Barbara was very professional throughout the time she worked with us. I was eight months pregnant and close to giving birth during the holidays. She had a small window of time to complete the job ( my master bath is extremely large) . Barbara and her wonderful team managed to complete the job before our family came to visit. She was around very often and when she wasn't available she would call me back ASAP. She knows the business of renovation very well. She understood my vision and managed to make my master bath the french provincal look I was going for. Thank you Barbara for doing such a beautiful job! Highly recommended!!!!

It went very well. I am pleased with the work. The job cost more and took longer than expected but that's true for every remodel I have ever done:-). The best part of the entire process is that Barbara is an extremely reasonable and fair person. She cares about making her customers happy. It's terrific to find that kind of customer service these days.

I have been absolutely overwhelmed with bids and am having a hard time keeping up after the hollidays. I tried to explain to everyone that the bids are taking so long but I apologize if I did not get back to her. Angie's list can be a blessing but I do all my own bids and a bid as large as hers can take a while to do. .

Barbara was accommodating to our schedules and made the initial discussion and estimate process go smoothly. She provided an estimate within a week, and was able to give us all that we wanted for a very competitive price. The work included new bath tub and separate shower, tile floors, new vanity and counter, and new fixtures. Barbara met with us at the tile center and made the selection process extremely easy. There were a couple of items, like the lights and mirrors, that we chose to purchase on our own. From the time we made our selections to when they started demolition, it was eight weeks. From demolition to substantial completion, it was another four weeks. Her employees did quality work. For the most part, they did clean up after themselves, but on occasion we did clean up some grout and paint. Barbara stands behind her work and has let us know she's available should we need her.

our questions immediately, and also was LOOKING OUT FOR US on price and all matters since we were not there in person. We have built 5 homes over our lifetime and know what problem can develop if u dont visit the job site every day to see what is going on. As I said before we only visited a few times during the entire 6 months and Barb made sure our home was taken care of as if it was her own. Since we have built other homes, we know what should be expected and Barb far exceeded our expectations in her project managing skills, and in her punch list resolution approach. A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE AND SOMEONE WE FEEL WE CAN CALL AT ANYTIME TO COME OUT AND CHECK OUT SOMETHING IN OUR HOME, FOR NEW WORK OR TO CHECK SOMETHING OUT THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED, THATS WHO BARB IS TO US .
Description of Work: Remodeled our entire home which had not been updated for 13 years. We had used property as a rental for the past 13 years and decided we wanted to use as a second home for us . Barb came in with great design and update work, took us around to all vendors so we could select all items we needed for the remodel. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS PROJECT WAS THAT WE WERE GOING TO BE IN CA DURING THE PROJECT SO WE NEEDED TO HIRE SOMEONE we could trust our home to, the project to, understanding we would only see what was going on by photos, and one or two visits during the entire time. We discussed our concerns with Barb and she was always open to make any corrections we needed, and we felt so comfortable leaving our home under Barb's control. She was always available when we needed to speak with her on the project, answered

From start to finish Barbara Turns and Designer Kitchen and Baths was incredible. From the beginning she sat with us to gain all of our ideas and then added several of her own to the list. She accompanied us to the tile and flooring stores. Her crew was always prompt, took their time to do the job perfectly, and cleaned up thoroughly. They showed and discussed with us every item that they were installing. All work was done in a professional, clean and courteous manner. Communication with Barb and the crew was daily and often more frequently. In all the job was perfect. Both my wife and myself have no problem referring Designer Kitchens and Baths and have done so several times already.

