The roof is fine. There was one incident when sparks flew in the skylight and ruined a rug. The replacement value of the rug was subtracted from the balance due. No problem or questions asked.

The work was done largely on schedule and the workers showed up on time. They could have been neater (there were a couple of small places I needed to paint over/have painted over tar stains on the stucco. I had to virtually harrass Joe to get the paint to match my stucco, and he very grudgingly had one of his guys come out and do it. There was a partial language barrier, though, and I ended up doing some of the painting myself (it was just touch up here and there, not a major paint job). Joe Tapia is very difficult to get hold of after the work begins, and is even more difficult to get after it's done. When I went to pay, he wanted 1/2 of the cost written out to Alegre, the other half to him personally. This part of the experience echoes another review on this list. At the time it did not seem odd, but in retrospect, it was. I am copying this next part from another review and editing because my experience was nearly identical: Joe promised annual maintenance checks on the roof. He completely reneged on/ignored the annual maintenance. I left several messages and he never called back. Out of principle alone, i wanted him to followup, but that never happened. I also got a warranty, but I am suspicious of it given how tough Joe is to catch on the phone and how loathe he seems to have contact after payment..... Having said all that, the roofing job seems to be fine; I have gone through two winters and 1.5 summers and all is okay--I believe they did a good job. However, I left the transaction feelng uncertain about what I had just paid for....that is (obviously) very subjective and perhaps paranoid, so take it for what it is worth. i've switched roofers since, but it is tough to get a good roofer in SF.

The main job of replacing the roof went fine. The men were thorough and careful in their work. I didn't climb up on the roof myself to check the work, but others who did said it was a solid job. That was a number of years ago, and we've had no problems at all with the roof. I suspect there may be other roofing contractors who charge less, but we were willing to pay more for reliable work. The new roof came with a 10-year warranty. A provision of the warranty was a free annual inspection, and touch-up of any small fixes needed. That has proven to be a bit of a problem. Each year in September I start trying to call the company to arrange for the annual inspection. I usually have to call numerous times. I never reach a live person, and have to leave voice mail, which more often than not isn't returned. Eventually, through perseverance, I finally am able to get an inspection done, and when they actually get there, they cheerfully make whatever small repairs are needed. The difficulty in arranging this routine task is the reason for the and quot;Band quot; ratings I have assigned for responsiveness and punctuality. Nonetheless, I can still recommend Alegre Roofing for roof replacement and repair of reliably good quality.

Joe replaced a part of my roof, and then promised annual maintenance checks. He completely renegged on the annual maintenance. I left ~ 6 messages, he refused to call back. When i finally caught him live on the phone, he talked a good game, set up an appointment with me and then was a no-show. Out of principle alone, i wanted him to followup. But we rescheduled 2-3 times before he finally showed up. Obviously, i've switched roofers since.

The overall process went without a hitch. I am very pleased with the results.

I spent about $8500 for their services. I was happy with them. They did a good job. They were punctual and did it when they said it would be done.
