Description of Work: We went in very confused and looking for a bathroom sink and some tile for a backsplash. They were very patient and helpful for us, and we left very pleased with our purchases. We still are pleased.

 + -1 moreI began by going to Vargas Tiles at the recommendation of my contractor, Taos Style Builders. At the end of my first visit, I left with a box of sample tiles to bring back to the house and consider. When I had made several choices, I returned and set about plotting out the layout of the tiles in order to get a pattern which pleased me. I was visiting my Taos second home from NY and my time for choosing was limited, so when I chose something for which the necessary square footage would not be available, I was in a position to alter my design. I believe I ended up with a design that was more interesting due to the necessity of interspersing some different tiles amongst the ones that formed the bulk of the design. All were blue, off-white and terra-cotta colored and the selection was more than adequate. The store has large, plank tables on which one may lay out designs, taking as long as one wants to "play" with the tiles and getting feedback if one wants it. I liked meeting the various family members and the dog on my several visits.
Description of Work: I bought tiles for a new bathroom area including two large tile counters, floors and a steam shower tiled from top to bottom in highly patterned Mexican tiles. It is possible to buy similar tiles elsewhere in Taos but the service which the Vargas family provides is helping with the planning of patterns and square footage so that the bathroom I envisioned is the one that I got. I spent many hours in the shop on several days before I got it right, but I was an artist working out a design. The Vargas family will give you as much help as you need to get what you want. Because their selection is so large, it may take you time to figure out what you want. I was like a kid in a candy store. For people who don't fancy Mexican tiles, there are plenty of other choices and the staff will inform you as to which tiles are appropriate for the location you are planning. (N.B. I could be wrong on the date and price. I don't have that in front of me. My impression is that if the price was slightly higher than some other places, the selection and service were well worth it.)
