First this is a rental property and the tenants had to make the arrangements. I am currently living out of the country. The problem I had with them is that they took a credit card from me for payment. After several emails trying to get how much they charged my account, they informed me that they no longer accepted the credit card I gave them and could I give them another one. Seems the person taking the information doesn't know which credit cards they accept. They need more training for the person answering the phones and emails. Finally, after about three weeks we finally got it all settled. About the work preformed: I would not have taped the plug to the dishwasher since that was the reason the outlet and quot;caught on fireand quot;. Not sure how long this and quot;fixand quot; is going to last. If it happens again, I don't think I will be using them again.

I was impressed that they showed up on a Sunday to perform the work as they had gotten behind due to rain. Did not like that they were going to charge an additional $300 to dig the trenches in addition to the $1700 for the wiring. We did not have them dig the trenches. But, the thing I was most dissatified with was they did not tell us we had to be present or leave a note for the city inspector to enter our backyard. By not telling us, it put our project and other contractors behind schedule by 5 days. Also, they never seemed to call us back.

We at Penny Electric apologize for the delay in your project and any inconveniences it may have caused. The week your job was scheduled it rained for 4 days straight which being a electrical contractor is a HUGE concern. We did our best with our employees to maintain the schedule and complete these projects in a timely manner. The inspection complications were due to the City removing the green card to allow access from there packets, the inspector were instructed that they "were out of" the green card and to call to enter if they had any concerned. We had 6 other jobs pass inspection with this protocol. We called the city and informed them of your situation and they sent someone as soon as possible which was after the Thanksgiving break. We were closed with a emergency number in case of any concerns to assist the customers over the Holiday weekend and we promptly called back Monday morning with a status of your project. Trenching price concerns, we inform the resident that it would be more cost effective since his yard was under a full landscaping renovation that the landscape contractor which we work for is a more cost effective solution but he requested a quote from us as well. We again apologize for the inconvenience of your project, we are in business to please and satisfy the customers to the best of our abilities. Cole Penny

The workers were punctual and professional. They worked efficiently and kept me informed throughout their tasks (which were conducted on two separate dates). I received a 10% discount as an Angie's List member, without having to ask for one. I especially appreciated the estimate process. I have a fairly long list of electrical upgrades I wish to make, and the estimator gave me separate prices for each task. The quotes don't expire, which is very helpful, because it gives me the freedom to plan additional work when I can afford it. When I called to schedule some of the initial tasks, the office manager had no difficulty locating the estimate. When I slightly changed some of the work on the first visit, the office manager quickly confirmed an adjusted price. I will definitely use Penny :Electric for the remaining upgrades I plan to make to my house.

The good: they were on time for the quote. They dealt with all the permits They got Nevada energy to kill the power and reconnect the same day Their work passed the inspection no problem Their price was very reasonable, but did not include circuit breakers or wiring the circuits. I appreciated this, because I was then able to buy my own breakers and not have to deal with markups, and my electrician installed them and wired them no problem. When my electrician came in to populate the panel with breakers and land the wire, he was very complimentary and said I should and quot;recommend the heckand quot; out of Penny Electric. Reasons for not getting an A: -) I was quoted a Siemens panel and got a Square D. Not a big deal, but I'm really glad I didn't go buy the breakers before hand -) There was a 3 week gap between saying and quot;goand quot; and getting the power turned off, all due to Nevada power scheduling. Penny Electric had 3 weeks to research the panel to fit my space. I distinctly told the estimator I wanted a 40 space 40 circuit panel. The installer was late in the AM and I'm positive that's because he went to Home Depot and got whatever panel he could find. -) The panel is a 20 space 40 circuit, not a 40/40. I was really really unhappy when I noticed, and by that time it was way too late. Now my options for additional circuits are severely limited -) The panel is a surface mount panel, NOT a flush mount, but he crammed it in anyway which warped the frame -) I hate the design of the panel door; there's a slot on the bottom front that a rotating tab must fit through. The door has to drop down to swing open. since the frame of the panel was warped (wrong type for the situation) by cramming it in between the studs, it's a total pain on the you-know-what to open and close. -) when I went to get the stucco repaired around the panel, the stucco guy showed me how the panel would never be at the right depth in the wall for the wall to be flat - he ended up curving the wall in to meet the panel edge. so yes - a completely functional job that was safely done at a great price. But, every time I have to look at and open the panel, I have that and quot;grrrrrand quot; reaction.

