Shawn arrived an hour early to give the estimate. He indicated the chimney crown needed replacing in addition to replacing the spalling bricks and mortar work. After examining, he said the standard cost would be $2500, half in advance. I also asked about replacing the spalling bricks on top of about 10 feet of short wall; but the price ($600) was higher than I wanted to pay. Appointment was set for the following week, but changed when Shawn called the morning he was to arrive because of something unexpected that came up for him. The next day he arrived around 10 am with a helper (20+ year old son) and his younger son; said his young son had an appointment so he brought him along. They removed the concrete and brick from the crown, cleaned up the debris and left around 2 pm. (Shawn had left his older son at noon to do the work while he took younger son to appt.) My husband found a screw they dropped in our driveway and wasn't happy. The next day all three arrived again, around 10:30-11 am, to resume work. Shawn said his young son didn't want to go to the Boys&Girls Club, so he had brought him along. The older son did a good job replacing the bricks and crown. Younger son asked his dad if he could get up on the roof. Shawn didn't respond; I had to tell the younger son that he was not to be climbing on the scaffolding, much less get up on the roof, They began removing spalling bricks and left around 2pm. The next day all three arrived again and worked about 4 hours. (I saw the young son playing with a hand-made wooden door-knocker breaking it; his father was aware, yet neither said anything.) Some of the bricks were replaced on one side & shoulder of chimney and several were not done, leaving openings in the chimney work despite the fact I had indicated I wanted the work done before the 4th of July and he had agreed.. Shawn told me he'd be back Monday (July 6) to finish; the older son indicated he would not be available on Monday.Shawn came on Monday and replaced missing bricks and as he was finishing it rained quite heavily. He put a plastic plant tray over it, held with bricks, to protect the fresh mortar on the chimney shoulder. He asked for payment as he had completed the work he thought we had agreed upon. Part of the mortar had not been repaired, but he said he would return to fix it later that week. The next day I examined the work and the mortar had not been tuck-pointed and was smeared on the face of the bricks as well as splattered on the flagstone walkway. I can do a better job of pointing. He never returned to clean the brick or flagstone or to finish sealing the separated mortar. Shawn may do a good job chimney cleaning, but I cannot recommend him for doing any masonry work. His helper, however, did okay.

Nothing was wrong and I now know how to take the front covering glass off myself. Answered questions I had. I thought at the time the service was expensive for about 20 minutes worth of work - without the discount I believe the cost would have been about $124 - but it probably wasn't especially since I was paying for the expertise to determine if anything was defective and I didn't do a comparison fee check.

I purchased a wood stove insert (with installation) from Shawn's Chimney Sweep and finally, 7 and a half months later, with much work on my part, it is done. They were expensive, but I thought it was worth the cost to have a "professional" installation. I was very wrong. It took 2 months for them to come install the stove after payment, and (after arriving 2 hours late) they did a very poor job on the installation. I had to take the stove apart and re-install the blower mounting plate and side panels because they were not attached correctly and made a horrible noise when the blower turned on. Secondly, the stove was not anywhere close to level. Third, they didn't bother following the instructions to move the power cord to the side where there was an electrical outlet, leaving the stove useless, so I had to do that as well. Finally, they did not follow the installation instructions to "seal either the damper area around the chimney liner or the insert surround", so I could see daylight at the top of the chimney. I had to buy some high-temperature batting to temporarily seal the chimney off and prevent drafts. Note that "temporarily" here turned into "all winter". They said that the surround was damaged in shipping and that they had to order another one. Every month, I would call to check when they would finish the job by installing a replacement, and every time the answer was "next week". Finally, 5 and a half months after the installation, they came out to install the replacement surround. Again, they left the side panels incorrectly attached so they rattled when the blower ran. They also "leveled" the stove, which meant shimming the front and leaving one of the feet in the back floating free (so the stove is only supported at 3 points and can easily be tilted backwards into the fireplace). And again, they did no sealing of the damper area or the surround; I can still see daylight at the top of the chimney. I will be fixing these problems myself because I have no desire for them to return and create more work for me. Avoid them at all costs for installation services unless you enjoy re-doing most of what you paid them to do.

Shawn was prompt, efficient and professional. He left no mess for me to clean up. I was very pleased and will use his services again.

I have mixed feelings. He arrived about an hour and a half late. I have to call him to find out where he was. I think the work was adequate. He didn't explain or did anything else. I guess that's what it was for. He was polite but didn't really say much.

