Initially our experience with the company was very positive and we found Patti Ann and Theresa to be very helpful in the planning phase. The company even sent out a crew the day before our move to assess the site and confirm the scale of the move. While on site the workmen boxed our televisions and artwork at our request. We self-packed all of our other possessions and these were ready to move and organized in the foyer for transfer to the truck the next day. Up to this point, everything had gone well with our move and our relationship to Capitol North American. However, things took a bad turn the next day when the moving van and moving crew arrived. Firstly, it was immediately apparent that there was not enough room on the truck. Multiple crew members pulled me aside and told me so. When I inquired as to when an additional truck would arrive, they referred me to the driver. The driver, Alex, acknowledged that he had been under-quoted the space required for our move -- but stated that he would be able to fit everything regardless. So, he and the crew proceeded to dismantle every piece of furniture we had down to core components. To be clear, I don't mean that they did the obvious things like taking legs off of tables...I mean that they took the legs, then the brackets, them the mechanics, etc...again, core components. They did this with everything. This was not ikea-style build-at-home furniture. Our furniture was not built to be taken apart -- we later discovered they had even disconnected joints that had been GLUED together during manufacturing. Each time we raised concern we were told 1) this is the normal process of moving and they do it all the time without harm to any furniture, and 2) that they were carefully cataloging all of the items and any pre-move damage so that we could easily be reimbursed for any damage that might ultimately come from the process. Once everything was broken down into these core components, it was shoved, crammed, strapped, and otherwise forced into whatever space or gap could be manipulated (even if that space was incompatible with the shape or size of the item being mangled into it). Although the movers had initially been careful to keep items organized and to heed instructions on boxes (like, "this end up" or "fragile"), as the day went on and space got more scarce, these precautions were abandoned. Boxes were crammed any way possible without regard to contents or instructions. We even halted one of the workmen from ROLLING one of our dressers down the hall and onto the stairway (that is, flipping it end over end rather than finding another crew member to carry it with him). Over and over We expressed our concerns to the driver and repeatedly requested another truck to come but always we were told that this was normal and all would be fine and all would be restored. We were told the van loading would take less than 4 hours as our things were already packed prior to the van's arrival and the home size was modest (approx 2100 square feet, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom). Ultimately this process of deconstruction and forcing took over 12 hours! During this time we had no safe/quiet place where my wife could nurse our newborn baby or where we could nap our 2-year old toddler. The whole family was exhausted and beyond stressed by the time the moving van finally pulled away at nearly 10pm that night. Upon receiving and unloading our possessions in Seattle the reality of the damage became apparent. Even the 3rd party moving crew (hired by Capitol North American to help the driver unload the truck) expressed to us their flabbergasted shock at the damage and disorganization of our possessions upon offload. The end result is that EVERY piece of our furniture has damage to it including dents, abrasions, cracks, bent metal, broken glass, missing parts, etc. Many of our boxed possessions also suffered damage due to the boxes being crushed into small spaces, or "fragile" stickers and similar being wholly ignored. The damage inflicted to our property was a direct result of systematic negligence. After assessing the damages, we promptly filed a claim with Capitol North American. The company admits fault in causing these damages, but despite THOUSANDS in damages, the total compensation offered to us is under $400!!! The company acted negligently. My neighbors saw it, my family saw it, the 3rd party moving crew saw it, and the damage inflicted on my possessions is testament to it. Despite a good start, this experience was absolutely horrible. Avoid this company!!!!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! What a nightmare! The packers show up and I think they are doing a good job. Things are so hectic I'm unable to police each individual packer. Next day they show up with 2 small trucks. I'm concerned because I have a 4 bdrm house, have moved multiple times and I ALWAYS need a large truck. Driver/Loader tells me both trucks will most likely show up on different days so they are packed according to importance with 1st truck to deliver on Monday. Monday - No call from driver until late evening saying he'll be there the next day. Then he asks me how far is it to Phoenix! What?! He's the driver! Tuesday - Driver shows up in the morning with one large truck (uh oh) and no helpers. This just keeps getting worse and worse. The driver starts unloading stuff by himself (not good). Numbers are missing on furniture or mis-numbered (my snow skis had the tag from my baby grand) or have two numbers. The helpers finally show up around noon (from a different company) and are on a mission to unload this truck in record time. Things are scratched, chipped, dented (my washer & dryer for starters), broken (at least they gave me all the pieces!), bent and any other bad thing that could happen to your furniture. They didn't even take out the removable shelves in the buffet (which I can tell ended up on it's side) or any of the Armoire's. I can only think of three things that made it here unscathed. The two things we had crated and the baby grand, which I refused to watch them unload and my husband told me later they almost dropped it! Next, the Unpackers show up. Now, these guys were careful unwrapping (they are from a different branch of No. American) but the nightmare continued with boxes marked wrong, garage & household items in the same box. If it was of soft metal, it was bent (shoe rack, paper towel holder, candle holder just to name a few). Even the unpackers were shaking their heads at things. As I watched item after item being unwrapped the disregard for other people's belongings was glaringly apparent. Some of the things you could tell they just dumped on some paper and slapped some tape around it. The saga continues as my husband and I put things away. I will repeat myself here.... DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! UPDATE! As I am preparing to make my damage claim I am going through the paperwork and discovering the packers had listed things as stained (it's the pattern weave), scratched and/or chipped that do not even exist, an Armoire with "mechanical condition unknown" and a clock "missing glass on both sides" (they were packed seperately by them!) . Thank goodness we took out the No Deductible/Full Replacement Value Insurance.

This move was a complete nightmare from beginning to end. First they underestimated the size of the load, and tried to cram everything into one truck. This caused damage to over one third of our property. Some of these things were irreplaceable valuables. Our furniture did not fair much better. Then they parked the truck, and said the Las Vegas location was responsible for unloading, and left. No one showed up from the Las Vegas location though, and we had to unload it ourselves. We have taken legal action against them to get compensated for this disaster.

North American Van Lines did a great job moving our property. They packed everything into the truck in one day, moved it the next day, and unloaded it the day after that. It took three days total for the move. They put everything in the exact areas of the rooms, which we requested. They were very helpful and we did not have any damages or missing items at all.

North American Van Lines did a terrible job for me. In fact they got lost on the way to my home. I did have a number of items come up missing and I am not sure if they stole it. Some of my furniture was broken and they only compensated me for two hundred dollars, which does not even come close to some of the things that had sentimental value.

I am very pleased with North American. Nothing had been damaged and the people were very polite as well. The entire move was very cheap and they even refunded me $1000 after arriving at the new destination. I am very pleased all the way around. For such a long distance move, it was such a huge success. Everything worked out properly and I am quite pleased. I would hire them again if such a move were ever planned.

North American Van Lines were highly recommended. I checked on them before using them. They did an excellent job on our move. They packed everything well and stored it for us. The storage was included in the cost. They only broke one dish and they ended up charging us less than the initial quote.

They did an excellent job transporting all of our property on such a long move. They were professional, and only damaged one item. The refrigerator was slightly dented, but it was not serious. Their one fault was that they were two days late, which caused some inconvenience for us, but overall, the move went well. If we had to do it again we would re-hire them.

Capitol North American was very reliable and trustworthy. They followed our instructions well and we had them take everything to our son's storage and then we moved it from there. There was no extra or hidden charge when we finished which we appreciated. They actually charged less than the estimate that they had quoted us. We did not have any major damage and nothing was missing.