The beeping was driving me crazy. I called NV Energy and found the only supply the electric and collect the money. They do not help the customer when there is a problem. I am so happy to be a member of Angie's List. I found a GREAT electric company in my area. PENNY ELECTRIC. Altho all the service people were out on call and they were booked until Monday ( I see why) a supervisor came out to help me. His name is Herman Hildreth. I asked if I should replace all the smoke detectors batteries in the house. He said no, that they go out so seldom it was not necessary. He could have made money on an old lady, but he did not. On top of being all of that, HE WOULD NOT CHARGE ME FOR JUST CHANGING THE BATTERY. I can not believe in this day and age a company would come out on a service call, take care of the problem, be so helpful, as well as being so nice. The person that answer (Mary) was also very nice and very helpful. If I ever have the need for services of an electric company, I will surly call PENNY ELECTRIC.

UPDATE: 8/20 The owner of the company reached out to me to discuss what happened. He was very apologetic and promptly resolved the situation with the staff member. I have to give him credit for caring enough about his customers to follow-up in the way he did. ORIGINAL POST: I called on Monday to schedule an appointment for an estimate for additional work and repairs (couple things they did previously need to be fixed). Called Monday at 2 pm, the receptionist wasn't able to schedule the appointment and asked if she could call me back. I agreed and told her that I had a conference call from 3-4 pm however. Never heard back until this morning. This morning she calls to and quot;confirm an appointment at 10 amand quot;. I told her we didn't HAVE an appointment, that no one called me back to schedule and maybe she was thinking of someone else. She then proceeded to ARGUE WITH ME and said she SPOKE TO ME and that I agreed on 10 am this morning. It was absolutely not true and completely ridiculous that she was taking that tone with me. Best part - after she was done she said and quot;Well, then do you want to schedule an appointment NOW?and quot; HUH? I almost burst out laughing. Not a chance. They definitely have internal communication problems and based upon that alone I wouldn't recommend them.

The finished project turned out pretty well, however there were a few issues that to be honest….. prevent me from giving an “A” rating on this project. Since we were living out of town at the time the house was being built, we had to make most of the plans and arrangements either by phone, or mainly through eMail. After we closed on the house, we met Cole at the house and went over the estimate step by step, including the placement and function of the wall switches near our patio door. He was very punctual and knowledgeable and we felt confident that everything would go well once they got started. When the time came to get started, we were out of town. Cole’s crew worked well with the builder’s representative in gaining access to the house while we were away. They also picked up the coach lights we had purchased through Home Depot, which was a big PLUS. Cole texted me a couple photos pertaining to the placement of the coach lights on the patio cover poles, which was also a HUGE help. When we returned to Henderson, we noted several issues with the job: ~ One of the interior fans had a missing glass sconce and one of the exterior security lights had a missing glass lens. We found these later, broken, in the original boxes with the other packing materials. Cole apologized for not letting us know that they were broken, and stated they came that way in the box. I guess that is possible, but if we had known that before returning to Henderson, we could have brought along our receipts to get them replaced. ~ The wall switches to control the lights and fans out on the patio did not function as expected. After contacting Cole, he did send out a Technician to correct these issues. I wish I would have asked this Technician’s name because he was VERY good at correcting the problems and he even cleaned up nicely before he left. A+ to that guy. ~ When I was inspecting the new patio cover, I noticed that 4 of the new electrical junction boxes located above the cover and along the house did not have cover plates over them, leaving the wiring inside exposed to the outside elements. Cole had mentioned that the crew would be working into the evening the day they were working on our house, since it was the day before Thanksgiving and they would be trying to get everything completed before the end of that day. Easy to miss seeing those missing junction box covers in the dark I suppose. The A+ guy mentioned above fixed this issue as well. ~ When cutting the recessed mounting boxes into the stucco for the new coach and security lights, it appeared that there may have been two different Technicians handling this. The work on one side of the patio required very little caulking around the new light fixtures, while the work on the other side showed much more damage to the new stucco and was filled with a LOT of silicone caulk. There was also a corner inside the kitchen where they evidently needed to feed wire through, that was also filled with caulk. When I tried to paint over the caulk with paint to match the surrounding surfaces, the paint would not stick !!!!! I tried to contact Cole and had to leave a voice mail message stating my displeasure with the crew using a NON-paintable silicone caulk to fill in around the lights and the kitchen corner. His answer was that it is “Code” to use that silicone caulk, and that he was sorry that I was not pleased !?!?!? No mention of coming over to check it out or anything ! ? ! ? ! After that, I went to Home Depot, talked with their Electrical Department and they directed me to the correct PAINTABLE silicone caulk, which also satisfies the “Code” requirements. Returning home, I dug out the Penny Electric caulk and replaced it with my Home Depot purchase. Once dry, I was able to paint to match. THIS is the primary reason I can only give a “B” rating for this project.
Description of Work: The Penny Electric crew installed the coach lights, two ceiling fans and security lights for a new patio cover on our new house in Henderson. They also hung and balanced 4 interior ceiling fans and installed a photoelectric sensor to control an exterior porch light.

