Our unit stopped cooling and we called a technician from Alaskan Heating and Air Conditioning. The original unit was installed in 2003. Robert Hampton was the technician that came to our house and explained what was wrong with the original unit; he showed us the amount of "amps" the older unit was pulling and that the unit had a lot of "rust" and the Freon had leaked out. Robert Hampton went over the options of what we could do; from repairing the unit to different models that could be installed to replace the old unit. Mr. Hampton, the technician, was very honest and answered every question. He gave us a quote for replacing the older unit with a new one. I checked with one other service company that our neighbor used and Alaskan Air provided more support with the replacement of our unit. They provide the yearly checkup and maintenance for the life of the warranty at no charge which the other quote did not provide for the life of warranty. They installed the unit the same day that I called them to do the work. They arrived at 12:30 PM and were finished at 3:30 PM. They had to go into the attic and had to take the trim apart from the attic entrance in order to get the new unit into the attic. Provided in the contract was having Southwest Drywall come in and put back the trim around the entrance to the attic; they also painted the trim to the attic and painted and put texture on the wood covering the entrance to the attic; no charge. They put plastic on the carpet and covered the clothing in plastic because the entrance to the attic was in the closet. You could not tell they had even been there to replace the unit; so clean. The owner of the business was on site to help with the installation. Everyone was very polite and not one of the crew used foul language during the installation. They apply for the permits. They checked the unit after installation to make sure everything was working. Because the house is so air right; we have to have the electrical circuits to allow the unit to draw in outside area for our safety; this was working. I had questions after the installation; the lady from Alaskan Air was very polite and found out the information I was asking and called me back. Alaskan Air bought out another company and stood behind the maintenance agreements of the company they bought out. They could have tried to get out of the old maintenance agreements; but they stood behind the old maintenance agreements but did not receive compensation from the homeowners for standing behind the old maintenance agreements.
Description of Work: Replaced our heating and cooling unit; inside the attic equipment and outside equipment.

It went well although he said my heater blower was very dusty and I should have asked him to clean it but got sidetracked. I think their prices are high on other work I asked about like the duct cleaning they want $500.00 and that's high. They gave me estimates on a new heater and said I need a blower motor. I have a home warranty since I just moved in so I'll wait for now. I do want to get my ducts cleaned but I want to compare other prices.

Dear [Member Name Removed], Thank you for your review! When we perform a duct cleaning we do clean out the blower wheel and the entire system. Be careful with companies who perform duct cleanings for a low price, they will come out but you will probably still have dirty ducts when they leave. It takes a two man crew several hours to perform a proper duct cleaning which should also include sanitation and leak checking. (We include both with our service) Please call our office with any questions or comments and we would be happy to give you some additional points to consider when choosing a contractor that will do the job the right way. Sincerely, Alaskan Heating & Air Conditioning

Didn't receive any kind of reminder for the second service so had to to track/remember myself. On the second service, the service provided pulled the "your contactor's in need of replacement" trick; I declined the $200 suggested charge. I'll be searching for a provider whose markup on parts like contactors is less usury and who doesn't automatically start replacing parts before it's truly needed.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review of our company. I would like to cover a couple of the areas that you expressed concern for you and our other customers and potential customers. Firstly, we process thousands of phone calls per season to complete our service calls. These calls are important to us and we have every desire to service our customers. All of our calls are recorded for training and to assure the highest level of customer service. In some cases we make calls over an entire season in hopes of connecting with our customers and finding a way to work with their busy schedules. I did listen to the calls that we made to schedule your service in November and I did notice that the call was broken up a bit on our end which may have caused you to believe we did not call. We have corrected our phone issue and everything should be working optimally again. Secondly, our entire philosophy at Alaskan is to provide the best solution for our customers. We do this by asking questions and providing honest information on how we can best serve our customers. The maintenance that we do on an AC is just as important as the maintenance that is required for your cars. The best car in the world will break down faster if it is not receiving its routine maintenance. Although you may feel that our recommendations were masked as tricks I assure you that if you don't need it we won't recommend it. Finally, our pricing. I assure you that we are doing the best that we can to provide the high level of customer service that we deliver at the best value to our customers. There may be cheaper work out there but those companies rarely back their work the way we do here at Alaskan and in the summer when you are in need you can count on Alaskan to bring you best solution. If you have any further feedback or questions please call me at the office! I look forward to speaking with you! Sincerely, Chad

I am a new Sun City Summerlin resident (recently from California). When I wanted to replace my 25-year-old A/C and heater, I interviewed ten local A/C and heating contractors that were recommended to me. I met with all who showed up, reviewed their proposals, and ultimately chose Alaskan. I met with Chad (the owner), who struck me as an intelligent, fair, and competitive businessman. I also met Chris, the technical manager, who had a great reputation among his competitors. (When your colleagues are touting your technical skills, you MUST be good!) Alaskan prepared a complete, clear, and competitive proposal, arrived on time, completed the installation and configuration job in a professional and timely manner. Chris's team of technicians were thorough, hard working, and pleasant to deal with. The City Inspector signed off on the job, and I'm now very happy with my new unit. It is very efficient so my monthly recurring costs are considerably less. The unit is working fine, and I'm a satisfied customer. Alaskan followed up with me to check if all was well (thank you, Qiana!). I also signed up for their maintenance program. They even submitted all the registration paperwork with the manufacturer. All in all, I would recommend Alaskan to any one who asks me. One of the key reasons was their technical team, as well as their forthright, fair, WRITTEN price proposal. (Other contractors gave me oral estimates, some did not even bother to show up, and others promised what I knew they could not deliver.). Thank you, Chad, Chris, Qiana, and the rest of the Alaskan team for restoring my confidence in Las Vegas contractors!

