Description of Work: They removed our panels so we could re-roof our house and then they re-installed them and added more panels. |Also, they kept some new panels of the same design as our original panels in their inventory so it wouldn't look like a an add-on with the additional panels. Everything looks the same on our roof. A different solar company wanted to use different panels and it would have looked mis-matched.

 + -1 moreThe job was done very professionally. Every member of the crew was friendly. The foreman on the job took me to the roof to show me some places on the roof that needed attention to prevent leaks. Those spots were far removed from the panels. After the installation I was given a tutorial on all the meters and shown how to read them. The work was completed in two days. They filed the paperwork to the county requesting inspection and start up. I was extremely pleased. One other point to bring up that I should bring up is that from the original contact till the job was completed, Sunspot took care of all the paperwork. At the start of the project, I was given a three-ring binder, and as the project continued, I was given additional material to add to the binder. This company is very well organized and very much customer friendly. When the job was finished, I received all the certificates needed to submit for my federal and state tax credits. Now all I do is conserve electricity as much as possible, and wait for the monthly checks from the electric company

I'd heard two others from other solar panel providers as well as testimonies from co-workers who also had solar panels (not all used Sunspot). The sales pitch succeeded in getting me past the huge up front payment jitters and truly evaluating the return on the investment. They were true to their word about how they would handle the paperwork and coordination with the inspectors and El Paso Electric. Only time will tell if the return on investment proves to be as they said it would be. Sunspot was not the cheapest provider nor the most expensive but I believe that they deliver value and a professional service. I think that the only thing they could have done a little better was to make it clearer that the amount of production that mattered was the amount that came into the REC meter as opposed to out of the panels. There is a difference between what the panels create and what actually gets into the REC meter. Overall, it was a very positive experience and I would recommend them to my mother.
Description of Work: Sales pitch done at my home when they initially came out to provide an estimate. Signed a contract to install solar panels. Sunspot submitted permit request. Sunspot installed panels about one month later. Took two days. City inspected a few days earlier than expected. El Paso Electric inspected a few days earlier than expected. El Paso Electric installed a REC meter a few days later than expected.

 + -1 moreSee the description of services of performed. We have a ground level installation that is unobtrusive and well sited to maximize the solar electricity generated. The Sunspot people put together a book that details every aspect of our solar panel installation so that we have a handy and complete reference of our solar panel installation. I have no doubt that they would make good on their 5 year guarantee and that the solar panel manufacturer would do the same (25 yr guarantee) should the need arise. We have told Sunspot that we are happy to serve as a reference and will be happy to have interested parties "tour" our installation.
Description of Work: Sunspot gave us an estimate and installed 24 solar panels that were American made, arranged for all inspections, did all the necessary wiring and gave us clear effective information for getting paid from El Paso Electric and for getting Federal and New Mexico tax credits for solar energy installation. They were honest, the work crew was expert and efficient, the installation was done in a minimum of time, the inspectors were familiar with Sunspot's excellent work and the work was inspected and signed off with minimal waiting. The installation has withstood heavy winds that are common in Las Cruces, NM (winds up to 70 MPH on 3 occasions). The Enphase inverters installed with each panel make trouble shooting a breeze and allow us homeowners and Sunspot to monitor our solar panel operation from our computers.

 + -1 moreThey arrived as scheduled and installed the panels in early September. Since our meter was NOT mounted on the house they had dig a trench from the house to the meter and disrupt our landscaping which they did not restore to quite the original condition but close. With regard to the panels on the roof, I noted that one of them cast a shadow on a skylight and that the electrical line to the meter had a rather unsightly run along the side of the house. When I noted these factors during a followup inspection, they came the following week to fix the problems. The panels were installed in September and have been operating flawlessly since then and we have not had to pay El Paso Electric anything. I found the experience of dealing with SunSpot to be very good. They were very professional in describing the system and its operation; doing the installation and handling the followup paper work. I recommend them highly.
Description of Work: They installed 12 solar panels on our roof and connected them to El Paso Electric service. We arranged for the service in mid-June and expedited the paperwork so that we could take advantage on $0.10 REC which would decreased after July 1.

 + -1 moreSunspot did a "Smoke Test" on my system once everything was in place, to ensure everything is working as expected. In the coming days, El Paso Electric will be installing my REC meters and then the city will come out to do a final inspection before my system can go active. I know there won't be any issues. I am pleased with Sunspot's professionalism, performance and price. I will definitely recommend them and use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I just did a major renovation on the roof of my home. I had more insulation blown in, replaced the roof and heat pumps before having Solar Panels installed. The whole project was a bit like herding cats as I had to coordinate a roofer, plumber, electrician, cooling company and the solar contractor. Start to finish, it was ALL completed in two weeks. I contracted with Sunspot in December, to ensure I got the El Paso Electric REC rate at $0.12Kw. Once the other renovations were completed, Sunspot installed my system slightly ahead of schedule. I watched the entire process and they did a great job of making sure my new roof wasn't compromised.

 + -1 moreWe have taken quotes from three different companies and we were disappointed by the estimate given to us by them. They didn't seem to give us complete information and they didn't seem really that interested in doing the job here in El Paso. They probably have more business than they can handle. We were really a little disappointed in the amount of information they gave us. We discounted them early on because they didn't give us all the information that the other two companies gave us.

 + -1 moreSunspot was excellant to work with. Payments were adjusted to 3 installments as work proceeded. Since the installation was mounted on a detached garage roof and power company required a shutoff near the meter that is located on the house several hundred feet away, Sunspot specified heavier gauge wire to be used to ensure negligable transmission line losses. Sunspot upgraded entrance service to my workshop garage as part of their installation. Despite limited 100 amp service to my home, we no longer experience brownout effects during the day when big appliances switch on. Sunspot also undertook the significant design and paperwork involved to satisfy power company, State, county and Federal requirements to qualify for our significant tax rebate and be approved for the net metering program. Installation was on time and within our anticipated budget. I highly recommend Sunspot to prospective buyers of home photvoltaic systems.
Description of Work: Sunspot designed, engineered, and installed a photovoltaic system consisting of 27 Schott solar panels each with their own mico inverter for roof mounting on our detached garage. System design was based on the last 3 years of electical power useage. System as designed was to be a net zero system and provides 5 kw. Through conservation and improvments to our home's energy efficiency since installation, we typically now see monthly reinbursements from our local electric power company of $60 - $160. System can be monitored on line. When one of the 27 solar panel inverters failed two months after installation, Enphase Energy reported the problem to Sunspot who quickly replaced the inverter at no charge to us. The system has been operating flawlessly every since. Together with State and Federal Tax incentives and energy efficiency improvements we have made, we anticipate payback will 7-8 years as oppossed to the 10 years the system was designed for. Meanwhile solar panel output is guarenteed above 80% for the next 20 years. Do's: Try first for a ground mount system before going to a roof top system. We could not because of zoning limitations. Removal of snow and occasional cleaning can be tricky expecially on a slick metal roodtop. In the desert where we live, low rainfall causes dust to accumulate casuing a reduction in output. Plan for periodic cleanings. Special cleaning tools are available on line for this purpose on line.
