Work was done in an OK manner. Shock came with the charge of $200.00 for a little more than an hours work. My bad, the day before he offered to go work up a price and let me know. I did not think it was necessary. Knew it would take an hour or so to do and prevailing handyman rates appeared to be $40.00 an hour. After work done I questioned the charge and was told he gets a minimum of $200.00 per job. Could have told me this the day before without having to go and calculate the job cost. I strongly suggest anyone look else where for a handyman.
Description of Work: Backfill a hole around irrigation valve box. Approximately 2' X 3' X 3' deep. Ensure valve boxes in alignment.

I had some wind damage to a fence so I called Charles and asked what he charged to replace fence posts. He said $150 per post which included labor and all materials. I arranged to have him come over in the afternoon to look at the fence. He suggested that I use 4X6 posts as they would last longer (cost $25 each). He also recommended that I replace two sections of fence (estimated cost for labor and materials $200) and we found a third post that needed to be replaced as well. He gave me a breakdown of the additional costs as follows, 4X6 post 3 at $25, boards for the two new sections 34 at $2.27 each, and new rails for the two new sections $8, he used 6 of them. I figured this out at about $275 total for materials which included tax and %15 for his time and gas to pick up the materials. When he presented the bill he listed labor at 3 posts $150 each for a total of $450. He listed materials at $788 for a total of $1,238. When I questioned him about the cost of materials he stated, "That's what I paid and if I had billed you for all the labor the cost would have really been closer to $1,500." I knew that he had been working on another project at the same time and asked if he might have gotten the two totals mixed up. He again stated, "No that's what I paid but if you'd feel better about the job I'll bring over a couple of hundred and give back to you." I said, "That's not the point. If you can honestly say that you spent $788 for materials for my job, then that's what I'll pay." Once again he said, "That's what I paid." I replied, "Fine", and hung up. Yes I know it's my fault I should have gotten everything in writing prior to his starting the job. I'm not saying don't use Charles, the work he did was top notch. I choose to believe that he's confused the amount of money he spent on materials as I wish to believe that people are intrinsically good.
Description of Work: Replaced two sections of fence and 3 fence posts. Always get a written estimate if you have any work done. Use a licensed contractor, I believe in this case I would have saved money
