The service man arrived right on time. He was able to trouble-shoot the problem quickly and make the repairs needed to get the system up and running again. He also inspected both of my boilers and determined that there were a few problems that should be repaired during a second visit. He also found a small leak in one of my baseboard heaters and did an excellent job replacing a poorly placed and designed valve. I found the service man to be very knowledgeable and felt all of the recommended repairs were reasonable and necessary. The final bill was a bit if a shock, but they had to make several 80 mile trips to my house from their office, spent all or part of 4 days at my house and replaced several parts, so all things considered it wasn't completely unreasonable. The main thing is they were reliable, very knowledgeable and now I feel like I have a good plumber to call when I have a problem.

Description of Work: I called early in the morning to have a broken gas regulator replaced before we went on vacation. They said they would be there in the afternoon. I called again about 2pm and they said they'd be there soon. They called about 5 to reschedule for the next week, when we wouldn't be here.

Description of Work: They were on time and professional. They were a great price and didn't leave until they knew they had done the job right. The technician was clean and aware of my carpets, he laid down plastic which was really professional.

Ihad a broken water pipe under my house. I called at 8:20 am thursday morning and was told a man would come that afternoon. NO SHOW, NO CALL. I called 8:00 am Friday morning. I was told that they had forgot to tell me their men were out on a large job the day before, but the office lady spoke with her serviceman, Julian, and he would definitely be out in the afternoon. Well, it's 5:15 pm on Friday evening and again, NO SHOW, NO CALL. I double checked my cell # with them so I would not be missed. I am appalled that they never even bothered to call and tell me they were not showing, again. So disappointed in this company and their lack of professionalism. I gave a second chance and they even flaked on that one. Would NEVER recommend them to anyone.

I am critical and frustrated by the company's administrative inefficiency and slow follow-up, BUT once the work was done, it was really well done.

Professional and courteous handling of our enquiry and scheduling of engineer's visit ... Engineer arrived promptly as scheduled after notifying us by phone that he was on time. Although confident that the problem was behind the shower valve, the engineer took the trouble to get into our rather awkward crawl space to confirm that the source was not below the bathroom flooring before cutting into the sheetrock behind the bath/shower. Quickly located a pinhole leak in the piping ... Cut out the leaking section of copper pipe and replaced it. At all stages the engineer explained what he was doing and why, what he expected to find, and what he did find. Also checked pressures in the well and pump house to confirm that high pressure had not contributed to the leak. Worked carefully but quickly and efficiently. Courteous, professional and pleasant service thoughout!

I called this company and they had someone around the next day (I called late the day before). They had the best price and were amazing when they were here. The guys didn't get the blockage right away however they did not give up they kept going until the job was complete, and even recommended a product to keep my lines clear and about hiring someone to do a line check on the property. They were very knowledgeable and very helpful and i would use them again for any plumbing problems in the future.
Description of Work: I had a blocked toilet when I brought my house and was calling around for plumbers, who were so high I left the problem alone until I found Hawk.

Hawk Mechanical (HM) was called to get heat into the large bedroom. The problem was ultimately fixed in the third visit by connecting a loose wire in the bedroom's thermostat. The first service tech (and helper) that arrived did not have the knowledge to perform the service. The tech replaced the pressure tank and a pressure valve (since the system's pressure was "low") after spraying water and expensive glycol all over the boiler room. But did not prime the system or check to see if heat was working in the large bedroom. They left the house. HM was called and responded within two hours with a second tech and the same helper. The second tech was very knowledgeable. He told me that the new tank did not have pressure and primed the system. But the pump was not working. (Pumps burn out if the are running without fluid.) I told them that the problem was theirs and called their boss and raised h***. They returned with a new $350 pump, primed the system again, and prepared to leave. So I went to the large bedroom and found NO heat. That is when they found the loose wire. I ultimately was not charged for the second and third visits or the pump.
Description of Work: Loose wire was attached plus some unnecessary work was performed. See below.

