Long story, so let me put the bottom line up front: I was initially disappointed, but Aire Serve bent over backwards to make me happy – thank you, an honest company who tries to make it right… God Bless! Background: My 6-year old Comfort-maker, 2.5ton, split, ground-mounted unit has never before had any problems. It is very clean, is located out of the elements, and was last serviced 3 summers ago – prognosis at the time: “In excellent working condition.” Issue: My A/C unit began blowing lukewarm air on Saturday 7/6/2013, and I selected Aire Serve from Angie’s list due to their excellent reviews - figured I can’t go wrong. I immediately called but they were too busy to respond that day (I completely understood, because it has been an exceptionally hot week here in Vegas); the agent suggested that I set an appointment for Sunday morning 7/7/13 - which I did (my technician’s name will be Adam and he’ll be there between 8-10am on Sunday). I woke early on Sunday anticipating an early phone call and visit… By 9:15 I never received the expected call, so I contacted Lindsey at the dispatch office to verify my appointment. She verified that I was on the schedule and Adam would be contacting me shortly (you’re good to go!). 10:30 and no call back – so I once again contacted the office… they said they were investigating. Finally, Adam calls me at 10:45am, said he’s not been feeling well but he’ll be by before 12:00. I asked why he’s coming out when sick; “why don’t you send someone else out?” He said he’ll be fine, just moving slow… 12:10 and still no one here… I called Adam back (frustrated now after wasting my whole morning). He now stated that Casey would be coming out in his place. I asked when and what is his number… Adam said he’ll have Casey call me… 12:20 Casey calls and said he’ll be at my place in 30 minutes. Casey arrived on time (now 3 hrs late) and quickly checked out my unit (thunderstorms were rumbling in the background). Without a freon meter on hand, Casey stated it appeared to be low on R22 Freon; Casey indicated it would cost about $260 to recharge it and $800 to leak test it (If I so desired)… he stated I probably didn’t need the leak test, so I said just to charge it… During the charge (with an upside down Freon can – “liquid charge” as he stated) my compressor started making some weird noises and then drawing a very large (over specifications) amperage before shutting down on its own… He stated, oh… that’s not a good sign… could be you’re compressor is going out (I’m thinking Oh, crap!)… Casey then made a phone call to his supervisor and gave him a few indications and amperage readings. The supervisor relayed that it appeared my system has a Freon blockage somewhere in the line and that the line probably needs to be purged, add some sort of valve and then recharge… Unfortunately, Casey didn’t have a Freon recovery system in his truck (I'm thinking - this is an A/C guy?)… He said it will have to be scheduled for tomorrow with another technician - Argh!!! So, Casey charges me $49 for the fruitless visit, say’s tomorrow’s (early morning 8-10am) visit won’t have a service call-out fee, but it will cost between $525-$683 for the repair job. I then asked if the $49 for today’s visit will be deducted, he said no. With a new appointment set, an estimate in hand, the $49 paid and a still very hot house on another 100+ degree Las Vegas day, Casey departs… Let’s hope tomorrow goes better… Next day, Monday 7/8/13, Chris showed up on time (8:30am). Chris began to investigate the problem and within 45mins made a confident determination that I had no Freon flow through my system, said my compressor appeared to be shot and although running (with the same weird noises as yesterday), it appeared not to be pumping Freon. Anyway, based on my prior issues the day before, Chris (who appeared very pleasant and competent) explained that Air Serve would give me a discounted rate for the compressor replacement and the total would be just under $2,000… Without any other viable options, and a just-planned (unexpected) funeral trip to Vermont that departed the following morning (Tuesday) I approved the work… I later called Jeremy (the office manager I believe) after Chris left to get the required parts. I expressed some angst/concerns, and Jeremy offered to reduce my quoted bill to a more manageable level – thank you Jeremy! Then unfortunately, the saga continued… Chris (who no doubt, with 17+ yrs of experience, is an extremely competent technician) replaced the compressor with a new one, evacuated the system, and recharged it. After powering it on, guess what happened??? Yes, it had the identical, exact same symptoms (and sounds) as my 6-yr old compressor that was just replaced – AND like before, still no Freon flowed thru the system (please draw your own conclusions)… After embarassingly scratching his head and completing a few isolation techniques, Chris came to the determination the flow problem is located somewhere up the attic air handling unit… After about an hour and a few ups and downs the ladder, it turns my unit had a faulty expansion valve which was replaced a short time later… After the valve replacement, my system fired right up, the sound was gone and it churned out nice/cold air - YEAAAA! With all this said I want to highlight a few more observations: Once again, Chris appeared remarkably knowledgeable and competent, was very kind, neat around the house (even wearing booties) and I honestly don’t think I could have gotten better service with anyone else. Chris indicated this “expansion valve issue” was a very uncommon problem that is rarely seen and though I questioned the replacement of my compressor, he stated my old compressor WAS bad (ok, I’m an old Air Force telecommunications engineer, not an HVAC expert, so there is no way I could ever prove him wrong, nor at this point did I even want to try – but I believe my compressor was NOT bad and it was a CYA answer)… The Good news: My AC is fixed and is blowing very cold air, so I can sleep well and depart for my trip to Vermont without any major concerns or anxiety… Additionally, even with the added work of fixing the secondary (or original?) expansion valve problem, the company was true to its word and did not charge me any more than that agreed to by Jeremy earlier in the day… Thank you Chris, thank you Jeremy and thank you Aire Serve… God Bless for 1) getting my cold air flowing again and 2) for keeping your word on costs (a rare thing these days) and making it right!