I felt we needed to replace our old fiberglass tub because the bottom had cracked a few years ago...we used epoxy to try to seal it and pray we did not have any leaks! We used the tub exclusively as a shower, and there was a very noticeable "give" to the tub when standing in certain spots -not good. However, I was on a limited budget -I was looking to have the tub and surround replaced at a much lower cost than a typical full bathroom remodel. I researched many companies through Angie's List -many that I contacted were simply too busy to take on another job, especially a relatively small one. Barbara came out to take a look and gave us a good quote, including allowances for materials. The only other company I was able to find that could have done the job was unable to match Barbara's quote, so based on that, and her reviews here on Angie's List, we chose Designer Kitchen & Bath. Barbara did let us know from the beginning that her and her company were working a lot of jobs at the time and that it might take a while before construction could begin. I was fine with that -I just expressed that once work began and the tub was removed that I wanted to then have it done as quickly as possible, as it was the only bathroom in our occupied condo. Barbara was very understanding and accommodating of this, to the extent possible. Barbara met us at a tile store and helped us make up our minds about tile design (which, in retrospect, we needed help with), and the tile was ordered. When it was time to begin demolition, a two-man team did the job -one was quite experienced, while the other was being trained. They seemed to do a good job. The tile and grout were done by a third person. The total time from the demolition and removal of the old tub until substantial completion (defined for us as the ability to use our shower / tub) was about one and a half weeks. Most of this time seemed unavoidable, due to curing, etc that was needed. We were not without a toilet overnight on any occasion, which we were very grateful for. However, I feel at least a day or two could have been saved through better coordination. Barbara was great, and I would definitely work with her again, but at times, it was obvious she was stretched. Barbara would get back to my calls quickly, and she called me many times as well, so her responsiveness was great. However, it felt like at times she was unsure of the schedule for the primary bathroom worker (George) and the tile guy -there were some coordination issues with getting them here, and in some cases, the workers' account of what they would be doing or how much time it would take for something to cure was different than Barbara's. Admittedly, this was not made easier by the work/school schedule of my wife and I, so my criticism here is minimal. I am grateful that Barbara was able to work us into her schedule, especially for the price. About a week after we thought the job was completed, I began noticing substantial cracks in the grout on the bathroom floor -so much so I was able to remove pieces of grout easily by hand. I notified Barbara, and of course she had the grout guy come back. Barbara mentioned that sometimes this is the result of shifting, and I believe it may also have been implied that perhaps he did not use the right type of grout. He redid the grout along the axis where the cracking appeared, as well as patched a few spots in the tub surround. I was a little concerned -what if the grout cracks elsewhere on the floor or in other parts of the tub surround? -but Barbara reassured me that she would have someone come back to fix it, even if it was six months later. Barbara's was very trustworthy the entire time, so I felt comfortable. It has now been about a month since the job was completed and payment was made, and we have not seen any other cracking in the grout. The bathroom looks great -no cracked tub! -the nicest thing in an otherwise unremarkable condo. I would recommend Designer Kitchen & Bath and Barbara to others. I truly appreciate Barbara's integrity and great prices.
Description of Work: This job included the following tasks: 1) Demolition and removal of old, cracked bathtub and accompanying fiberglass surround. 2) Installation of new bathtub and tile to replace (and expand footprint of) old fiberglass surround 3) Removal of old and installation of new tile on bathroom floor (same tile as used on tub surround) 4) Removal of old and installation of new toilet This involved the only bathroom in an occupied one bedroom, one bathroom condo (apartment conversion -constructed 1990).

When I called to get an estimate she was very prompt to come over and take all the information she would need in order to get a bid to me. Which she did in a prompt manner and set up an appointment to discuss what her bid was and how it would be performed. I then told her I was getting another bid and as I had some questions about what I would like to have done if it were possible and she totally understood and had me do that with the understanding I would contact her and discuss the differences so she could either bow out or give me an alternative. As it was I ended up not doing any bathroom remodeling and she was very understanding with all the circumstances.
Description of Work: Barbara was great to work with and I appreciate all her efforts in order to get my business but I then decided I could not at this time, have the bathroom remodeled, due to other circumstances and she was very understanding with my decision. If I ever needed to get an estimate again I would not hesitate to call her.