Not recommended. Hawk installed the original equipment water heater, and since then a valve went out (not their fault) resulting in 2 days of racket, and then without warning the hot water went from hot to warm to cold, even on full blast. The tech decided an electronic component needed to be replaced and that he would order it so it would be in the following day. Not only did the part NOT come in the following day, after my first call was not returned, I started calling the following day, and called every hour to try and reach someone. I did not have my call returned, nor did they answer even once… on a weekday. Finally the receptionist called the following day and informed me that a part had been ordered but that it wouldn't be in till wednesday of the following week (this was on a wednesday). When asked if there was any way to expedite the part, she said "no" with an snarky "oh well" attitude. So... not only was it not possible to shower, there was no heat as we have radiant water heating. The lack of urgency was completely unacceptable, as this took place during record cold in February... Finally, a different tech came out with the part after a full 7 days without heat or hot water, and tells me that he actually didn't need the part, the only thing that needed to happen was a reset of the electronics once the wire that melted was replaced, as the previous tech failed to do so. He did this and left within 20 minutes. No part needed. Basically carelessness led to a week of no heat or hot water during a record cold snap. After all this, my landlord called them to ask what the problem was, and request that we not be charged for one of the service visits, and the owner of Hawk, Max became quite upset and hung up on her. Action this unprofessional in a small town like Taos is pretty amazing to me when you have such a small population from which to earn your livelihood. Avoid this clown if you can, because he'll charge you $115 for a diagnostic (even if they don’t fix anything) and that’s in-town! Ridiculous. ---- Hawk Mechanical installed the original equipment in the home as best as I could tell. Their sticker is on it, and was the only reason we contacted them to have it fixed. Perhaps they didn't install it... but they repaired it at least once. Not that I know or care, this review is about the professionalism of the company, nothing else. The amazing thing is that this was no $ out of my pocket, and I was still this dissatisfied... that's how bad this was. As far as we knew the last problem was from a failure of their recent repair, and they should have come out again to fix the problem 100%. Max, the owner declined by hanging up on the landlord when she suggested the visit be at no charge. NM gas asked people affected by last winter’s gas outage to file claims for excessive bills for electric heat, firewood, damage to heating units, pipes freezing etc... Our entire interaction with Hawk mechanical occurred AFTER GAS SERVICE WAS RESTORED. The landlord filed a claim for electrical bills, and damage to the heating unit pending an investigation of the situation. The gas company called Hawk to investigate, as they should have, and they were told that the outage did not effect the heater, which was perfectly ok with me, but NM Gas did reimburse me for excessive electrical use for heat. What is NOT ok with me is the owner, Max, refusing complete work to a customer’s satisfaction, not having his receptionist return calls, and hanging up on my landlord for what was a completely civil interaction on her part. This is not a case of a customer being upset over one interaction, or one transaction. (note that there are no good reviews up here either) This took place over a period of over 2 weeks. I rarely leave this kind of scathing review unless there was a major issue with a product or service. Believe me, I know that things can go south from time to time because of extenuating circumstances... I worked in construction for 10 years. This is not a case of extenuating circumstances (the gas was back on when all this took place) but of a totally unprofessional and unscrupulous business owner (Max), who apparently thinks a good business model is to hire rude receptionists, careless techs, or fail to instill in staff a sense of urgency in serving the customer. He also fails to understand that it is NEVER okay to hang up on a customer. I guess the prevailing thought over there is "if they don't like it, tough s*$t." I’m sure I’m younger than the owner, Max, and I don’t own a business, but I was raised hearing, and working for companies that believe “the customer is always right” even if the customer is unreasonable, which we certainly were not after 2 weeks without heat or hot water and 3 visits that didn’t fix the problem. If I can save one other customer the aggravation we went through, by keeping them from employing the services of someone who runs a business under the mantra "you can’t please every customer... o well" …you bet I will! This was a bad situation that Hawk made 1000x worse, when they could have resolved it professionally by just sticking with it will the problem was fixed.
Description of Work: Hot water heater (also house heater i.e. radiant floor heat) stopped working Visit #1 Hawk came out to investigate problem, and determined a part was needed as wiring had come in contact with a heat source and melted the wiring. Tech stated that it should be in the next day, and was very polite. Visit #2 Hawk came out with part after a full 7 days (no calls to their office were returned) and replaced it and left. Heat did not start working. They heard machinery (pump) running, and assumed it was working. It wasn't. Visit #3 Hawk came back after another 2 days to re-set a circuit that was shut off during the repair, which was the reason water was not heating. After almost 2 full weeks without heat or hot water, during a record cold snap, the problem was finally fixed.

Response from Hawk Mechanical
This person was not even the customer. The service for this tenant played out during the worst natural gas outage in Northern New Mexico history. He was a rude & nasty tenant who felt that he was more important than all the rest of the people without heat or water in Taos (he actually had heat unlike others). We were overwhelmed with service calls, but our phone is ALWAYS answered & calls are returned to the ACTUAL customers (he was a tenant). We are courteous to all - even abusive people such as him. We have no control over suppliers during this tpe of emergency situation & did the best the we could till it was complete. Hawk Mechanical did not install the original equipment. An old water valve failed and was replaced. A control board was delayed (by the supplier) & reordered. The board was originally not working, possibly due to moisture, & it failed the diagnostic testing so we ordered the part. When we went to put it in & discovered that it would work with a reset, we just got everything working again & did not charge for the board, saving the customer approx. $580.00. The whole service call was no charged as a courtesy. We ate the cost of the control board as it was nonrefundable. The tenant had the landlord call us to try to get a reimbursement of hundreds of dollars for their inconvenience. Then the New Mexico Gas Co. calls to verify a claim, turned in by the landlord to them, for service charges that were never billed by Hawk Mechanical. This was a scam against the Gas Co. & Hawk. They were angry that we did not back up their "claim" or pay them for "their inconvenience" and it reached a point where the phone needed to be hung up to end the abuse. We have never had any bad reviews before. This tenant has written reviews about others & is NEVER satisfied. We will not deal with them again.
