He told us that he would fix anything that went wrong. He even went so far as to say he would guarantee his work for up to 10 years. However, there was a leak in the roof that caused an 8 foot section of the sheet rock to collapse after a large storm in July 2010. The reason that the roof was leaking was because he did not put any flashing around the roof vent pipes, when the building inspector saw it, he noticed there needed to be flashing around it all. When I contacted him about the hole, he had his sons come out and try to fix the problem in the roof. They worked on it for a week, and then he came and said that he would not fix anything because he blamed it on the high winds of the storm, claiming that it was not his fault. We did not have 90 mile winds, as he stated, and there was no other damage to our home from storms. Because of the hole, water poured through the ceiling, ruining the carpet and the walls as it came in through the broom closet into the top of a bathroom. We turned this into our insurance company. the insurance adjustor came out, and he confirmed that the roof was not properly built, due to no flashing around the vent pipes. We had more rains coming, so we had to call another company to come and put a new roof on as soon as possible. One of the other problems is that we asked for textured walls in the kitchen to match the addition. The walls are cracked and not holding up--since I first submitted this report, I have found two other cracks. He said he was 99.9% sure that it was OK to texture over paneling. When we addressed that problem, he said that he would not stand behind the subcontractor that did it, even though he was the one that hired them and their work was in our bid. In the kitchen, he put in new tile that led into the hallway. The tile is not level at all, but he blames that on the house being old, which was never a concern during the bidding process. The grout is coming out from between the tiles in the kitchen floor and in the hallway. About a week after the concrete was poured for the patio, it started cracking. He did not pour footing to start with, nor did he use any rebar or joint expansions. Again, he claims that this damage is not his fault and that concrete will always crack. The building inspector confirmed that this was also faulty work by a contractor and was the fault of the contractor. The building inspector said he was going to red tag the patio, which I assumed meant that he was going to have to come and repair it. The inspector later told me that they had 180 days to complete the work after getting the proper permits, but that has come and gone, and nothing took place. We hired another contractor to fix that. We had 3 new doors put in, and they also put new frames in. I asked why they were changing frames, and they said you should do that with new doors, which is not true. The carpet was completely damaged when removing the frames. They knew about this damage, because they had the tile guy trying to repair the damage with glue, which of course did not work. When the work was originally done by A Custom Construction, he had his sons doing most of the work that wasn't sub contracted, as he said he was training his sons, but he was never around to supervise. We have had everything repaired by other companies other than the walls, the bedroom carpet, and the kitchen flooring. When he came the last time with the inspector, he told me that he would fix the patio and make it look real good, if I would be willing to let him write a letter giving him an A+ and I would sign it. I said absolutely not. We still have not had a final inspection of the electrical work from the original construction, which was over a year ago. He didn't show up the day that the inspector came to do that, and later told us that he forgot about it and was at another job.
Description of Work: I hired them to do an addition on our home and build a patio.

Response from A Custom Construction & Roofing
I am writing in response to [member name] Complaints. I will address each item as it is written in there complain letter. #1 I never told them I would warrantee the work for ten years that is blaten lie. I give 1 year workmanship warrantee, and a manufactures warrantee. I told them that I have on several acasions warranted work ten years after completion. To keep a good standing w/ a customer. #2 Roof leak, the roof did indeed leak after a bad storm on 4th of July weekend. I was out of town on that weekend and returned on the following Monday or Tuesday and found out about the leak, me and my older son 28 years old that has been in construction w/me sense he was 15 years old. (very experienced worker) not just learning as she had stated. We fixed her roof in the rain, during that we called the building inspector to look at the roof because the wind did in fact blow shingles off of three area’s 2 places were on the existing roof that we did not even work on, but we fixed them anyway. I took pictures of the blown off shingles w/there camera so they could see what had happen. (They failed to tell you that in there letter). I had pictures of the damage but I sent them to the Attorney Generals office to address the complaints they filed with them already. Witch they found in my favor. I told the [member name] that I would fix there ceiling to keep them happy w/us and she insisted that we replace her chair and her carpet, witch had no visible damage to it. Except were he had cut the carpet back w/a pocket knife and expected me to fix. The [member name] had told me many many times how pleased they were w/our work and my son abilities at such a young age, But when I refused to replace the chair and the carpet she became the customer from HELL! Her letter is filled misleading information and blaten lies. I sent a weather report letter to the BBB and the Attorney generals office to show the wind. MPH. I never said exactly 90mph winds, I said it was over the warrantee of the shingle manufacture. The building inspector never said that the roof was done wrong, It was her insurance adjuster that said there was a pipe flashing missing. Witch there was, but it was because the vent pipe was put in after the roof was completed and we could not cut into the new roof to place it under the roofing. It was sealed with roofing very neatly w/is acceptable. There was three big areas of roofing blown off, that caused the leak! Me and the inspector went over there and together addressed every single item of concern they had and even the most ridiculous complaints were addressed and taken care of. The only one that wasn’t was the concrete because the fact is that concrete will always crack That is its nature, it will never stop Harding or shrinking, That is a proven fact! You try to take precautions against it but not one concrete professional in the world will guarantee no cracks Period! The cracks in the wall she talking about she could not show me or the Inspector even one that she as talking about ! We got on our knees looking together and no cracks were found. These people have filed a complaint w/the BBB, and they found in our favor. The attorney generals office the found in our favor. I called the Building inspector today and asked if there was anything we did not address and they said that everything was good except the [member name] called them about a receptacle that had stoped working, but they had not had a change to contact me about it yet. We made an appointment to address it on Monday 6/27/11. I have been in Business for 15 plus years as a General Contractor, I do not have one complaint on my license. Because I do care about my customers, Including the [member name]! I have served for three years in the Military w/a great record and many awards of Valor and 2 different awards of Heroism. I served our City as a Medical and Fire fighter personnel. I am not the type of person who runs from a problem I will face them head on and tried to resolve them. I called them before i wrote this letter to try to ask why they keep slandering my business, and Mr. [member name] just simply stated I should have replaced the property. I believe they are out to harm my business because they did not get there way concerning the furniture. It must be a very sad world that they live in. I have and always will take good care of my customers! My record in business has clearly proved this fact. I am going to file a lawsuit against the [member name] for Harassment and Slander first thing Monday 6/27-2011. I have tried every thing I can to resolve this. The Building inspectors will testify to that fact. So will many others. Sorry this has taken up your time. The letter that Mrs. [member name] wrote to your company is so fabricated it is ridiculous. I wish you could see this project it was a beautiful job. The Building Inspector told me himself that he wishes he had the job we did out at his house, He stated it was beautiful work! I would be happy to give you his name if you would like it.
