Description of Work: Did not fix drip in tub - left it full of dirt. Claimed to replace inserts on hot and cold, but still leaked. Set up appointment (between 2-4pm), arrived at 5:45. Called another plumber, fixed what they claimed to have replaced, arrived on time and charged less. Very happy with Cypress B. Plumbing & Heating!

Description of Work: Gabriel Loma(something or another) came out to troubleshoot the heater core of my upstairs heating unit. He ran a CO test that showed leakage. He broke the heating element of the heater so it could not be used as he supposedly had to "red tag" it. Wanted to charge me $5k to relplace the entire unit. I called TLC for 2nd opinion and they found that the venting cap on top of the house had loosened and stopped the ventilation process. They fixed that issue and what Carwrights had broken for $250. I tried to get reimbursed from Gabe and he refused to proceed. TLC also ran the CO test and found no leakage! Very interesting! Never again will I use this company.

Cartwright techniciens never measured theair pressure in the supply duct but measured the humidity generatet by two room humidifiers I bought which are running 24 hours per day on account of the bronchial problems of my wive. Cartwright refuses to take the Honeywell humidifier back and refund the purchasing price and cost of the small claims court, total $ 2'509.69.
Description of Work: Installation of a Honeywell whole house humidifier in decmber 2009. Due to the incompetence of the cartwright technicians the humidifier has never worked properly. Likely reason is to high air pressure in the supply duct, exceedinig Honeywell's warranty value of 0.5 inch wc. The forced air heating unit is grossly oversized and generates a correspondingly high air pressure in the supply duct.

They seem to know what they are doing. They seem competent and confident. They are expensive compared to other places here in Santa Fe. On the negative side, I would have expected them to follow up more after looking at our radiant heating system here. I trust the work, I just think they're expensive.
Description of Work: Cartwright's Plumbing Heating checked out our radiant heating system. They gave us an estimate to do repairs on it. We used them for some minor plumbing, fixing faucets and things like that. I used them for my other house. They connected the ventilation from the range hood through the roof and they vented my dryer.

They were late to the first appointment by several hours and did not give adequate warning. When the repairs failed after two days they came back and again were late after cancelling the first revisit appointment. They charged additional money for the revisit claiming the problems were different than we first complained about. The second repair attempt failed after 1 day and resulted in water leaking on the bathroom floors. I called them again and asked for a 50% refund, but they insisted they had to come back to my house. I told them I did not want them back in my house again, and asked to speak to a manager or supervisor. They said one would get back to me, but after three calls, they never did. I wound up replacing the toilets myself at far less cost than they charged to repair them...and guess what -I'm having no problems. These guys failed on honesty, service, price, and quality. True four time losers.

It went well. The technician was on time, was professional. He made two follow-up calls to make sure the condenser was not leaking. They do a good job, I just wish it didn't cost an arm and a leg. If Cartwright's had not installed the furnace, I would have called someone more reasonably priced to look at it. Under my particular circumstances, I thought it best to call the company from whom I'd purchased the unit and who had installed it as well.
Description of Work: They came to look at the furnace and the condenser attached. Some water from the condenser had wicked its way underneath the wood flooring outside the utility closet. The technician was professional and on time. He checked everything out and pointed out a problem with the piping in the closet. Some PVC was too close to a hotter metal pipe. The heat had actually caused a brown burn spot on the white plastic pipe. He said the whole piping configuration should be changed and quoted me a price. It was expensive. Very expensive. I elected just to watch the situation. One problem that I have with his suggestion is that the piping configuration is Cartwright's. Five years ago, I bought the furnace from Cartwright's and had them install it, piping and condenser included. If there's a problem with the piping configuration or where the condenser is place, then I think Cartwright's should change it and not charge me. This company (different technician) installed everything as the guy they sent out in February 2013 found it. If there's a problem, then it's b/c of the way a Cartwright's technician installed everything in the first place. Of course, he wasn't going to go for this idea, although I'm sure he was smart enough to see my logic under the circumstances. He put some distance between the pipes for me, checked the condenser for leakage (found none) and serviced the furnace generally.