Contacted the company and Cole came out immediately to give me a quote. We settled on a specific price and date. The morning the install was scheduled to begin, 2 worker showed up right at the scheduled 8 am start time. They introduced themselves and they began surveying the job. Within 10 minutes, the owner Cole showed up and assisted his crew with unloading their tools and ladders off the truck. Cole informed me the his crew had come up with even a better design for running the power from my upstairs Master Bedroom which would be more astatically pleasing to the eye. The men went right to work and to my surprise the work turned out fantastic. Other than the one conduit that attached to the house, not one other piece of wiring, piping nor conduit is visible to the eye. The 2 worker came up with a genius design and figured out a way to run all the wiring/conduit through the lattice (patio cover), down to the fans. My wife had already purchased 2 beautiful ceiling fans and light fixtures coded for wet/outdoor use, and before we knew it they had assembled and mounted both fans, to include taking their time to balance both. My whole experience with Penny Electric is two-thumbs up. The workers were extremely polite and totally professional. Even when they had to come inside my home, they took the time to put booty over their shoes and they vacuumed up all particles both inside and out from their drilling. Although I was extremely nervous that they had to climb on top of my new patio cover and disassemble a beam to run the conduit through, everything was reassemble and repainted so there's no evident that the entire project wasn't all accomplished during the same install. Will definitely use them again should I have any need for additional electrical work. A+++++!!!

The previous owners of our Fannie Mae and quot;repoand quot; left some souvenirs including no remote controls for anything. When I aksed Jesus to fix a ceiling fan he discivered it was a remote-operated fan with no remote! He removed the control so it would work from the switches. One of the things I liked the best was that Jesus arrived, sized-up the job and called back for the needed components, which arrived with Marcus in minutes. A very efficient system. Five tasks took about 4 hours and everything was operational. Great job and I'm glad I found them on Angie's List after reading the reviews.
Description of Work: Jesus arrived on time after an advance call. He did everything I asked and even a couple of extra's which popped into my mind. I cannot say enough about the quality and professionalism of Jesus the electrician. I would tell him what I wanted and we would sometimes negotiate the solution. I would not hesitate to call on Penny Electric again and will.

I got two guys who showed up early, introduced themselves at the door, and did all the work quickly and in a really professional manner, despite some difficulty with the star light's chain, the bulbs for the kitchen not fitting properly, and one of the patio fixtures broken inside the box (Lamps Plus replaced it and the guys waited for it to get to the house!). They disposed of all the packaging, old fixtures, and other debris, both wiping and vacuuming, and worked to the best of their abilities. Thanks, Cole, things have not changed, your firm is still the greatest!pat chapinwww.patchapin.com
Description of Work: I used Penney when we first moved in a year ago and had to address some issues immediately; am still mired in remodel but this time around I was wanting something done about my kitchen ceiling bulbs (Jack in the Beanstalk might be almost all the way up before he could change the bulbs) so that there was counter light; I had a Moravian Star light hanging light fixture from Mexico (which turned out not to be grounded) and some wall sconce fixtures to be installed in one bathroom, a fan left over from the first time to be installed, and finally, some patio lights to be installed and the old ones removed in the Nevada heat. I had learned from Cole Penney that his business had grown, and although I think this is great, it made me a little nervous just in case he was doing so much business he had gotten slipshod over his help.

