I found Matt on Craigslist - always a sketchy thing - and gave him a call to ask him to come over to give me an estimate. He came the same afternoon. I was impressed with his friendliness and air of competence (not to mention the quote he gave me) and arranged for him to come do the job. Our sewer line had reached terminal status & needed to be dug up & replaced. Compounding the difficulty of the job was the fact that it ran between two huge elm trees in our front yard, with the possibility of there being huge roots. Since we had for the last week been taking short showers, eating off paper plates for a week & letting our laundry pile up, he kindly made room in his schedule & arrived promptly. Matt accomplished in some 5 hours what someone else might have taken 2 days to do. He clearly knew his business & approached several obstacles with ingenuity and resourcefulness. At the point where it was starting to look ugly - perhaps having to go to have to go under the sidewalk & out into the street, which would be thousands of $$$ - he found a way to make it work. He went out of his way to explain what he was doing, making it clear that this was not a 10 year fix but more like a permanent fix, and advised us of simple steps we might take to avoid ever having problems with this line ever again. And, despite the problems, he stuck to his quote. The only sad tone to this story is that we'll never, ever have to call the guy we've been using once, twice, three times per year (over the last 10 years) to auger our line when things started backing up. There aren't many contractors I've encountered here in Albuquerque who come close to Matt's caliber. I asked him why he doesn't have a website; he said he gets enough work via word-of-mouth and Craigslist. For my part, I'll be telling everyone I know about Matt, and I strongly urge anyone reading this to give him a call. Thank you, Matt.