We had been having some issues with our boiler (hot water baseboard), with our regular plumbing service replacing a thermostat that had failed. After this initial service, we began having some issues over the holiday weekend with excessive water noise in our piping system. The overflow valve started leaking as well. We contact our regular plumber, however his voicemail notified us that he was out on vacation through the end of the year. We then contacted Cartwrights, mainly for the overflow valve issue, and due to the time of year and day (Sunday) were charged an emergency service call of an additional $50. The technician who promptly came to the house was friendly and accommodating . He told us the problem was in the hyrdo thermostat causing steam in our pipes, and the part would neeed to be replaced. He came back the following morining and replaced it, with a total charge of $800. After he left we still had noise in the pipes, though not as severe. We contacted our regular plumbing service after the holiday who came out to look, telling us that the noise was actually being caused by the system needing to be purged, which he performed. It also required the lines being bled, to remove excess air in the system. Though he was reluctant to say, it is doubtfull that the hydro thermostat needed to be replaced, rather the system needed to be adjusted with temperature and a purge- a cost of a service call ($100 max.). However, since we didn;t keep the part we cannot be sure if this is accurate. Lesson learned? It is difficult to determine the right route to take when you are in an emergency situation- we were afraid that the system might 'blow' given the noise in the pipes (it was loud) and the leak in the overflow valve. It was a Sunday, and there was little else to do but wait until after the holiday to contact our regular service. As you can read, Cartwright's responded quickly, however we were at their mercy to believe their prognosis and pay their fees. Next time? We'd keep the part and have it examined to determine if it really needed to be replaced. However, we still would most likely be obliged to pay their high fees, regardless.
Description of Work: Fast service but be prepared to pay top dollar!

We called in June because the AC quit working. They said it was a bad part and replaced it, but a week later it still wasn't working, this went on for several visits, it would work for a while and then stop. When they came out all of the work and parts were guaranteed for a year, so we didn't want to pay someone again to come out to fix something that they were supposed to correct for free. Long story short - they basically replaced every part of the AC and then told us that the existing unit was too small for the size of our house and we would need to replace the existing with a bigger model. While we did get other bids on the new AC which were comparable, we had to stay with them because of the credits they gave us for work already done, otherwise I would have been out 3k which I could not afford. They charged a fee to come up to Los Alamos every time. They told me that they would be there on a certain date so I took time off of work and then they called to say that they couldn't make it because they got tied up on another job It seemed as though they were doing a quick fix instead of trying to solve the problem right the first time and they did not give the impression that I was just as important as any other client Our initial visit was in June and our issue was not resolved to my satisfaction until September I don't think it should have taken as long as it did to eventually solve the problem and the experience left me with a feeling I had been taken
Description of Work: Took 3 months to actually solve the problem and by then we had too much invested to move to a different company

Overall, the experience was very poor. With the $50 show up fee, and performing only 5 minutes of work, requiring no replacement parts or anything, I was expecting to pay about $100 to $150. The $260 bill was outrageous. Will never use them again, even in an emergency. Especially in an emergency. I feel they took advantage of the situation.
Description of Work: They were a half hour late in coming to fix our heater. The fix for the heater was simple and only took 5 minutes. Because it was Sunday, they told me they would charge a $50 show up fee. Which was fine. They ended up charging me $260 dollars for five minutes work. Total rip off. Would never use them again.

The air conditioning started failing the day I brought my husband home from the hospital from a complete knee replacement. He was miserable and making me so. I called all over town, got nothing but answering machines, but when I called Cartrights, i got a human voice, a technician arrived within 2 hours, and the problem was resolved within an hour. I am grateful and impressed.
Description of Work: They responded when I called on a Saturday. I left messages at several other places that never replied. They came within an hour, found the problem in 20 minutes, fixed it in 30, and were gone in less than an hour. We were so impressed, we signed up for a service contract. They're good, prompt, and worth the expense because they know what they are doing. The $500 charge includes the service contract for the following year.