Designer Kitchens & Baths and Barbara Turns was outstanding in every respect. From the prompt response to my first inquiry, the professional and accurate estimate, the daily work schedule to the finished product I could not have been more satisfied. So professional was Barbara in our first meeting that I did not even want to entertain a second bid. A few of the more noteworthy aspects of what I really liked about this company: 1. Hiring Barbara to do remodeling also includes her expert interior design sense which we have none. She was able to provide excellent ideas and options for every thing we wanted to accomplish. There was absolutely no high-pressure salesmanship. She would provide both cost saving options as well as upgrade ideas. 2. Barbara takes her clients shopping! She took us to a couple tile and counter top companies providing the pros and cons of almost every decision from the style of new facets to the complexities of granite counter tops. This greatly reduced the stress of having to make possible costly mistakes based on our own ignorance. 3. Her tile team was the best that I could possibly imagine. I know little about tiling; but, I can recognize people that know there craft. Every detail was accomplished professionally with no shortcuts taken. They worked hard and fast and always showed up on time. The finished product looked great. 4. Her teams made every effort to keep their work areas clean and worked extra hard to prevent any damage or soiling to our house when moving between their trucks or outside work areas and our upstairs bathroom. 5. Even after-job touch up items were done with with precision. For example, a couple small dry wall repairs were done over and over until the work looked perfect. While I would have settled for the first attempt, it was not good enough for her team member. Save yourself a lot of stress and worry and go with Designer Kitchens & Baths!

The installation process went smoothly in a timely manner. Each segment of the process was handled by a professional in that field who was experienced, courteous, and willing to make minor adjustments to insure we were more than satisfied with the final product. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we were happy with all aspects of our new kitchen. We would highly recommend Designer Kitchen and Bath to anyone wanting a beautiful, well designed kitchen.
Description of Work: When we contacted Barbara Turns from Designer Kitchen and Bath, we stated we were interested in refacing our cabinets. She said that she could do the work but could also put in new cabinets and countertops within our budget. When she came to our house, she brought door samples and took measurements. We discussed what we wanted, and most importantly, what we didn't want. She listened and made several suggestions to improve the current layout. A few days later, Barbara returned with her computer to show us how the kitchen would look with new cabinets and countertops, as well as the final cost of remodeling the kitchen with the improvements. Her suggestions gave us added space and convenience. We felt the improved version was well worth the small added cost because the total price was more than reasonable.

Having just relocated to Las Vegas from the East Coast, we used Angie's list to identify possible trades that we needed to remodel a home we had just purchased. We selected Barbara becasuae of her no-nonsence approach to the project. We told her what we wanted, that we did not want contractor grade finishes nor did we want to go over-the-top with expensive custom finishes. Barbara provided an estimate of what the cost would be and informed us that if we picked items less expensive that she would credit us and if we selected more expensive items, we would pay the difference. What we especially liked was the fact that she did not have add-on charges for parts and we only paid her cost plus labor which we thought was very fair. As you would expect, the initial scope of the project changed and Barbara was very patient with us in providing new estimates for the additional work that included removing all soffets in the home and installation of custom bookcases and crown moulding throughout. Barbara provides a "lead" individual who oversee's the project and Danny was simply fabulous. He performed all the framing, drywall, electrica, HVACl and plumbing required for the job, is trustworthy and pleasent to work with. Danny worked well coordinating with other "outside contractors" that we hired to perform additional work. Barbara's tile contractors were nothing short of amazing. They took their time, did exactly what we had requested, were impeccable in that we could not find any fault with the quality of their work, it was simply beautiful. Jeff, her cabinet person and finish carpenter was also nothing short of amazing. The painters did an outstanding job with the taping and mudding required to make the walls look like nothing ever happened. I am not going to lie and say everything was just perfect but when you take on a project the size of what we did, one must expect some frustration and while we did have some, to Barbara's credit, when we expressed dissatisfaction, she was positive and proactive which is all you can ask for. She has lived up to her promise of staying engaged now that the project is almost complete and we are now living in our home. She is working diligently with us to complete our punch list and has remined engaged and am confident she will honor her 5-year warranty on work performed. We love our home more because of her work with us. Just remember that home remodeling is not something for the faint of heart to take on but having Barbara on your side, helps make it work out well.

