They were good. Their staff was very professional. Their staff was very professional, especially their secretary who answers the phone. She was very well spoken.
Description of Work: I used the "Big Deal" that I purchased for the services of Aire Serv Heating & Air Conditioning. They did an A/C tuneup. I paid more than the "Big Deal".

I had some problems with this Angie's List Deal. They had one guy come out and he was supposed to do the winter tune up on my furnace and instead said that I needed to have my entire furnace and air conditioner replaced and all these things were wrong with it. So I held up and called my brother who is a certified HVAC person and talked him through what I had been told. My brother told me what should be included in a standard tune-up and felt I was being given speculative information. And so I called the company back and said that I still felt like the furnace hadn't been serviced and I still wanted that done, so they sent a different person the next day who was better. I still ended up having to pay an additional $250 for some repair work but I felt a little more confident in terms of what he had told me was going on with the system. However, the problems identified on visit #2 did not at all match the problems identified on visit #1. Both techs said my my blower assembly and air ducts were the dirtiest they have ever seen. Their quote was so high I asked the owner of Aire Serve to tell me who they subcontract with for air duct cleaning. He said they only use one company so I called that company myself and had them come give me a quote and it was about half of what Aire Serv Heating & Air Conditioning was going to charge me. I scheduled the air duct cleaning in January 2014 with this other company. The tech told me the dirt in my ducts was average...and by no means "the worst he has ever seen." So despite all the good reviews I've seen for Aire Serve on Angie's List, I did not have a good experience with them. I thought it would be a good package for a year's service on my HVAC units, but they kind of have you at their mercy when they are here because you don't know if they are telling you the truth or exaggerating. In my case I just happened to have a brother that I could call. I definitely felt lied to and I'm still concerned because part of that package was for a whole year of tune-up service, so presumably they are going to come to check my air conditioning system this spring. Naturally, I no longer have a whole lot of confidence in terms of what they are going to tell me.

Technician DAVID arrived on time. He then asked if he could enter the house and look at the thermostat and turn it on. He then asked if it had always made that noise. I asked what noise and he said that of the bearings. He said they were wearing out. The noise was barely audible. I then asked DAVID that if they did go out how much time would it take to resolve the problem. He said it would take approximately 6 hours labor to replace them and would cost approximately $600.00. I then asked DAVID why it would take so long to fix the problem and he said because it would require that long for them to find the problem. I asked him why it would take 6 hours if they already new it was the bearings. He said that they would have to make sure that it was definitelly the bearings and not something else. This did not make sense to me. I then told him I was not interested at this time. He reminded me that the unit is approximatelly 19 years old and I would soon be having problems. He then went outside and turned off the power source at the unit itself. He then took off the face plate to the wiring compartment and plugged in some gauges and moved some wires. He then turned the power source on and told me that the CONDENSER was not turning on and therefore the unit was not working. I stated that this was the FIRST TIME that the unit was not turning on and that I have been in my house going on 8 years. I also stated that I had just within the last two months turned on the unit as the smoke alarm in my house had gone on because of my using my table top cook oven and it had caused some smoke in the house. I told him the unit was working just fine. I stated that it was truly a COINCIDENCE that all this time it was working and now after he messed with the wires it WAS NOT WORKING. David then asked me if I was accusing him of tampering with the unit. I repeated again that it was a COINCIDENCE that it had always turned on and now after he moved wires it was not working. He then suggested that he could install a KICKSTART DEVICE that might help the condenser start working and would cost $144.29. I told him to go ahead and install it as I am not a SPECIALIST on air conditioners and I was at a dis-advantage in that matter. Again he asked if I was accusing him of tampering. He installed the Kickstart and the unit started right on. I told him I would express my sentiments on Angie's List and he said it was my perogative. I paid him and he left. COINCIDENCE.......MAYBE YES....MAYBE NO.....I LEAVE IT UP TO THE READERS TO MAKE THEIR OWN CONCLUCIONS.....
Description of Work: Installed a Kickstart 2-Wire Hard Start Device......$144.29 Was supposed to receive a 20 - Point Air - Conditioning Tune - Up....purchased from Angie's List......$49.00....I might have received maybe a hand full of the 20 points....he never explained what else he was doing...except that of adding some freon.

I ordered the service because it offered 2 units of coolant per A/C unit. However, the tech did not fill either unit because "he couldn't tell how much coolant was being used". Why offer this service if you're not going to actually do it? He did move one of the units away from the house because it was too close and he did answer my questions regarding the status of units and how long they would need to go because replacement / repair. He left an estimate regarding how much $$ would need to be spent on each unit. He also left a quote for A/C "insurance" that we could purchase ahead of time to defray some of the repair costs. I appreciated this. All in all, the service was okay. As with most "deals" on Angie's List, you really need to read the fine print and ask questions in advance to see what you're really getting when you pay your money. They seem to be a good company, but I wouldn't send them to my Mom's house or to a co-worker. Thanks.

