the job, and leave, but if there are any problems or dissatisfaction with the work, they are nowhere to be found. That was NOT the case with Luis and George. The shower tile was installed crookedly, and they had the marble installer remove it and redo it until it was perfect. That is not a small job--it's a lot of extra work, but they didn't bat an eye because they wanted to make sure it was done correctly. That is a huge deal to me, and is a large factor in why I would recommend them so highly. There was also one small issue with personnel. Luis was on it immediately, apologized and made it right. No excuses were offered, only solutions, and again, that impressed me greatly. Luis is ex-military, courteous and disciplined, and it shows.

I cannot in all fairness review this project because I did not get the work done. The price quoted was more than I was prepared to spend at that time. I cannot say whether the price was fair or not because I did not get another estimate. I just postponed the project.

Work was done very well, all professional and done correctly. Cant complain worth every penny spent. Highly recommend J & L will return for future business.

Luis was a great help, did a great job checking my house for mold. Everything came back clear didnt try to scam and claim I needed a service done like other companies. Awesome service, highly recommended.

They did an excellent job. I would highly recommend them. They are very professional and you don't have to pay till after the job is completed. I liked how flexible they are and can work around your schedule. They do great work and I would hire them again.