The lower level air conditioner went out in our house. We called these guys and they came right out. Now it works better than it EVER did. It wasn't cheap but you get what you pay for. I'd rather have quality when it comes to our house.

They installed a new heating and cooling system. The sales rep was very knowledgeable and presented options in an easy to understand fashion. Their price was comparable to other estimates I had received. The installation was done perfectly and the installers were professional and polite. I would use them again.

My rental property's upstairs heater was not working, especially bad in the midst of the recent coldest front that hit Vegas last week (among other states as well). The first vendor that my renter called said that it would require a replacement of the "heat exchange" which would cost a total of $4,000 and that was the reason why the heater cannot stayed on and even scared my renter by saying that the heater would be generating carbon monoxide if turned on (even for the downstairs heater). I went on Angie's List and found Aire service and ask for an "emergency" diagnostic visit, which surprisingly costs the same as the regular visit. I love the fact that they're essentially open 24/7. The technician, Chris, came to the house to troubleshoot the problem. He found similar symptoms but went way way beyond the call of duty to uncover the real root cause. He even climbed up to the tall 2-story house roof in 20+ degree weather to discover that the heater vent cap had fallen into the vent and therefore, did not allow proper circulation and that was the reason why the heater won't stay on. He was patient throughout the whole process and even satisfied my renter's concern with carbon monoxide by measuring it multiple times in different areas of the house. The problem was solved. I cannot express my appreciation for Chris' dedication to the job. He said that has only seen this problem 3 times in his 25 years career and I am very glad that we were sent this experienced technician. Needless to say I will be using this company again if ever a need arises.

They did a seasonal check up and told me there were other problems that would cost $350 and it would be more if I didn't do it "right now". Got a second opinion and got it fixed for $150 for parts AND labor. It's worked great ever since.

The June service Diagnosed 4 concerns. Because I have a home owner policy and this company is not a provider, I called American Home Shield to preform service. 4 concerns were detailed by Aire Serv but only 2 were deemed within the policy coverage. I did not fix the other concerns as the unit is 24 years old. The AC worked well all summer. The winter check shows no problems and I am happy with their tech Adam Thompson. Mr Thompson has worked on my HVAC unit on several occasions in the past 10 years. He is able to assess immediate needs, things that could be fixed or can wait until they break ( to then be covered by home owner warranty ). I appreciate his attention to detail and care while on site.