The Technician called ahead before arriving to my home. He was professional and friendly. He brought in his ladder and tools and went to the attic to determine the problem. Within 15 minutes he was out and detected that I had several problems wrong with my furnace. He gave me several options the first was replace my entire system heat and air for a cost of approximately $6000.00. My next option was just replace my furnace for a cost of $4000.00 or replace the 3 parts that are damaged for $1800.00. My furnace is 18 years old however my air conditioner is only 2 years old so I couldn't see replacing my furnace and air unit. However that was the one he encouraged. Which of course he would that is the one that makes the most profit. When I asked about replacing the parts the technician didn't encourage that option. After the technician left I called 2 other heating and air companies and I am happy to report that I found someone very professional (the technician automatically put booties on his shoes before entering my house to protect the floor and carpet) who was able to fix my unit, clean the furnace, and offer a yearly maintenance program for under $800.00. He reported that my first diagnosis was not accurate with the problems he detected. People be careful so many companies are out for the Almighty Dollar and not whats best for the customer.

They were fine and they did everything they were supposed to do. They were timely. They came out twice as a part of the deal, once in the summer and once in the winter. They looked at my air conditioning and told me what I already knew. They did what I expected. I had used them years before. I had no problem with them. I didn’t pay anything more than the Big Deal. They were a good company. I am not sure if I would use them again but it has got nothing to do with them or their work.

The service tech arrived and was very polite and professional. Within 5 minutes he diagnosed that the hot surface ignitor was defective and needed changing and had removed it from the furnace. He went back out his truck and brought in a new ignitor and showed me a price quote for the ignitor with installation of $273.49. I looked at the new ignitor and it was basically two wires with a heating element . I asked the tech are you sure about the price. He told me that their company had fixed prices for the part and installation. Well in about 2 minutes he plugged the new ignitor in and the furnace was running. All this time I didn't reveal to the tech that I was a retired, licensed Class A Journeyman electrician and well versed in electronics. I was skeptical about the price of a replacement Carrier hot surface ignitor and so the very next day I went on the internet and almost fell of my chair when I found that I could buy a genuine OEM Carrier hot surface ignitor for less than $20.00. So as two retired Senior citizens on a fixed income we feel that Aire Serv of Las Vegas severly price gouged and took advantage of us with this simple repair.
Description of Work: Being a Angie's List member and we were having a problem with our gas furnace I reviewed the list of furnace repair services listed on Angie's. And being that I didn't know anything about this gas furnace as we recently purchased the house I decided to try Aire Serv of Las Vegas as they had good reviews.

Back in late November I purchased The Silver Plan from Air Serve for a fall and spring tune up for my HVAC unit. My unit is rather old and Air Serve has an excellent rating on Angie's List so I thought it would be a good idea. Their tech came out and performed an inspection on my HVAC. Basically he was on the roof for about 30 minutes checking my system and my thermostat in the house. I thought it was pretty fast for a 30 point inspection. He did show me show photos of where I had some rust and told me my belt was worn (quoted me $128.13 for a new belt, basically a $20.00 dollar part), but most of the time he was trying to up sell me on a new system, telling me that my unit was 25 years old (I already knew that) and that it could break down at any time (again I already know this). The consistent up selling is what really bothered me.

They explained that this was the low season and I would be able to get a break on the cost. The price they quoted included all the labor and parts, which was a relief since it was such a giant purchase. They spent the whole rainiest day of the year so far installing my HVAC system. They were very careful about my covering all of my floors. They cleaned up everything and I could hardly tell they had been in and out of my house all day. The initial visit was on Nov. 19th and I had a new HVAC system on the Nov. 22nd.

The phone receptionist (Kaytie) was very courteous and helpful as far as scheduling was concerned. I scheduled for 1/06/14 and Adam called me 30 minutes ahead to let me know he was on his way. He was both cordial and professional in demeanor and appearance. On 1/6/14 I called Aire Serve for an estimate and description of what could be done with a 20 year old heating system. They arrived promptly explained to us that we needed a new system and called the supervisor to come to the loction. He was there in 30 minutes, He gave us a price which was very reasonable and the work was started and completed on 1/7/14 in approximately 2 - 3 hours. The workers, David and Raol were professional, careful of our property and wore plastic over their shoes when they entered our home. The job was completed in less than 3 hours. Everything was clean when they left. I would recommend them highly to anyone. If we need a new air conditioning system in the future we will definitely call them. They were dressed in work clothes which were clean and they looked like professionals. What a joy to have people like this work in our home.

