Shawn's Chimney Sweeps & Stove Co

I called the owner, he answers the phone at the business, and he recommended a full cleaning and inspection. He said they could come out in two weeks, which worked well. He told me that the appointment would be between 9-11 am. We were called at 9 am letting us know they were running late. We got a few more calls through out the day, they didn't show until 4 pm. When they arrived one technician was very rude and insulting to the other. They only cleaned the firebox and did not do a safety inspection. I called the owner and let him know of the service issue he promised it would rectified the next day. The next day the technician called saying he'd be down from SF to re-clean the chimney. The technician was the son of the owner. This time he spent some time cleaning out the chimney, re-cleaned the firebox and performed a safety inspection. He also went though the options if we wanted to get a pellet or wood-burning insert. I only wish that we would have received this level of service the first time.

Completed the job in 12 minutes. Then he made the ridiculous statement that they normally charge $165 for that service. As if I couldn't figure out on my own that, for a basically unskilled labor task (in the way it was performed, anyway), he was telling me that he was worth an hourly rate that was totally out of this world. The fireplace and chimney did not have a lot of buildup. Given that, the job he did was probably OK, although I don't know what teh chimney looked like inside when he was finished. He didn't leave any tell-tale marks of soot or grime in the house, which was good.

They were in and out quickly (maybe in just a half hour). They showed exactly when they said they would and did a good job. I would have liked a little feedback about the condition of the chimney, though, whether that is a report or a call.

Removed cap from 8" diam. chimney pipe; reamed out chimney with a scrauny brush. Thoroughly cleaned the wood-burning stove. Worked quickly.

It was fine. They did the service shortly after the deal was purchased. They did both for a reduced price.

They were on time, courteous and very careful about cleaning up after themselves.

Showed up on time. Meticulous for covering my carpet so as not to dirty any thing in the living room. Fast,Efficient, and this is the 4 th time I have used Shawn. I think he is the best. He also offers other lines ( fireplace inserts, skylight installation etc.) I recommend his business.

He did not come the first scheduled day and we rescheduled for a week or so later when he did come. what he did was fine. Our chimney was totally clean and he did not have to do anything but show me how it worked. The gas stove was also clean so he did not need to do anything. He did go on the roof and looked at both chimneys but did not need to do anything to them. We had a coupon for $69 for the wood stove and then where charged $58. for the gas stove. We were disappointed to be charged full price for the second chimney since he had not needed to do an cleaning of either chimney or stove..

Everything went fine. My only gripe was that when I was making an appointment they would not honor the price for a weekend cleaning, which is way more convenient for me. I suggest that limits, such as weekdays only, be included in the "deal" so all facts are before the buyer before purchasing. Since I had already purchased the "deal" I had no choice but to take off work.

They were in and out quickly, and everything was spotless when they left.

Shawn's swept the chimney and inspected the brick and mortar work and the flue. He gave a written report as part of the receipt. He was very clean and careful with surrounding furniture, art, etc.

The two chimney sweeps arrived at the appointment time and started working right away. They were efficient and cleaned up afterwards. What was uncomfortable was how one of the sweeps treated the other sweep -- he was disparaging, impatient, and, frankly, rude to his co-worker. I expect professionals to refrain from using profanity in front of their customers. One would also expect a chimney sweep to resist the impulse to sit down in a fabric-covered chair after finishing the job. That was a bit of a mess for us to clean up. I would use their services again, but with a bit more professionalism this company could move toward an "A" rating overall.

The service was performed in a timely manner with professionalism. It did not take very long and they took care of everything and left no dirt or mess behind. It would have been nice to know how much soot and tar had accumulated as it had been five years since we had cleaning done. I would use this service again.

They arrived on time for the appointment and they did a great job. They were very efficient and explained in detail what he found and what I should be looking for in the future. They cleaned up well after themselves. Two crew members showed up and it took 45 minutes to complete the work.

His son came with an assistant. They promptly did the work and made suggestions about chimney caps.

They were able to contact me to get everything scheduled. They did everything professionally and timely. I would highly recommend them. I inspected after they were finished, and my chimney was spotless. Two technicians arrived and it took about 30-40 minutes to complete the work. They suggested other work to be done but I may have to use them at a later date. We had a great time and they are excellent people to work with.

Son of Shawn provided service. He complained he was covered in soot all day. Charged us about $20 extra because he claimed our chimney was very dirty. Said we should have our chimney swept every year. We have not had any problems with our chimney in the 4 years we've lived in this home, but we had our chimney swept because we thought we ought to! Left a 6 inch smudge mark on our carpet.

Showed up on time, went right to work, no chitchat until job was finished, then was friendly and personable. Explained what was done. Left area spic and span, no ash anywhere outside of fireplace. Would use this company (Ian and helper) again.

Shawn's son Ian performed the work and he was at my house before I was. Ian had his equipment setup and as soon as I cleared out the dogs, he was ready to go. Ian was polite and courteous and he was finished within about 20 minutes. Very quick, very efficient and was very pleasant. He advised I had one issue that my flue doesn't close the whole way and that I'm probably going to need to get that fixed. I asked him a few questions and he was more than educated enough to answer and point me in a good direction for the future. There were no pressure tactics on selling, he just advised that they perform said services and I was very pleased. I don't see why I wouldn't hire them in the future.

The cleaners arrived a few minutes earlier than the appointment, which was fine with me. The came to the door, introduced themselves, then returned with their equipment. They laid out a tarp to catch the soot in the air, and set the shop vac inside the fireplace to catch the falling soot, of which there was a lot! The whole job took about 30 minutes and they cleaned up before they left, leaving it much cleaner than it was!

Shawn and a helper showed up on time. They set up a tarp below the fireplace to keep the area clean. Shawn went up on the roof while the helper cleaned up at the fireplace. The whole process took only 15-20 minutes. Quick and efficient!

They were actually a little early, very professional worked quickly and cleanly and answered all my questions professionally.In addition to the prepaid Angie's list chimney cleaning they installed a chimney cap at my request and inspected the flu for condition. I am very satisfied with the services provided by Ian.

Two young men showed up at my house and did the work. They arrived late, but did call beforehand. They were young and probably were working for the owner of this business (their Father). They were in a hurry the whole time they were there. I had two additional fireplaces to do and they were "late" they said to their next job. They arrived 11:45 and left at 1:10,,,,a little less than an 1-1/2 hours. My bill for this was $475.00,,,,I thought it was high even though I got the Angie's List special on two of the fireplaces. When I asked about the size of the bill, I was told that ",,,,it would have been more if my dad was here doing the job". Last complaint concerned the fact that my wife saw them dumping their vacuum from the previous job I guess behind some trees on my property. Didn't ask,,,,

Cleaning was done from inside the house and he did a good job putting down covers to protect the floor. There was no mess or residue inside of the house.

In town asked a contractor friend for his suggestion for who I should use for chimney sweeping. He said he only uses Shawn Chimney Sweep in Santa Fe. So I booked him. He showed up but about an hour late. He did call me to tell me he was running late at least. It didn't take nearly as long as I figured it would. The Chimney looked very clean when he was done...and all done from the inside of the house.
