AMERICAN HOME

On two separate occasions, I attempted to purchase an entire bedroom suite from American Home in Santa Fe. On the first attempt, the salespeople were getting ready for a sale--putting up signs, re-marking prices, etc--and no one waited on me, so I left my business card with someone at what appeared to be a sales desk and asked that someone call me when they were available. I had already picked out everything I needed, all I needed was to place the order and pay. A few days later, someone called back and explained how busy they all were getting ready for the big sale and would I come back in. I did and nothing had changed. When I finally got someone's attention, she told me to go wait by what I wanted to buy and she'd get over to me in a little while. Another person came in behind me and she waited on him first. After an hour--I was on a lunch hour--I went to the front again and repeated the business card routine. This time, the sales person came up to apologize to me. I handed her the furniture brochure and said that was the suite I wished to purchase. She called my office, apologized again, and I gave her the exact manufacturer item numbers I wanted. All I needed to know to close the sale is whether or not the manufacturer still made the bed frame in a California King. She said she would check. Later she called to give me her work schedule. It's been a couple of weeks and it seems I cannot give away what I estimate to be at least $5,000. I even asked her to order the Sterns & Foster mattress at the same time to save me some time. The mattress alone, as I learned today from Mattress Firm, is a $3,500 purchase. All in all, American Home probably ignored a $10,000 sale. I am happy they are doing so well. My husband and I are considering a similar set at twice the price from Pottery Barn, even want to purchase locally. We bought the mattress at Mattress Firm this morning.