I got Aire Serv's name from Angie's LIst. I called on Saturday morning and the technician (Adam) came in the afternoon. He confirmed what I suspected, i.e., that the igniter (it receives power and glows to ignite the flowing gas) had broken. Unfortuantely, he did not have the correct part his truck, though he did look to see if one of the igniters he did have would fit my furnace. It would not and, it being Saturday, he said that he couldn't get the part until Monday morning. Monday morning, Adam called to say he had the part and that he'd be out between 1 and 3 to install it. He came at 2:30 and put the igniter in in about an hour. I liked Adam's professional demeanor and the fact that he didn't try to sell me anything other than the igniter. As a result, I inquired about switching my annual maintenance contract from the HVAC company I've been using for several years--and which I felt was always trying to upsell at every opportunity--to Aire Serv. Adam showed me the difference in charges between maintenace contract customers and non-maintenance. That sealed the deal. I signed right then and received the maintenance customer price for this service. Adam then completed the winter inspection of my furnace and I felt reassured that we are as ready for winter as is possible with an 18-year-old unit.

We have used them for regular maintenance. They came out in July and said that the unit was wearing out in the extreme heat. They gave us options of price range for reliability, we went one with a 10 year parts and labor warranty. They took two days, it was a huge job. Jeremy was the manager and he is highly recommended, very personable he will come and see you with a short notice. No hard sales approach, he is also available on a direct line and cell phone. We will continue to use them for our biannual maintenance check up.

Amazing and unexpected customer service +++. Upon reading my initial review, the manager from AireServ called to discuss the low rating. When I explained my displeasure with the charge of $82 for "restore power to the unit" or flipping the switch in the electric box, the manager offered to refund the charge for electric service and then immediately mailed me a refund. The resolution of the problem was swift and easy and made by AireServ in good faith and with no coaxing from anyone on the Angie's List staff. I have changed my ratings and opinion of AireServ to all A++++. Thank you, AireServ.

Called for the BIG Deal the get the A/C checked. House has been a rental and units had not been serviced for several years. When I called them, found out the did heat also and I knew there was a problem there, they offered to do the deal for $49 for the heat also. Was very clean and neat, Inspected the units, found a problem also with the A/C. Gave me the service contract parts pricing if I signed a service contract and also gave me a discount on the contract so the end price was a little less than the standard no contract rates. He did have to order the parts but no problems with the follow up call.

The technician, Adam, was very professional. He installed the new thermostat in a very workmanlike manner. He also answered all our questions and set in the initial settings.

I made an appointment for them to come by. They were supposed to come by in the morning or noon, but they left a message saying that they would not be able to come by until that evening. I assumed they were going to come that evening, but they never did show up. Then after that, I had to call them to reschedule for them to come back. They made some kind of excuse, but they did come. The guy that came was nice. He did everything. I am supposed to have a second visit, but I was not very comfortable with the whole situation. So, I am not going to have them come back for the second visit. There were no other additional charges to the big deal.

Casey arrived during the scheduled time frame. He was professional and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. I let him go about what he needed to do and I did other things about the house (having just taken possession of it 3 days ago). Casey came in from checking the units outside and informed me that a capacitor on the upstairs unit was giving a voltage reading at the lower end of the range where it should be. He told me that it was still working and that it could last for months or it could only last for days. There was no way to know and told me it would be about $150 to replace. I told him to go ahead and replace it as I am well aware that these things will decide to quit on the hottest of days. Casey took care of the capacitor and then checked the units inside. He found them to be in good working order. I paid him for the capacitor and told him that I would see him, as I would be requesting him specifically, in the fall for the heater service. The only reason I am giving a "C" rating is for the fact that the capacitor was marked up almost 500%. I am NOT saying that it wasn't going bad or anything like that. I consider myself somewhat of a handyman and can do a lot of things around the house and or car. Being like this I keep spare parts (plumbing, electrical, A/C, auto, etc...) on hand for when things break down (which is usually late at night or on the weekend). I became aware of the outrageous mark up when I purchased the capacitor, along with some other parts, to have on hand. The capacitor cost me $30 retail. I'm sure service companies get them for even less. Will I still use Aire Serv? Yes, I will. (I do not know how to service an air conditioner or heater...I do know how to change defective or broken parts though)

We were $30 less than the least expensive company he contacted, which by the way all were Angie's List companies.
