From the very first, communication was difficult. He came out right away to measure the cabinets, and then we didn’t hear from him again for over three weeks. He told Lowe’s that he tried several times to call my husband. However, my husband is “on call” 24 hours a day, and he never received a call. We then scheduled to have the countertops installed, and for the most part they looked OK, but there was one section where there was a significant gap below the tile where you can see back to the drywall. It’s about a half inch gap. There’s another section where the measurements don’t quite work and another half inch gap that goes up and over a piece of backsplash. The guy that installed it said something about how maybe we could fill it in with calk, and then left. When I contacted Jerry, he said, “well, most people replace their tile.” I pointed out that in fact I am not replacing my tile. Anyway, he measured it, so shouldn’t the measurements work? He then said that maybe he could do something with creating a backsplash and removing part of the lower tile. I said that was fine. Couple more weeks go by, nothing. I texted him pictures of what it looks like. He responded that he would come out the next day. I asked him, “what time? I work all day.” No response. Two days later I contacted him again asking him, “hello?” We’ve used several contractors over the years, hired through Lowe’s. This is the only one we’ve been unhappy with.
Description of Work: We hired him through Lowe’s to install some of their quartz countertops. This was to include an undermount sink.

Jerry and his contracted employees were very careful not to damage our brick floors and personal belongings. They cleaned up after each day and asked before using a convenience, e.g. listening to their radio.
Description of Work: Jerry renovated our kitchen and installed granite on our bar in the entry/dining room area. He met us at the granite showroom and assisted in our selection of a suitable backsplash and decorative medallion picture to accent the granite. Jerry is a true craftsman in his trade and can do anything requested of him including fabrication of the granite, removal and reinstallation of plumbing lines/fixtures, drywall, light installation, moving electrical lines, capping off unusable lines & fixing a computer board chip in a remote controlled light fixture. Occasionally, Jerry would be late for an appointment time, but always called with an updated time. Being an professional artisan and working with factors outside of his control, we knew that he was helping another customer with a renovation project. Jerry makes all appointment times with each contracted project person such as painting walls, refinishing existing cabinets and tile installation of the backsplash. They are always punctual and professional. I would, without hesitation, use El Desierto Granite and Marble for any other project.

We paid him half of the fee upfront and he had 3 full weeks to do the work and had access to the house without direct supervision, but had contact info for my husband and I as well as a local relative in case issues arose. He never contacted any of us, but my sister-in-law contacted him a few times. In a few rooms, he did lay detailed, decorative patterns, like we discussed, but not the patterns we wanted. In the end, he claimed to have sealed all the tile and it was ready in the time-frame we agreed upon. My sister-in-law met him and paid him the rest of his money, with the understanding that he could come back and finish a few days later when we finished the move. After that we found several things that seemed suspicious and he stopped returning our calls whatsoever. When we moved in, we found many other things that were not done well at all. We’ve tried several times to reach him to fix the job, but he’s refused to contact us back.
Description of Work: We hired Jerry to lay about 1700 sq feet of tile and we were int he process of moving from Tennessee. He came highly recommended by a relative so we accepted his bid without a contract. He walked with us through the house twice before the job started. He assured us that he would level the concrete before laying the tile. He was also going to widen 3 doors to increase accessibility as I am in a wheelchair, and install new thresholds as well. He was also going to haul away the old carpet and some other debris for us.

Response from El Desierto Granite and Marble
I did answer there calls on go back on replace some tile that they don't like in the kitchen and all the time i was in contac with [Member Name Removed] her sister in law
My experience was great. Overall, when anything wasn't to my liking, I just mentioned it to Jerry and he would resolve it. His people are very trustworthy and if anyone can say remodeling is a great experience, it would be me! No horror stories or problems with Jerry. Still amazed at all the things they can do!!!
Description of Work: They started with granite countertops in my daughters kitchen. I loved their work and especially the price!!!! They did my countertops and also my sister's house counters. My kichen has over 300sq feet of counterspace. Jerry helped me pick a beautiful stone to match my cabinets. I now call my kitchen the Granite Cathedral!!! He even did the backsplash on the stovetop, in granite. His attention to detail is amazing, on my sisters' granite backsplash in the kitchen, there is a vein in the granite and he was able to match the cuts so it continued up the side. It looks so natural and beautiful. They even did all the window sills in the house in GRANITE!!!!! Never have to restain or paint those again. They gave us a quote for my bathroom remodel and it was at about half of everyone else that gave us a quote. They did a wonderful job on the bathroom, turning it into a handicap accessible shower, and tiling floors, shower and half of the bathroom walls. It looks and feels like a spa!!!! My sister in law had her bathroom redone, at about the same time and Jerry saved me over a third of what she spent on her remodel. Jerry's work was soooo much better, and the materials they used were better quality than the ones my sister in laws contractor used. They also did the concrete patio at my daughters house . Not to be outdone, my sister then hired him to restucco her house, and he did a great job on her home in Sandia Heights. They even built a beautiful stucco mailbox for her with a darling bench on the side. I am telling you these guys are amazing!!!!! Jerry has great ideas and always tries to save you money, but he doesn't cut corners on quality. He wants to make sure you are happy with their work and always has a smile on his face. I would not hesitate to use them again!

Some tiles above the waterline on our swimming pool had come off. I asked Jerry to replace them. He came out to look. He proposed how he would do it and gave me a price. He seemed to know what he was talking about. We set a date and time for him to do the work. He never showed. He did not call to say he wouldn't come. I called him to find out what was happening. He never called back.
Description of Work: No services performed because he did not show for the appointment to do the work.

Jerry and his crew arrived on time measured all my countertops and in less than a week called to let me know the granite was ready! They took out the old countertops, sink and backsplashes and installed everything in ONE DAY! They made special supports for the 42 inch farmhouse sink, installed and did the plumbing for i and the new faucet. Their attention to detail is amazing! He even recommended replacing the kitchen window ledges to match the granite and I have to admit, it looks incredible. Makes the kitchen look finished, down to the last detail. Loved the ledges so much, I had him put them in all the windows of the entire house! The installation was so fast, I still can't believe it. And YES, they clean up after themselves and took extra care to drape the kitchen entry so no dust would get into other areas of the house. I was so impressed with their work in the kitchen, that I hired them to remodel the bathroom. Again, they were on time and completed the work within the timeframe and at the price they quoted. Jerry came up with various ideas on how to save money during the remodel and his advice saved me a few hundred $$. He is an easy going, friendly guy who knows his trade and actually enjoys his work. While they were cleaning up after the kitchen remodel, he saw I was trying to replace the ceiling fan in the den. He actually put it together and connected it for me, without my even asking. He said I was going to fall off the ladder and just did it for me! If you need things done in your home, call Jerry, at El Desierto, they can do more than just granite and tile, he just did a patio and a custom stucco mailbox for my daughter, and she is very happy with their work.
