We gave Paul Williams $50,000 up front to do demolition and repair to our roof after a devastating fire. We wanted him to do our whole house in $50k increments and this first installment was his test. He said he would do the whole job in full before requesting g money for the next phase. He hired drunk workers wobbling on the roof amongst other ne’er do wells stumbling around our property with their dogs. He had trouble hiring and keeping his subs and would complain to us, like , “can you believe these losers?” As if he wasn’t responsible for hiring them. In the end he demanded more money for the unfinished job and we said no, not until it’s done. He left the job and was unresponsive to our calls, emails or messages. I wish I could post pictures, it is unbelievable the mess he made and the poor quality of the work done, and the expensive scope of work left undone. He must have kept at 30,000 profit for himself. We are considering suing but he probably doesn’t have any money.

It went very well. Paul Williams came when he said he would, looked over the job and quoted a price. He came the next day to do the work (even though it was HOT). It was all done in a day, although his crew returned the next day to touch up. (He did not have to do the interior work around the skylight.) I was very pleased. He was knowledgeable, professional and personable.

We worked on a time and materials basis. The overall cost of the work came in below the "fixed price" estimate. Paul Williams, the principal, was punctual, didn't waste any time, did very satisfactory work, was very pleasant and professional, and was very flexible throughout to my input and to my assisting with the work. I look forward to working with him again (we have another job planned) and anyone considering engaging him for a job is welcome to come see the work he did for us.
Description of Work: The provider (i) installed a new railing on a landing and series of steps leading down to a patio, (ii) installed new railings on either side of steps leading down from a deck to that patio, (iii) rebuilt a portal over a portion of that patio, and (iv) replaced Vigas used as support posts for a portal adjoining the one that was rebuilt. The approximate cost of the service included all materials and labor.

Paul Williams, owner of Desert Sun Builders, supervised his workers constructing a Stucco Wall for me in front of my house, creating a courtyard. I had wanted an authentic old-fashioned stucco wall, and he and his workers did a fine job of building exactly what I had hoped for. He was able to listen to and understand my original ideas for the wall, and when needed, he added his input and suggestions. It was obvious his construction skills were extensive (from making a rebar-reinforced level foundation for the wall, to having the wall covered with stucco that was a perfect match to the house color). He and his workers did a great job at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: Built authentic stucco wall with various levels and curved corners and installed gate.

He had very two capable men with him, he worked in worste of the weather. Had many years of experience, very consistant. Really kept at it even when the elements were still nasty. He was also very creative.
Description of Work: I suspected leaks in my roof and needed an inspection of my roof. He ended up tearing off the flat roof to rebuild, replacing the soffit, replaced the flashing, and did a number of other things in regards to the siding and roofing of the house. Also, he applied metal over all facia to match the color.

Communication with the builder was very good at each step. He was detail oriented, flexible, and accommodating of minor alterations along the way. When we deferred decision-making regarding some details to him, the choices he made reflected good judgement and experience. The project came together just as described. He used excellent subcontractors for concrete work, framing, roofing, and stucco finish - all professional and polite. We would use him again for future projects.
Description of Work: Built a large permanent back-yard shed to be used for storage and workshop space. Helped locate a large granite kitchen island countertop and to prepare for installation.