Shawn needed to order parts and return for service twice. He was unfamiliar with our gas fireplace. Took a lot longer than we anticipated, 3 1/2 months total and more cost than anticipated.

Shawn arrived a little before the appointment time. He began work immediately. He removed the glass door, the ceramic rocks and the sand. He cleaned the unit and replaced all of the parts. Then he reassembled to glass door. When he left I noted that the flame appeared to cover more of the log which is more visually appealing. He cleaned his work area. I would use Shawn's services again.

He took down information on my fireplace ordered the parts,said he would come back and test to make sure it will work. He called and confirmed address and was an hour early. After the first visit to see what was wrong he never came back and I never heard from him again. No follow up nothing. Not very good service, and unprofessional.

When he was here for the inspection and cleaning we found out we needed a directional cap on the chimney. He came back and did the cap and cleaning and then nothing worked. We called and called and we had a gas problem. Finally he responded that he wouldn't be in the area until March and this was February. In the meantime my husband fixed the problem but we still haven't heard from him.

The scheduling was too far out. I want the work done sooner.

OK, slight misunderstanding about appointment date but Shawn ca me as promised

Hasn't bothered to contact me regarding the deal I purchased.

Didn't take but a few minutes, and nothing seemed to be wrong with it.

They came with hands looking like they had just cleaned a real fireplace. Did not bring drop cloth to set things on, just put everything on the carpet. Needed me to supply glass cleaner and paper towels. Not friendly nor explained what they were going to do. I have light gray carpet and I would have thought they would have covered there boots. Had to use the bathroom almost as soon as they came. Totally not professional. Or worth the money. I spent more time cleaning afterwards than the total time they spent here,

He came as he promised and he took a look up in my chimney with a flashlight and said there was no build up in there, so he swept up the little bit of soot that fell and he left. He did not go on my roof or anything, so I essentially paid him for doing no work. The price would've been fair if he did the work.

The provider did not put me on his schedule despite the messaging stating we were scheduled. The provider was unreachable by phone for another 80 minutes and did not provide service. Will not be using in the future.

He had to order an odd-sized cover for the second flue and that took a little longer than I think it should have. He wasn’t really good about getting back until I called him. Then the part was in and he came down and did it. The result was very satisfactory, but it took longer than I think it should have.

Responded to EMail request in a timely manner. Arrived at the designated time. Spread a covering in front of the fireplace to minimize dust and debris. Service was performed in a reasonable time frame. I had requested a quote on a new insert for my pellet stove, but they did not call back. They were polite and professional.

The appointment went fine, turned out my fireplace was not damaged as I thought, so I appreciated the clean-up and knowing it was safe to use as it was intended.

We've had some issues with it staying lit. There was poor communication on their part. I provided the 3 dates to have this scheduled, when I purchased the Big Deal. They came back a couple days later and asked could they schedule this a week later than what we had initially requested. I replied on the 20th and confirmed that one of the 2 dates would work. On the 26th, I reached out to him again. Ten days later, he finally responded and confirmed a date. I said that would work and provided my phone number, as requested. I've yet to hear from him. I called Angie's List to get a refund.

I have had problems since the beginning. He never attempted to contact me for anything. I had to contact him for everything. He showed up yesterday and took the screen off the fireplace and then told me he couldn’t perform the service. Didn't act in a professional manner.

On time and great job! My gas fireplace had not worked in a few years and Shawn found the problem and fixed it! My fur babies and I are very happy!

The guy was two hours late. He said he tried calling, but had the wrong phone number so when he got to my house, he was in a bad mood. I called the company and they informed me that the kao wool should not have been removed. I am disappointed with him.

Shawn was very prompt answering my initial phone call and getting out for an estimate. He cleaned all 3 chimneys on the first visit, Aug 18, and we paid half down for the total work to be performed, so he could order parts. He was very careful not to soil the inside of our home, but there was a pile of black soot on the driveway which I cleaned up afterwards. I was also impressed with his business card. Two weeks later he returned with his son to finish the job, which took several hours. That evening, we tried out the new top seal dampers, and I was unhappy with one of them. Shawn had installed a less expensive damper for one of the fireplaces, since that flue was of a smaller size. Also the cable length was a bit too long, so I couldn't get that particular damper to seal well. I was also worried because the damper did not have a spark arrester, but Shawn said the top cap would act as one. Shawn said he would eventually be back in our area again and replace the damper when he could. I called him several times, but he would not schedule a firm date. It took him 2 months to return, but he did exchange the damper with the one I had requested, at no charge. He is an honest man.