I had a bad experience with them. I wouldn’t use them again. They got another company out to fix the shower which started leaking because they had installed the unit upside down. They said they do a lot of work to do over things that Cartwright did. They are not competent. Their price was reasonable for the work they did, but they did some work that they didn’t need to do. I would never use them.

Listed above in detail... Use Cartwright's for emergencies, but not when you can plan the repair. You can find many other companies or independent plumbers who can do the work well for much less money.
Description of Work: We had just moved to Santa Fe, and knew nobody, had no sources for referrals. Our next door neighbor gave us the name of his handyman when we mentioned that our shower faucet dripped. We had his handyman in to tighten a slightly dripping faucet in our master shower. He broke the faucet off, and water was shooting out of the open hole. The handyman turned off the water in the house and left. Looking in the phone book, we called Cartwright's Plumbing in SF for an emergency plumbing repair. They responded immediately. Their plumber said that he had to replace the entire faucet body in the shower, but that he had the necessary model in his truck. He replaced the faucet within an hour. He was very prompt, polite, and professional, but he charged us $750 for the repair!! And we gave HIM a tip for his work. We have since heard from many people that Cartwright's is truly the most EXPENSIVE plumbing company in town, but they will come quickly in emergencies. Just be prepared to pay the price. Unfortunately, the final price--that was never estimated before the repair/replacement began-- was so high and exorbitant, that it left a nasty reminder for us of Cartwright, and we have never used them again.

The tech was prompt at arriving, noticed that the water heater did not have a shut off and proceded to drain it with the gas and water still on. He said it was ok for it and was good because the running water would stir up the sediment and allow it to drain. He drained it twice both times with water and gas running. He also took down the information he needed for the central air estimate and check the area where I thought I might have a shower leak. I ended paying 125,00 for the maintenance on the waterheater, 45.00 trip charge AND 8.00 Fuel charge (which is what I thought the trip charge was) plus tax. He did not indicate that the waterheater had any issues. In fact, he said it was in real good condition and must have been recently installed (I've only been in the house 2 years.). On 4/6, I noticed water on the floor by the wall next to the waterheater closet. I opened the door and the PCV outlet was leaking hot water. I called Cartwright and the woman who answered said there is no way the draining of the waterheater could have done anything to the pressure (I told her how it was done). She said she would have the tech call me. He did call promptly and said he noticed the calcium on the outlet and warned me that because there was no shutoff, if I tried to release the pressure, I might not be able to close the valve again due to any calcium buildup. He apologized for not doing something about it and said he would come later that evening to fix it (on his own time) and only charge a small fee. I expressed concerns because I had to put towels down to sop up the water and did not want to start a fire. He said it would be OK until he got here later that evening. No show... in the mean time I fixed the problem my self. Then on the 8th I got the estimate in the mail. They provided an estimate for a installing a new furnace as well as the other two jobs (remember I was asking for an estimate to install central air). Anyway, NO WAY would I use them again.
Description of Work: I had them come out to perform maintenance on my waterheater. Nothing was wrong with it, I just wanted the normal yearly maintenance (draining, expection, etc). Since it is propane and I am new to propane, I did not want to attempt it myself (the first time). I also wanted an estimate on installing central air and cleaning the ducks and checking and fixing a possible leak from my shower. They would not give me an estimate for the waterheater maintenance since they said there could be calcuim build up that would need to be cleaned. They did let me know that there was a 45.00 trip charge just to come out.

