Gave us a very fairly priced quote of the work promised, never came to do any of the work and kept promising they would be coming. Thank goodness we never gave them any money in advance.
Description of Work: They gave us an estimate for stucco repair and painting of our house. In fairness to TOP NOTCH, I'm not sure the employee giving us the quote was even still employed by TOP NOTCH.

Overall I feel like part of the crew he used was inexperienced which caused unnecessary damages. Further, he doesn't check on his crew's work as often as he should. If he did we would not be writing this report. The job would have been done properly to begin with. I tried to tell him about these problems as they occurred and couldn't get a reply in a timely manner.
Description of Work: They were hired to renew our stucco and renew all painted surfaces, replace a bathroom window, replace part of the patio roof with rolled roofing. The stucco work on the house was satisfactory. Most of the painting was okay, but they skipped part of the paint job and just completed it in March 2011. When they replaced part of the patio roof they threw the rolled roofing onto the roof so hard it caused cracks in the sheetrock on the patio ceiling, and pulled the nails loose. They finally repaired the cracked seams and painted March 2011. They replaced a bathroom window and broke the seal as well as bent the frame of the new $600.00 window during installation by hammering 16 penny nails through the jamb. The window frame is bent and needs to be replaced along with the glass. It sweats every time we take a shower because of this. They still have not replaced the window. He claims he can't find a replacement. He doesn't return phone calls and doesn't show up when he says he will. I would never trust him or his company again.

Came out quickly to survey, full of promises. But it took a report to the BBB to get them back. Work was atrocious using poorly-qualified help. Management was equally incompetent. Absolutely the worst I have ever seen.
Description of Work: Some warranty work - stucco cracking; some new work - roof repair.

Each time I requested they honor their guarantee, I had trouble getting the work completed. I kept calling and I was told Albert would return my call, but most of the time he didn't. He would promise that his workmen would be there the next day and they wouldn't show up. They would come and patch the cracks and then not return for weeks, leaving an ugly white base coat in blotches on my house. In the fall of 2006 I was so annoyed that I made a report to the Better Business Bureau. This time, 2010, I called and called for them to finish up (weeks of no painting with the huge white spots all over the house !) I finally went to the address given on the business card, which turned out to be Albert's home. I asked him to please get the job completed. So he made a phone call to one of his workers who he blamed for not following up to be sure the job was done. Within a couple of hours some men came and slapped some paint on. However, they did a very poor job. They promised to get new paint that would match, but they used old left-over paint which has left obvious streaks and uneven color on the house. You can see where they just did a quickie job so that they could say they did it.
Description of Work: The original work was done in Sept. 2004. It was a complete stucco and repair job. The contract specifications were that they would patch and repair all damaged stucco walls, cap and seal (water proof) parapets, apply 2 coats of sto elastomeric coating. This stucco job has a guarantee for 10 years against any spliting, chipping, peeling, flaking, or cracking. In October of 2006 the stucco was cracking badly, so I called Top Notch to come make the repairs under their guarantee. In April of 2010 I noticed more cracks and problems, so called them again. The work was not completed until June 25th, 2010.

