 + 2 moreThe job went very well. Chris is very careful and analytical when approaching a problem. He first looks at the easiest, least complex, and least expensive possible solutions. If that won't work he moves up incrementally until he reaches a solution that will work. We actually worked together on the analysis as he progressed, and he was attentive to my questions and suggestions. I try to learn something from craftsmen at work, and he was very open that. He was prompt, had the right tools, knew the right hardware and techniques, and cleaned up after the job. I was impressed that at one point he wasn't certain about something, and he phoned a co-worker who came right over and together they arrived at a solution. I will add that I just called Chris to return for a new job at my house, so I think that is testimony of my regard for his work.
Description of Work: We had a troublesome pocket door that frequently came off it's track and was difficult to open and close. We had it "repaired" several times (by others) but it never stayed fixed. Chris carefully assessed that the door could not be repaired without replacing the old track. He removed the casing around the door, carefully cut a hole into the drywall, removed the door, and removed the old track. He bought new track hardware and installed it inside the wall and on the door. He re-hung the door with the new track and assured that it was operable, level, and plumb. He then replaced the drywall cut-out, patched the seams, and re-textured that area of drywall to match (very well) the surrounding area. Because the patch needed painting I brought in a painter to re-paint the whole room. In the meantime, I purchased new casing and treated, stained, and sealed it. Some of it was not easily replaceable with new, so I refinished, stained and sealed those older pieces also. Chris returned to install the new and re-finished casing around the door. This involved cutting to size and mitering the corners, and fitting all the pieces together, and nailing in place. Two months later, the door continues to work very well, and the casing looks like new.

He did a thorough evaluation of the work we needed done and promptly provided a competitive estimate. Chris arrived to do the work when he said he would and completed the work ahead of his scheduled estimate. The work quality was excellent, especially matching the various textures required and color matching the paint. We would definitely use Chris in the future and highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Repaired wall and ceiling drywall damaged by water leaks. Re-textured walls and ceilings and re-painted the affected areas matching existing paint as required.

Also, I provided guidance on which boards went in which room. Chris is very professional, personable, and upbeat. He listens to his clients and offers creative suggestions on the work to be performed. Chris went to work on cutting and installing the base-boards and molding around the front door. After the work was complete, Chris asked me to inspect the base-board install, to ensure that I was satisfied with the work. The work was was excellent and I was very satisfied and will definitely call on him again to do carpentry work at my home.
Description of Work: The provider cut and installed base-boards in my computer room and master bathroom. Also, installed new molding around the front door.

 + -1 moreChris is an extremely hard worker, all work was done on a hot sunny day. He was punctual, tidy, careful, respectful, prepared, really strong, and competent. The fence he replaced made the work awkward because it was between 2 neighbors' gardens that were adjacent to the fence. Not one plant was killed. I would definitely recommend Chris and hire him in the future. I feel I truly got a good bargain from this professional. (He won't talk your ear off either!) Chris worked with another carpenter whose review can be found on Terry Ostrum Carpentry. These two will get the job done right.
Description of Work: Replaced a 150 foot fence that was rotting, between neighbors yards.

 + 0 moreChris worked for four days on the apartment mainly making repairs to plaster walls, especially around windows, and painting the entire interior including the kitchen and bathroom. Chris did a great job and we are very happy with how it turned out. Chris left the apartment clean and was careful not to drop paint on the floors. We would certainly use Chris again and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who needs this kind of work done.

 + 1 moreSimply amazing! Our home needed a lot of TLC. We have three children, ages 5, 13, and 16 and we have owned our home for about 10 years. It has not been painted or had any major updates since we purchased it brand new ten years ago. It was overdue...kid damage, dog damage, and general wear and tear took it's toll on our home and make our home not feel very homey. We are unbelievably pleased with the outcome. The service, quality of work, and professionalism were excellent! Chris even went the extra mile to point out things that he could take care of along the way. Simply amazing...it's like being in a new home. We were very pleased with the outcome and would recommend without reservation!
Description of Work: Painted 2600 square feet, entire house including doors and baseboards. Replaced several doors throughout the home that needed to be replaced, patched major holes in the walls, repaired damage to window sills from dog chewing, etc.

Chris replaced the door jamb beautifully. he cleaned up when he left and I would hire him again. He was courteous, timely, gave nme a fair price and a beautiful new door frame.

He sent us the work estimate via email on Sunday. We accepted it as reasonable and he performed the work on Tuesday. Chris is a nice guy with a good work ethic. He did a great job. We plan to hire him for future jobs.
Description of Work: He repaired a damaged drywall and baseboard in bedroom. He also replaced a damaged kick board under kitchen cabinet.

 + 0 moreChris came by 7/25 and looked at the job (initially just the master bedroom closet) and told me he'd never installed one of the systems like I'd purchased but that he'd do it for me. He had a cancellation so we arranged for him to come Mon. morning 7/28 at 9am. He showed up om time, worked through 'til lunch when he went home. He was back 45min later and worked though the rest of the afternoon. Even though he wasn't familiar with the closet system he did a great job. He consulted with me every step of the way about how it should be configured and when he was done it was perfect. He did such a good job I asked him to come back Tue. 7/29 and he worked the same way Tue. that he did on Mon. I wasn't available for him to come again on Wed. to finish up my "Honey Do" list so I asked him to come back on Thu which he did. I couldn't have been happier with the way everything has turned out. I have more that I'd like to have done here and as soon as I get all the stuff I need I'll be calling Chris to do the work for me. I recommend him highly!
Description of Work: On 7/28 Installed closet organizer in a large master bedroom closet. On 7/29 installed another closet organizer in a smaller bedroom closet, took wooden blinds down from my dining room windows and also from my living room windows. Then he put up new wooden Roman shades up on all the windows in the dining room and living room. On 7/31 he assembled a new outdoor fireplace, after that he installed 2 smoke alarms, took down a cloth Roman shade in the bedroom and replaced it with a new set of blinds.