They were supposed to install with a thermostat but that was not performed. I called them back later to find out why. They claimed I did not order that. But I did. Then they were going to give me price for that but never called back. Other than this mistake, they did do a very good job of installing. Price was fairly high.

Went well. Needed heat, Carlos was able to come right away. Found a wire going to the furnace had come loose and was not communicating with the furnace. He reconnected it and resolved the problem of restoring heat. Also, he went through the 22-point furnace inspection and cleaning for two furnaces. All is well. Purchased a 1 yr. service membership contract for 2 units that includes two free check-ups per year, service within 24 hrs., no trip charge, fully transferrable, 10% off air quality, 10% off parts, 5% off new unit purchase. Worth it because a check-up typically costs $89 per visit, per unit.

I contacted them thru Angie's List via email and was called within an hour to set an appointment for the next morning {my choice}. My A/C unit had stopped blowing cold air and was making a buzzing noise outside, I looked at the outside unit and saw that the condenser fan was not working. Robert arrived on time and was very professional. He inspected the unit and confirmed that the condenser fan motor was dead and fully explained my options since my unit is 17 years old. He made the repairs and had the unit working in about one hour and it's blowing cold air ever since. This is my second repair {unrelated problems} by Alaskan Heating and A/C and they and Robert, tech both times, have gone above and beyond to insure satisfaction. I will use them for all my heating and A/C repair.

I scheduled service over the phone with an Alaskan representative on Monday October 20 and was able to set it for Tuesday October 21. I was notified that the technicians arrival time was expected to be between 12pm-2pm. My technician, Carlos and Joe arrived promptly between 12:45pm-1:00pm. This was excellent timing considering I had to leave for an appointment at no later than 3:00pm. I knew Carlos from a previous service that he had performed at my house with a different technician. Carlos greeted me, shook my hand, and was very personable. He introduced me to his trainee Joe who was also very polite and personable. Both gentlemen were easy going and easy to talk to. I had discussed with the technicians about the services that they were going to provide based on my discussions with Chad (the owner). Carlos and Joe were very professional and understood the special areas of attention that needed to be addressed and promptly got right to work inspecting and cleaning the AC unit. Since Joe was in training, he mostly observed the processes and procedures and assisted Carlos as needed. Carlos opened up the evaporator coil box and noticed that the coil was dirty. So he sprayed it with a cleaning foam solution and then I asked that he rinse it off with water. While doing that, Carlos noticed a 2nd problem. The drain pan that sits underneath the evaporator coil was not draining properly so Carlos fixed that for me as well. Excellent job! Unfortunately, since the drain wasn't working correctly it damaged one of my brand new filtrete air filters that I had just installed the previous day. However, not a big deal. I had a replacement. Carlos then proceeded to check the main AC unit on the side of the house inspecting the wiring, lines, etc. Carlos and Joe initially didn't like the unusual noise of the AC unit and thought that could potentially be an issue but I explained to them that this is most likely a very old AC unit. After further investigating by Carlos, he learned that the AC unit is the ORIGINAL AC unit that was most likely installed when this house was built. To put that in perspective, my house was built around 1991. So this unit is pushing 25 years old and to this day continues to operate like a champ! Carlos believed that considering the condition of the AC unit, he figured that I would most likely get another 5+ years or more out of this. I've used this company for the 2nd time and I definitely like the honesty of Alaskan's service technicians such as Carlos. Carlos performed a great majority of the work and went ABOVE AND BEYOND ALL EXPECTATIONS that I had of the service being performed. Carlos has virtually ensured that I'll continue to give Alaskan my business. Chad, you have an EXCELLENT technician working for you and I'm not sure how much Carlos makes but if I owned an AC business I would definitely offer Carlos more money to come work for my company and give the guy a giant raise! Thanks for hiring professional, honest, reliable technicians such as Joe and Carlos!

After a rocky beginning, Alaskan stepped up to the plate with great service and a fair price. My upstairs air conditioning went out and I used an Angie's list special to have Alaskan do an inspection for $45. My units were 24 years old and apparently one of the units had a leak. Alaskan said leak detection would cost $700 and I decided it was time to replace my units. I would advise all Angie's list members to research units, the higher the seer, the more expensive. Air Handler units come in single speed and variable speed with the latter being better but costing more. Check out if your state offers rebates for efficient units and have those bidding on the units test the units to see whether they qualify for rebates. After working out a number of issues with Alaskan, I found them to be professional, responsible and reasonable on price. the installation of a heat pump and air handler is VERY important to the efficiency of the unit. You want experienced installers and Alaskan has experienced installers because they pay their installers more than other HVAC firms. Alaskan may not be the low bidder, but their owners Chad and Andy will treat you fairly and respond to reasonable complaints. I would recommend them.