Long story, so let me put the bottom line up front: I was initially disappointed, but Aire Serve bent over backwards to make me happy – thank you, an honest company who tries to make it right… God Bless! Background: My 6-year old Comfort-maker, 2.5ton, split, ground-mounted unit has never before had any problems. It is very clean, is located out of the elements, and was last serviced 3 summers ago – prognosis at the time: “In excellent working condition.” Issue: My A/C unit began blowing lukewarm air on Saturday 7/6/2013, and I selected Aire Serve from Angie’s list due to their excellent reviews - figured I can’t go wrong. I immediately called but they were too busy to respond that day (I completely understood, because it has been an exceptionally hot week here in Vegas); the agent suggested that I set an appointment for Sunday morning 7/7/13 - which I did (my technician’s name will be Adam and he’ll be there between 8-10am on Sunday). I woke early on Sunday anticipating an early phone call and visit… By 9:15 I never received the expected call, so I contacted Lindsey at the dispatch office to verify my appointment. She verified that I was on the schedule and Adam would be contacting me shortly (you’re good to go!). 10:30 and no call back – so I once again contacted the office… they said they were investigating. Finally, Adam calls me at 10:45am, said he’s not been feeling well but he’ll be by before 12:00. I asked why he’s coming out when sick; “why don’t you send someone else out?” He said he’ll be fine, just moving slow… 12:10 and still no one here… I called Adam back (frustrated now after wasting my whole morning). He now stated that Casey would be coming out in his place. I asked when and what is his number… Adam said he’ll have Casey call me… 12:20 Casey calls and said he’ll be at my place in 30 minutes. Casey arrived on time (now 3 hrs late) and quickly checked out my unit (thunderstorms were rumbling in the background). Without a freon meter on hand, Casey stated it appeared to be low on R22 Freon; Casey indicated it would cost about $260 to recharge it and $800 to leak test it (If I so desired)… he stated I probably didn’t need the leak test, so I said just to charge it… During the charge (with an upside down Freon can – “liquid charge” as he stated) my compressor started making some weird noises and then drawing a very large (over specifications) amperage before shutting down on its own… He stated, oh… that’s not a good sign… could be you’re compressor is going out (I’m thinking Oh, crap!)… Casey then made a phone call to his supervisor and gave him a few indications and amperage readings. The supervisor relayed that it appeared my system has a Freon blockage somewhere in the line and that the line probably needs to be purged, add some sort of valve and then recharge… Unfortunately, Casey didn’t have a Freon recovery system in his truck (I'm thinking - this is an A/C guy?)… He said it will have to be scheduled for tomorrow with another technician - Argh!!! So, Casey charges me $49 for the fruitless visit, say’s tomorrow’s (early morning 8-10am) visit won’t have a service call-out fee, but it will cost between $525-$683 for the repair job. I then asked if the $49 for today’s visit will be deducted, he said no. With a new appointment set, an estimate in hand, the $49 paid and a still very hot house on another 100+ degree Las Vegas day, Casey departs… Let’s hope tomorrow goes better… Next day, Monday 7/8/13, Chris showed up on time (8:30am). Chris began to investigate the problem and within 45mins made a confident determination that I had no Freon flow through my system, said my compressor appeared to be shot and although running (with the same weird noises as yesterday), it appeared not to be pumping Freon. Anyway, based on my prior issues the day before, Chris (who appeared very pleasant and competent) explained that Air Serve would give me a discounted rate for the compressor replacement and the total would be just under $2,000… Without any other viable options, and a just-planned (unexpected) funeral trip to Vermont that departed the following morning (Tuesday) I approved the work… I later called Jeremy (the office manager I believe) after Chris left to get the required parts. I expressed some angst/concerns, and Jeremy offered to reduce my quoted bill to a more manageable level – thank you Jeremy! Then unfortunately, the saga continued… Chris (who no doubt, with 17+ yrs of experience, is an extremely competent technician) replaced the compressor with a new one, evacuated the system, and recharged it. After powering it on, guess what happened??? Yes, it had the identical, exact same symptoms (and sounds) as my 6-yr old compressor that was just replaced – AND like before, still no Freon flowed thru the system (please draw your own conclusions)… After embarassingly scratching his head and completing a few isolation techniques, Chris came to the determination the flow problem is located somewhere up the attic air handling unit… After about an hour and a few ups and downs the ladder, it turns my unit had a faulty expansion valve which was replaced a short time later… After the valve replacement, my system fired right up, the sound was gone and it churned out nice/cold air - YEAAAA! With all this said I want to highlight a few more observations: Once again, Chris appeared remarkably knowledgeable and competent, was very kind, neat around the house (even wearing booties) and I honestly don’t think I could have gotten better service with anyone else. Chris indicated this “expansion valve issue” was a very uncommon problem that is rarely seen and though I questioned the replacement of my compressor, he stated my old compressor WAS bad (ok, I’m an old Air Force telecommunications engineer, not an HVAC expert, so there is no way I could ever prove him wrong, nor at this point did I even want to try – but I believe my compressor was NOT bad and it was a CYA answer)… The Good news: My AC is fixed and is blowing very cold air, so I can sleep well and depart for my trip to Vermont without any major concerns or anxiety… Additionally, even with the added work of fixing the secondary (or original?) expansion valve problem, the company was true to its word and did not charge me any more than that agreed to by Jeremy earlier in the day… Thank you Chris, thank you Jeremy and thank you Aire Serve… God Bless for 1) getting my cold air flowing again and 2) for keeping your word on costs (a rare thing these days) and making it right!
