Response from Big Shot Computer and Video Services
[removed member name] Hmm...You gave me a 'B' rating and would not use my service again? Let's hear the OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY please! As I recall I made two trips to your house clear across town. The first time I got there your computer was a complete mess and so old and slow to the point where it took me an UNGODLY amount of time just to download drivers to install a new Brother printer you had. You also had me call Brother and ask them some questions that you were unable to verbalize to a support person. You asked, and I did...no questions asked. On top of that I noticed that the cheap speakers that were built in to your screen were not working. When I was done getting your printer working you showed me your 5-disk DVD changer hooked to your TV and told me it was not working properly also Even though this was DEFINITELY NOT a computer issue, I offered to assist you. I asked if I could see its remote control which you HAD NO CLUE where it was and then when I asked to see the instruction manual you also HAD NO CLUE WHERE THAT WAS TOO! At the end of my first visit here was the summary situation: Your new printer was now installed and running just fine, but your built-in-to-the-monitor computer speakers were shot and not working at all and you had a DVD player that was not working properly (according to you) and you wanted me to fix, re-wire it, and tell you how to use it, with of course, NO remote control unit for it and no instructions either. How did I handle this situation? What did I do? Did I say "this is not part of my computer service?" Not quite! I offered to see if I can locate a replacement for your DVD player's remote control unit. After quite a bit of online searching at home I finally located the exact remote control unit on Amazon and I purchased it for you out of my OWN pocket. What ELSE did I do? I went to the manufacturer's web site and located a PDF instruction document for the DVD player in question. I downloaded it an printed it out for you in a nice big typeface so your aging eyes could easily read it. What else did I do for you? I went to a local Office Max store and purchased for you some inexpensive but very nice speakers to replace the built-in speakers on your monitor which were not working. Once again, I made this purchase OUT OF MY OWN POCKET, assuming you were going to pay me! You did request me to do this, don't forget! How did this whole thing then end up? I came back to see you after the remote control unit came all the way to me from overseas. I then proceeded to install your new speakers and to get your new remote control unit working on your DVD player. I then showed you how do do the things you were asking me about it. There was actually nothing wrong with this unit - you just had NO CLUE on how to shuffle multiple DVDs in and out of it. I took the time to read and understand the newly printed out manual that I brought over for you and then took the time to explain all your questions to you about the unit. The unit was working just fine and I think you actually understood how to use the remote control, thanks to my patience with you. I did an EXCELLENT job for you, regardless of your rating. How did you reward me? Ha ha - this is the best part, readers! You gave me a check for my services and reimbursement for the out-of-pocket expenses that I incurred. The only problem was that you used up the money that was in your checking account by the next day and when I went to cash the check, it had BOUNCED! You gave me a check with no money to COVER IT! That was pretty despicable, I'd say. When I told you about it, you wanted to make me drive all the way back over to your place to get another check and you never even offered to pay the service charges I incurred that bank dinged me for having a bounced check. I've met really excellent people through my exposures on Angie's List but you are the lone exception. Until you came along I had ALL A's from everybody I've ever dealt with. One thing you probably did not realize is that evaluation is a TWO-WAY street and you evaluate to a flat-out 'F' as a person in my eyes. To all readers of this, this rendition is EXACTLY as things occurred and there is not ONE BIT of fabrication or embellishment in my version. I'm a very nice person and do excellent work which I take a lot of pride in. This lady had an ax to grind for some unknown reason which I'll never understand, but I feel better for getting my side of the story out there. One final point - she finally did put in some money to the bank to cover the check which bounced but she never did offer to cover the bank charges for the bounced check. To any other Angie's List businesses, be forewarned if you consider doing business with this lady. Syd Rabin • Big Shot Computer Service • Las Vegas, NV • 702.501.9803