The air conditioning was not balance because the living room was colder than the master bed room and the little bed rooms. It took a long time before they fixed. It took the whole summer before they got back to us. Even the owner showed up after my husband was started getting upset. They put in another thermostat in the bedrooms so the two areas would be the same. They also did the furnace as well. Sometime they don’t even call us back. So far it's OK. So far am not happy with them but my husband is OK but I am the one who is home.

I bought a coupon from Angie's List for $250 for them to come out and check the efficiency of my ductwork. The ad also said they would do minor repairs. They did come out and they checked my efficiency. They said the problem was that my house was built with the old metal ductwork and that it would be useless to try to patch it up as it wouldn't do much good. I asked about the cost of having new ductwork put in and they told me a whopping $4500. Their service person was very knowledgable and professional. I just think that $250 was a lot to pay to have them put suction cups over the 9 vents in my house and turn on their meter. I was disappointed that there was nothing they could do to make my ductwork more efficient without putting in a new system.

Sent message from Angie's list to contractor to contact me and received a phone call in about 1 hour and set an appointment for the next day. Robert the tech arrived on time and was very professional. I showed him where the water was leaking from the A/C return duct into the house. He went into the attic and checked things out and show me the problem areas. Robert recommended adjusting the drip pan and cleaning out the drain lines from the pan and A/C unit. He performed the services and the problem is solved. Hats off to Robert for crawling in my very cramped attic on a hot Vegas day.
Description of Work: Cleaned out drain lines from the A/C unit and drip pan and adjusted the drip pan so water would flow out the drain.

I called Alaskan Heating and Air Conditioning to have my air ducts checked for leaks. I believe I called Thursday to ask the owner questions regarding the service being provided as well as how long the process takes. After about 15 minutes of talking to him, I decided that I would give them a try and scheduled myself for the service. To my surprise, I was scheduled the very next day (Friday) and the 2 technicians that came, showed up within the specified time table that was given. The technicians (Justin and I think Carlos) did a walk around the house to visually inspect the air vents. During this time they also asked me questions regarding what I thought could be causing any air leaks and I also asked more detailed questions about what they were doing and the services they provided. Justin explained to me step by step what the process was and what he was doing which I thought was excellent. In short, Justin and Carlos sealed off all of the air ducts throughout the house, hooked up a large air duct hose to the main unit and proceeded to run their test. The test pushes 25 psi of air into the system and then tests the amount of air that returns back to the unit. I was told by Justin that ideally there should be 0% leakage. However, in the real world 0% is generally not possible. I was told before this test was started that most systems have a % loss of around 18-23% and is generally considered normal. My test came back at around 17% which Justin thought was excellent considering the age of the house (25 years old). The entire process took about a couple of hours, with most of the work dedicated to blocking and unblocking all of the air vents throughout the house. Overall, the technicians were very professional and I'm delighted to hear that my air ducts do not have any serious issues. Thanks guys!

Perfect!!! The technicians provided prompt, courteous, and efficient service.
Description of Work: Two Alaskan technicians came to service my air conditioner. The first technician, Justin, replaced a non-functioning switch on my NV Energy thermostat for free. The second technician, Robert, came to clean my air conditioner coils. However, he patiently explained that I would save money for this service if I upgraded my contract by $51.00 and not pay $180.00 cost for that service. That latter service would be included in the upgrade which will take place at the beginning of the next spring-summer season. There was no charge for the current trip. I did upgrade and saved $129.00. As a consumer who has experienced shoddy air conditioning companies in the past, I truly appreciated the respect and integrity of these two technicians from Alaskan Heating and Air Conditioning. Thank you Justin. Thank you Robert!

I Googled Carrier Air Conditioner parts. United Parts Supply has it priced at $381.01 The man spent less than 3 hours on the job, including the time required to go get the part. He said the part he was providing was a genuine Carrier AC part, and charged $905 including installation. The service call was $45. The profit made on the part was out of line.
Description of Work: Replaced the HSI Furnace Control.

Response from Alaskan Heating & Air Conditioning
Immediately upon reading the review this morning we have taken action to investigate our customers concern. We found that our tech mistakenly priced the part as a specialty part instead of a standard part. The difference is cost is $225, which we have already credited to our customer. At Alaskan Heating & Air Conditioning, we have an outstanding group of people, who are always looking to improve ourselves and do the right thing for our customers. When we make mistakes we are quick to own the mistake and help to ensure that the lesson is learned by everyone so that it is not repeated in the future. Moving forward we will find a way to verify non-standard pricing procedures. We are always grateful for feedback and it does feel good to know that outside of our pricing mistake we performed at outstanding levels of service. In closing I would like to add that I had a very nice call with our customer and he informed me that he would continue to work with us in the future due to the way we have taken care of this situation. Sincerely, Chad Alaskan Heating & Air Conditioning