I DONT REMEMBER EVERY LITTLE DETAIL, I THINK THERE WERE A FEW DELAYS SO IT DID RUN OVER TIME THAT I WAS TOLD, BUT I WAS SO EXCITED TO HAVE THE BATHROOM REMODELED...i WAS PATIENT WITH IT ALL. THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH MY CONCRETE BEING STAINED(where they dumped all the debris from the old bathroom and where they cut tile.......,,,AND IT WASNT THERE BEFORE THE JOB STARTED, BUT AS MOST CONTRACTORS WILL DO, THEY SAID THEY DIDNT DO IT AND BEING UNDER CANCER TREATMENT I WASNT IN THE MOOD TO DUKE IT OUT AND LET IT SLIDE. THE MIRRORS BOTHER ME SO MUCH I PLAN TO HAVE SOMEONE COME OUT, REMOVE AND GET REPLACED WITH BEVELED MIRRORS WITH ESPRESSO FRAMING. but it gave me hesitation to call them again, now that I am having my kitchen redone...and did go with someone else. most of my comments are above.
Description of Work: Master Bathroom was completely gutted........and boy did it need it. Home was bought in 2003 and those basic white color Bathrooms are just plain ugly and the Jucuzzi Tub sat so high that it was dangerous to get in and out of it.Originally my budget was 10,000 but after near completion, the vanity now looked ugly ,so Barbara showed me how they would put in Espresso Cabinets, take down the big ole huge mirror, remove medicine cabinets and put in granite slab with new undermount sinks. The Bathroom Renovation was now $15,000.00.......Walk-In shower with bench, awesome, deluxe tile accents(I picked out). I felt they cut corners when it came to what I wanted for mirrors over the sinks........I wanted built in medicine cabinet above each sink and framed in espresso color also, but I was told the cost would jump up siginificantly........I really dont understand why not alittle more, understand but I felt , and still feel that Contractors give you cheap grade fixtures and mirrors just to save money on the deal for themselves.I would of even settled for just beveled mirror with Espresso Frames. I get many comments on how beautiful the master bathroom is.........and I love that..........but I still feel I overpaid for the Bathroom of that size. I already had new light fixtures, so those were included either. 2 Things that really annoyed me...........Their lead worker,,,,,,,everyday he came, first thing he asked was to use the Bathroom. I dont believe Contractors should expect homeowners to have to provide Restroom Facilities for their workers. Also, the persons who textured the potty room(enclosed from main bath area) did a horrible job, and paint job was lousy......Barbara's people had to come and redo. I know she will make a comment on why this was so late, but I never new her company was on Angie's List until I started to look for a company to redo my kitchen..........

I remember Member well. I am so glad she is doing better. This job did take place close to 4 years ago If she would like to call me I would be more than happy to address any issues with quality of fixtures. I never cut corners for my benefit. I use items homeowners choose themselves. I have returned to customers homes as many as 6 years later to make repairs to items that have failed. Her bathroom did turn out beautiful and even though she did not use me to do the kitchen I am glad she still likes the bathroom. This job happened almost 4 years ago and I know my crews have gotten better and better over the years If she wants to call me, I would be happy to address any items she wants looked at. I even have custom mirror frames now that are very reasonable and I would be happy to show them to her. I would love the opportunity Barbara

