Backyard Connection

I'm very pleased with the results of my backyard design. The results were aligned completely with the plan. It's made a huge difference to the ambiance of my backyard that was previously only dirt. The crew worked very hard to complete the project through the holidays and in the cold.

Excellent job; finished work in a week.

Workers arrived on schedule. After a slight glitch (wrong pavers were delivered), work progressed rapidly. Now, instead of unsightly overgrown shrubs, and no place to sit, we have a lovely backyard, with a patio extending the full length of the house, and facing a new tree in a raised bed, along with flowering shrubs. Dennis Thomas and his crew were a pleasure to work with. We couldn't be happier.

Dennis was a very kind and considerate man when listening to what I invisioned for my yard. Within a day or two I had the plans in my hands to consider with the estimate. I had 4 other estimates but Dennis easily was my choice because he met all of my criteria for my desired environment. His supervisor paid close attention to my concerns upon instillation and related them to Dennis who in turn made adjustments. Everyone was professional and completed the project in 1 1/2 wk due to rain. I can highly recommend Backyard Connection and Dennis Thomas.

I have to say that I was a little skeptical about this company at first, but after consulting with their references I hired them to design our front and back yard. They did a Beautiful job. They were always there when they said they would be, the crew was very professional and nice. I was also very surprised by how inexpensive they were comparing to other companies that didn't offer half as much as they did Our landscaping looks absolutely beautiful. Backyard Connection transformed my desert backyard into a pleasant oasis that added tremendous functionality to our home. I am very pleased with the work completed and have included a detailed grading of each element. The project included the following: 1. Adding 35’-10’ cement patio flooring with an Alumawood Cover. The work was completed by an associate contractor and I would give this a grade of A. 2. The backyard included a conversation area with cement flooring that included a fire pit. Grade given is A+. 3. The backyard includes a three-hole putting green and again the grade is A+. 4. All plumbing and wiring to make the backyard work was installed and the grade for this is an A. 5. Several plants and trees were put in place and this gets a grade of A. 6. About 900 Square feet of synthetic lawn was put in place and I give this a grade of B. Reason for the lower grade is the number of seams that are visible and some patches were not set to flow the same as the original grass. All of the foundation for the grass was well done and overall it gives a very nice look to the backyard. 7. A landscape lighting system was put in place and is working very well to highlight the various plants and features of the backyard. Grade is an A. 8. The works was completed in a month’s time, so I was pleased with that. Grade A. I would hire this contractor again.

Dennis is threatening to put a lien on our property. We had a contract but no work was done. After a no-show by them on a Monday, we spoke to Dennis a number of times and let him know we no longer wanted any work done by his company. We let them go before any work was done and they're still harassing us.

The overall design of the landscape was great and I was pleased to begin with. When several of the plants started to die over the summer, they said they would replace them, but they later refused to do so. One of the employees came to my house and looked at them and agreed that it would be better to do the replacement when the weather cooled. When I called to schedule this, I was told that the warranty period had passed and they would not replace the plants. When I had someone else do the job, it was discovered that the plants were not properly planted (an adequate hole was not dug to begin with, and not enough soil for the plant to thrive). Also, when the weed barrier was peeled back to dig better holes, trash from the original landscapers was discovered everywhere. This included pieces of pipe, old sprinkler heads, and various debris. This trash had been just left there, and covered up by the weed barrier material. Although this guy seems to be really good at designing landscapes, he has a lot to learn about customer service and follow up. Towards the end of the project when I pointed out things that needed to be corrected, he was irritable and seemed like he just wanted to be paid and get out of there. I would not used them again.