ON JUNE 02, 2008 NO ONE SHOWED UP TO BEGIN WORK. AFTER CONTACTING TOP NOTCH THAT DAY 2 WORKERS SHOWED UP JUNE 03 TO POWER WASH AND START MASKING WOOD AND DOORS. THEY WERE THERE 1 1/2 HOURS, LEFT WITH THAT JOB NOT COMPLETED. THE REST OF THE WEEK I CALLED EVERYDAY TO SEE WHERE WORKERS WERE---EVERY DAY I WOULD RECEIVE SAME COMMENT "OH, THERE ARE NO WORKERS THERE." THEN I WOULD BE GIVEN THE RUN AROUND SAYING "LET ME CALL SAL OR LET ME CALL STEVE AND CHECK TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON. AND AT ONE POINT STEVE EVEN SAID "DEAR, WE WILL GET THE WORK DONE", WHICH I FOUND VERY CONDESCENDING, BUT I DID NOT COMMENT. I CHALKED IT UP TO POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES, AND LACK OF TRAINING. ON JUNE 09 I CALLED AND ASKED FOR THE OWNER ALBERT ORDUNEZ, WAS TOLD HE WAS NOT IN. I ADVISED THE RECEPTIONIST THAT I WOULD BE AT THERE BUSINESS AT 9:30 A.M TO PICK UP A CHECK FOR $1917.00 MADE OUT TO ME. WHICH WOULD REPRESENT THE RETURN OF MY DEPOSIT. WITH IN 10 MINUTES ALBERT ORDUNEZ WAS CALLING ME TO ASSURE ME HE WAS GOING TO SUPERVISE MY JOB PERSONALLY AND THAT ALL WORK WOULD BE COMPLETED BY JUNE 13, 2008. I TOLD HIM AT THE TIME "ALBERT I AM TAKING YOU ON YOUR WORD THAT THIS WILL GET DONE". BUT WHEN I WENT TO THE UNIT ON APRIL 14 THE WINDOWS/DOORS WERE ALL MASKED OFF, DEBRIS ALL AROUND THE FRONT DOOR. A REAR PATIO WALL AND CHIMNEY HAD NOT HAD ONE COAT OF PAINT. THE CEMENT WORK HAD BEEN DONE TO TILES. BUT THE WHOLE UNIT DID NOT EVEN HAVE ONE COAT OF PAINT COMPLETED. ON THURSDAY STEVE DOMINGUEZ HAD CALLED AND SAID WORKERS WOULD BE THERE ON SATURDAY TO PAINT TRIM AND GARAGE DOORS. HE HAD TO KNOW AT THAT POINT THE WORK WAS NOT GOING TO GET DONE---I FEEL HE LIED ON PURPOSE---IN FACT I FELT I HAD BEEN LIED TO THE WHOLE TIME, THEY REALIZED AT SOME POINT ON THURSDAY OR FRIDAY THE WORK WAS NOT GOING TO GET DONE--IN FACT NOT ONE WORKER SHOWED UP TO WORK ON SATURDAY AT ALL. BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON ONE WORKER DID SHOW UP TO COLLECT WHAT HE CALLED HIS PERSONAL TARPS (HE TOLD ME THEY DID NOT BELONG TO TOP NOTCH) I GAVE HIM THE TARPS. THIS WORKER CAME TO THE UNIT ABOUT 45 MINUTES AFTER I TOLD STEVE DOMINGUEZ NOT TO EVEN TRY TO SHOW UP ON MONDAY (SLIM CHANCE OF THAT ANYWAYS) AND THAT THEY WERE FIRED. ALSO TOLD STEVE I WAS NOT TO PAY THEM ONE MORE CENT. ON MONDAY I RECEIVED A CALL FROM SOME OTHER 3RD GUY I HAD NEVER SPOKEN TO BEFORE ASKING IF I WOULD COME IN AND SIGN A RELEASE OF CONTRACT, ALSO THE RECEPTIONIST CALLED AND ASKED ME COME IN AND SIGN. I TOLD THEM I WOULD NOT DO THAT. I HAVE NOT SPOKEN TO THEM SINCE. BUT FEEL THIS COMPANY IS NOT ONE TO DO BUSINESS WITH. THEY WORK AT THEIR OWN PACE, AND LIE TO CUSTOMERS JUST TO KEEP THE MONIES. THE WORK IS NOT THAT GOOD, [AVERAGE] I SPENT MANY HOURS WITH MINERAL SPIRITS TAKING SPLATTERED PAINT OFF OF THE BLACK FRONT SECURITY DOOR. I TELL EVERYONE I KNOW ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE WITH TOP NOTCH EXTERIORS!
Description of Work: ON APRIL 21, 2008 CONTRACTED AND PAID HALF $1917.00 TO HAVE EXTERIOR OF RENTAL CONDO UNIT [STUCCO TYPE FINISH], POWER WASHED, CRACKS REPAIRED AND ENTIRE UNIT PAINTED WITH 2 COATS, (INCLUDING TRIM AND GARAGE DOOR). PLUS SOME CEMENT WAS TO BE PLACED AROUND SOME ROOFING CLAY TILES. WORK WAS TO BEGIN JUNE 02, 2008 AND LAST ONE WEEK. I ALLOWED TWO WEEKS FOR WORK TO BE COMPLETED AND BLOCKED OFF UNIT AS UNAVAILABLE FOR RENT. THIS WAS THE WORK TO BE PERFORMED. IT WAS NOT ALL DONE!