This plumbing service is reliable and professional -- and they have been part of Santa Fe for over 60 years. We have a friend who even used them for an emergency on Christmas Eve. Cartwrights may be a business to use when you have a major repair to your heating and/or plumbing. But we think there must be a more reasonably-priced plumbing option in Santa Fe for smaller projects. Also, we had Cartwrights look at our 20 year old boiler and water heater. We wanted to have our old boiler de-rated and they said they could not do it and recommended we purchase a new boiler. However, the next plumber who came to visit our home (Drysdale Plumbing) was able to de-rate our boiler and said it was a great boiler and not to worry about replacing it. He said we had a boiler that has few parts and is easy to fix when/if it breaks down.
Description of Work: We called Cartwrights to fix our toilet (excessive running/wouldn't stop running) and we set up an appointment and the plumber showed up on time. However, their pricing is very high. It took the plumber about 15 minutes to fix our toilet and the cost was over $200. Just for coming to your home the upfront cost is $155. Given these economic times, the charge seems excessive.

This was a couple years ago - we have a duplex and one water heater broke, Since we had a renovation planned within 6 months we didnt' want to invest too much. Cartwrights quoted $1500 to replace the water heater, When asked if we could just run a line from the other heater until they were both removed with the renovation, they quoted the same $1500 for that option. We did not use their services, but called Payless Plumbing...they couldn't come as quickly but were able to run a line for just a couple hundred dollars that let us get by until the renovation.
Description of Work: I paid $75 for travel costs for them to come up from Santa Fe to give an estimate.

They company responded quickly and professionally to my urgent request for help. The plumber showed up 30 minutes after I called, did some work on the hot water heater and isolated the leak in the yard. He then showed up on time the next morning with a laborer who dug up the entire main line to the street. Too many other pipes and lines nearby to use a backhoe. He dug for two days non-stop through cold and snow, a human backhoe! The plumber helped him on the second day and they successfully found and sealed off the leak. The plumber himself was very nice, diligent and reliable. He even agreed to repair my boiler during that time, another job description. They then refilled the long hole in the snow toward dusk, so the refill itself was fairly sloppy, my only small complaint.

The estimator did not arrive on either the agreed day or time, but when he did show up he was courteous and professional. Based on that good impression I chose Cartwright's for the work and provided my credit card number for the 50% deposit. I was assured the work would be completed in one day. It was a totally different experience when the installer came to do the work, on a Friday. He was able to install the new hot water heater, but at 2:30pm announced that he did not have the necessary parts to complete the installation of the new boiler, was leaving and would return Monday. Not only did he leave me without heat for the weekend, he left a considerable mess for me to clean up. The installer returned on Monday and got the boiler working, but did not install the new thermostats or the plumbing for the additional zone. Nevertheless he declared the job completed and requested payment of the 50% balance. This was refused owing to the non-completion of the contracted work, to which the installer responded that they had my credit card number and would charge it anyway. The installer was then explicitly directed NOT to charge my credit card. The installer then left, leaving another big mess behind. The installer told Cartwright's billing that the job was complete and my credit card WAS charged contrary to my instructions. This unauthorized charge caused my credit card to be denied temporarily, and required several phone calls to the credit card company to straighten out. I called Cartwright's to complain and they promised to reverse the unauthorized charge to my credit card and to send the installer back for a 3rd visit on the following Friday to complete the contracted work. The installer did come back, and completed the thermostat installation and addition of the plumbing for a new heating zone, but failed to bleed air out of the heating system. I was so frustrated with Cartwright's by that time that I bled the system myself. As far as I can tell both heating and hot water are running properly. In retrospect it is clear that the estimator did not communicate to the installer what work had to be done and what parts would be needed. This turned a one day job into a three-day job, putting me at a considerable inconvenience. The installer did not complete the work, made a big mess on each of the first two visits and charged my credit card before the work was complete. This was contrary to my direct instructions and causing me further inconvenience. I do not recommend this company, but if you must deal with them, do NOT give them a credit card number.
Description of Work: Cartwright's installed a replacement boiler for baseboard hot water heating and a replacement hot water heater in my home. In addition they added plumbing for a new zone to the boiler and installed new programmable thermostats (4 zones). An estimate for the work was provided, which included costs for hauling away the old boiler and old hot water heater and bleeding air out of the new system. Terms of the contract were; 50% deposit, with balance due on completion of the work.