I needed a complete remodel done on my kitchen, master bedroom/bathroom, floors, fireplace, etc. I am not familiar with kitchen/bathroom design and needed a quality contractor to be able to work with an interior decorator that I had hired to foresee the interior design of the house. I met with several contractors, and hired Barbara to work on the house with my designers based on their initial interactions. I made sure my designers understood the type of style I desired, and then basically just turned them loose and let them work with Barbara on the details. I'm a firm believer in letting the experts do their thing, once they understand what kind of style you're going for. There was a great deal of money involved and I was getting worried, as there was a 3-4 week gap where not much work could be done while we waited for the materials to come in. But once the materials were in, things happened very quickly. Barbara's workers were all great, and I had no problems with them at all. In a project as big as this one, I knew that some issues would arise, but the ones that did were minor and quickly ironed it. I could not be more pleased at how the kitchen, floors and master bedroom/bathroom turned out. I had told myself not to expect it to turn out exactly how I had envisioned it, because that's always a quick way to end up being disappointed, but it's everything I had imagined it would be and more. I'm very happy with the work done. Thanks Barbara!

Overall the remodel went fairly well. From the begining we assumed that communicaiton, oversight and attention to detail would be of the ustmost importance. Barbara's time and attention seemed always limited. She obviously had multiple jobs in progress. It was common for our meetings to be inturrupted frequently by phone calls that she promptly answered or her needing to attend another appointment. Attention to detail was not always acceptable. A bit of advice: You will get a good job as long as you constantly review the work to be done and inspect the results frequently. In the end I created a punch list to assure proper completion of the remodel. The finished job looks great and I'm happy it is done. The initial demolition went as planned. Tile selection was resolved by our searching for and purchasing the tile we wanted. During the initial installation of the tub it was found that the floor was uneven; Barbara was unsure how to proceed. The tile installers were consulted, an extra fee paid and the floor was leveled and the tub set. During the setting of the tub, wood was used to shim beneath the tub when the manufacturers instructions clearly called for steel shims. After pointing this out and insisting the job be done correctly the shimming was done with steel I provided. The plumbing connection for the tub required penetration of the slab and I discovered that the penetration was left open after the connection. Since there are ants in my neighborhood that tend to invade through any convenient slab opening I insisted that the opening be sealed which was finally done. During the opening of an interior wall the dry wall on the opposite side was pentrated in a few places which we noted and the holes were fixed and repainted. There were some minor issues with the main cabinet installation that were noted and repaired. The underside of a cabinet above the toilet was left unfinished and after we purchased a piece of matching veneer skin and indicated how we wanted it installed the fix was completed. We required the lighting to penetrate the mirror and were at first told this was not possible but after showing Barbara the very same feature in our master bath the lighting was installed through the mirror. Installation and setting of the counters was a dream come true. it wa such a good job that we had the same counter top set in one other bathroom as well. A hole was punched in the back side of the bathroom door during remodeling. There was reluctance on the part of the contractor to buying a new door and in order to move the work along to completion we settled on a patch. We plan to replace the door in future.
Description of Work: Remodeling of guest bathroom to include the following: new floor tile, new cabinets, new mirror, new tile, new tub, new lighting, new sinks, new plumbing, insulation, floor leveling, and painting. We were very particular about what we wanted and there was some resistance to certain requirements we knew were possible. The above price does not include materials and fixtures we purchased directly as a part of the remodel.

Barbara, the owner, was a pleasure to work with. She did a great job suggesting layouts for the new renovationthat would optimise the awailable space. Additionally she suggested color and texture combinations of the granite, tile, tub and shower enclosures that would work perfectly with the existing flooring and cabinetry. She took us to numerous wholesale material suppliers to pick out granite , tiles, fixtures and enclosures. She advised us on costs versus quality issues to assure we were getting the best bang for the buck. The demolition and installation went very well. In one instance a supplier sent hardware with an incorrect finish but it resulted in a very minor delay. The tile installers did a beautiful job with the shower and tub decking. All in all the work was done very well, turned out beautifully, and we believe we got great value for the cost.