WOW, watching the two electricians work, was like watching a Cirque show, everything they did, was graceful and professional from digging a hole, to run conduit to using a heat gun to shape the conduit around a strange bend, it was a pleasure watching them. After work was done, I added additional work where they had to run new wires in the pull they just completed. Not a complaint, not a whimper. they did additional work, and I was given a discount, because of all the other work they did. When I told them about a problem in my ceiling with a different electrician, before stepping foot in my house, they put on jumpsuits and booties, to climb in the attic, fixed the problem, and did not even charge me for the additional work. If I could rate Higher then a and quot;Aand quot; I would!! Jonathan

If there was an and quot;A+and quot; rating with stars, this firm would get it from me. I've been so tired of rip-off artists and doing business with this firm was a breath of fresh air. I had purchased a repo house that needed all kinds of work, and Penny Electric was middle bid for the first phase I figured I could afford, as everyone seems to give an estimate and then go over it anyway. He arrived, I might add, exactly on time, gave me a written estimate and we made an appointment for the work to be done which he also arrived on time for. He came with two crew members as promised, and all three men worked the entire day. I had a problem with one, who spent more time dawdling even though he was right in my line of sight. He also broke a new light fixture and made a real mess not cleaning up in the bathroom, but left us to discover this after he left. Mr. Penney and the other man did their work cleaning as they went along, and I hated to contact him to complain about the one man, but the broken fixture and mess in the other room irritated me. Since I'd paid already, I expected to hear the old 'Vegas shut-down anyway. Far from it! Mr. Penny immediately made arrangements to come and see the problems, and in spite of the fact that he already had credited me with a ceiling fan installation (we didn't have the fan when he came), insisted on making things right. I might add that while they were here they inspected a couple of fans I thought would have to be replaced because they didn't work, and showed me it was only the switches that needed adjusting. They could have held us up and nobody the wiser. I doubt that one fellow is working their any longer, as apparently he was a recent hire anyway.. Mr. Penny genuinely wants to know if you were pleased or if one of his people screwed up. He and his regular crew do beautiful work in a professional manner, and I cannot say enough good things about this company! I'm working on getting my fixtures together to have him back for the next phase, and recommend Penny Electric highly! pat chapin www.patchapin.com

Out of all the work they did, they made only one recessed light hole mistake; however, they repaired it and called in a painter to match the existing paint color. All workers cleaned up any messes they had made. The end result was a very professional installation. I would highly recommend them for any recessed lighting work.
Description of Work: Installed recessed lighting in six rooms and relocated two TV Cables and AC power outlets to the height of two wall mounted LCD displays. The TV/Cable and AC, which were initially at the base of the wall just below the LCD TV, were moved five feet up the wall, which allowed no wires to be seen, this dramatically cleaned up the wiring mess going to the LCD TV. They did the whole job (recessed lighting and TV wiring) within 10 hours (one day). Each TV/Cable relocation cost $150, which included the recessed dual AC outlet. The recessed lighting cost was for four lights per room. The cost was dependent on the diameter of the recessed light housing being installed. For my smaller 10 x 11 rooms I used 4" diameter recessed lights, and in the bigger 15 x 14 and larger rooms I used the 6" diameter recessed lights. The cost of the four 6" diameter lights per room was $425, which included the dimmer switch. The cost of the four 4" diameter lights were $485, which also included the dimmer switch. Yes, the smaller lights do cost more. It's important to note that the workers were awesome, they didn't have to cut square holes in the wall to try and fish the necessary AC wiring for the lights, they were able to do all the work within the four circular, recessed lighting holes they created. Additionally, four of my rooms had no attic access and they still had no issue.