I interviewed seven people. She came right on time and her estimate was in line with everyone else. She provided me a list of people she’d done work for before and I contacted those people. They only had two down days during the project. They were great. It was incredible considering it was such a big job. The people she has running the parts of her job like construction were always on time. There were several sub-contractors involved and they were fabulous. She had a little bit of trouble with scheduling because she had a lot of jobs going on but she was great. They were so good about cleaning up. She was very good about giving suggestions and if I asked her how something looked, she’d tell me. Because I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do, she was able to guide me. My expectations were exceeded. I will use her again for sure. Any time you work with this size job, there can be some frustrations but I was very pleased.
Description of Work: I used Designer Kitchens and Bath. They were here for seven weeks. They completely demolished my bathroom and rebuilt it. They also ripped up the carpet in my bedroom and extended the tile.

It exceeded my very high standards the job came out execelent in both workmanship, appearance and quality of workmanship.I did not see any "cutting of corners' where the work would not be seen when finished. the integrity of the crew working in my home was of the highest possable Ms. Alison BackersJ G Electronics.
Description of Work: The contractor removed the existing shower stall and installed a new tub I purchased. The tub was larger than the existing opening so an modification of the master bath was made. the walls and floor were tiled and all new fixtures and cabnets were installed. I purchased the fixtures on line and when they tried to install the hand held shower the parts did not screw together. Barbara and her crew took care of dealing with the online company problem and after several attempts ( problems with Newport Brass not knowing how to correct the problem) the correct part was sent and installed. The initial installation was done in a very timely manor and we were able to use the tub until the correct part arrived. I have been in the low voltage electrical install and service industry for over 50 years and have seen good and bad work I could not be happier with the job and will be calling on Barbara and her crew for my next construction job. They were flexible to work with. We changed the plans many times going from a shower with walls and small windows to a glass walled shower. The entire process went over budget which was partially my fault because I did change the original plans and insisted on a certain brand of faucet and plumbing. They said that I should consider changing my floor tile so I could get a better match for the shower tile which I did and was happy with the result. There was one problem with installing the wrong color granite. It was the right pattern, but wrong color, which they quickly fixed to my satisfaction and by absorbing the cost. It was expensive, (but you get what you pay for), in the end I was very happy with the work done.
Description of Work: Completed renovation of one bathroom and a partial renovation of a second bathroom In the complete renovation they took out the old shower and tub and put in a walk-in shower, new floor tile a granite counter top, new cupboard, sinks and faucets. In the partial renovation they put in a new countertop, sink and faucets.

This was the second time we've used Designer Kitchen and Bath, and again we were very pleased with the results. We spoke with Barbara a few weeks in advance because our timeline wasn't restrictive and we were willing to wait for a few weeks for materials to arrive. We picked out tile with Barabara and eventually went with her recommendation for fixtures as well. We had the same type of toilet installed as in the previous bathroom remodel. Also, Barbara accompanied us to a couple different granite stores to help pick out a good sink countertop. The countertop ended up being the only hiccup during the process, but honestly, we ended up with a countertop we were happier with anyway. After we had picked it out by matching it with the existing cabinets and the new tile, the supplier unfortunately had it stolen from his warehouse. We went back down to the warehouse within a week and the supplier graciously gave us a different, higher-quality piece at the same price for our troubles. It ended up looking even better than the first piece! All of the demo and installation went very smoothly. It's been a few months since the job, but I seem to recall it only taking about 5-7 working days (some of the guys come on Saturday). Great quality of work.
Description of Work: Upstairs guest bathroom was nearly gutted (everything except the cabinets) and refurbished with a granite sink countertop, tile floor and tub surround, new tub/sink/plumbing/fixtures and toilet. Some minor drywall repair/texturing was completed at the end to patch up a few small holes.

The couple is great people and it is so much fun working with homeowners who appreciate the hard work the workers put in to make their bathroom or kitchen something that they will love to use for years to come. Thanks Brian, looking forward to the master bathroom.