 + 0 moreChris Marquez was very conscientious about repairing the cupboard and the dry wall. The cupboard floor was especially difficult as it is in a triangle space in the kitchen. He came up with an ingenious way to fix it with melamine and it was done quickly. The dry wall repairs were throughout the house and all are done and not at all visible. Chris was especially concerned with matching the existing paint since the original paint was applied quite sometime ago. He had his brother working with him for 1-1/2 days. Both men were very pleasant talk with and concerned about doing a good job. He originally estimated 3 - 4 days and we were grateful that it was done in about 2-1/2 days. Also, they were concerned about keeping things clean. We will call Chris again when we need work.
Description of Work: Repair many dry wall cracks, and also fixed a floor in a cupboard under a sink which had suffered water damage.

 + 2 moreChris was great to work with ? he is perfectly prompt, very polite, quiet, professional, and courteous. I will definitely call him back out for drywall or carpentry repairs in the future. He did a great job on two different textures. He is very forthright and honest about what he can and can't do and what he believes is in your best interest. I thought this was extremely refreshing for the times in which we live. I received estimates from 3 contractors and Chris was the best by a significant amount. I felt like what he charged was appropriate and that one of the other contractors was asking way too much for the same job. Chris did not try to up-sell us on the job in other words which I appreciated and it got him the deal.
Description of Work: Repaired drywall tape that was peeling on outside and inside ceilings due to water leakage.

Description of Work: Chris replaced and repaired drywall and applied the "orange peel" finish in three areas in my house (I painted afterward). One involved replacing a sheet of drywall in a bathroom ceiling and finishing the surface. The other two were much more minor repairs to the surface. He was brought in as a drywall specialist by Terry Ostrom Carpentry as part of a larger job.

 + -1 moreCalled to schedule an estimate and Chris was able to meet with us the very next day. During the estimate I appreciated that he took a good amount of time surveying the job and ensuring he thoroughly accounted for everything he would need to do before coming up with a quote. The estimate was given on a Friday and Chris was available the following Monday to complete the work. Because the repairs were on our currently vacant rental house, I gave him a key so he could arrive Monday morning and begin work. We showed up to do work of our own around noon and the drywall job was already near completion. The repairs and texture looked very good and matched the existing walls perfectly. Clean-up was good. Overall we were pleased with the quality of work and the very affordable cost. We will be hiring Chris for our next drywall project and recommend him highly.
Description of Work: Repaired a 8X4 ish section of ceiling in the hallway that had been damaged by a roof leak. Also scraped and re-textured a wall in the living room that had bubbled as a result of the roof leaking. All repairs were to be done to the point that all we would have to do is paint. Cost included materials and labor.

 + -1 moreIt was a perfect repair experience. Mr. Marquez showed up right on time and began immediately. The work was done in the back guest bedroom so I did not keep going back to bother him. I caught the job halfway through and was confident that this was not going to be noticeable once completed. When Mr. Marquez came to get me to show me the finished product, I was pleasantly surprised at how well he did the texturing. I knew what the job entailed since I had done small drywall repairs in my younger days. The texturing I think takes a certain touch, especially on the ceiling. He was so clean and respectful. He seemed a quiet man but he was very generous with information when I asked questions, and I always have questions. I would not hesitate calling on Mr. Marquez again if the need arises and would greatly recommend you give him a call if you have need of carpentry or drywall jobs. And there is the bonus of the coupon I printed out from Angie's List!
Description of Work: He reattached ceiling drywall, retaped and textured (excellent job, by the way), scraped detaching paint and texture on wall, leveled and textured. This damage was caused by a roof leak.

I'm so happy my living room gets much more light now due the the choices we made regarding doors and storm doors. You won't be disappointed if you hire him. I think he makes 45 dollars an hour. I would rather pay that than ruin my back trying to do things I can't do. Being a short woman. Yes the account is under hubby's name.

 + -1 moreIt is very hard to find to find good drywall repair people. In fact, I'd say it's almost imposiible. I found Chris on Angie's List. He came to see what I needed and provided me with an estimate the same day I called. We scheduled the repair for this morning. He was here exactly on time and got right to work. He did an excellent job! Neither repair was very large but both of them were in places that I looked at all the time. I am pleased to have them fixed and done so skillfully.
Description of Work: Patched drywall on the master bedroom ceiling that had been damaged from a bad roof leak. Also, patched drywall in a bathroom where a shower leak had caused damage.

He did a professional job, showed good addition to detail, cleaned up after himself, and was courteous. Clearly he was very experienced with drywall work. If the need arises, I will use him in the future for work beyond drywall repair as indicated by his Services Include section (trim carpentry, doors, shelving, baseboard, drywall, textured, siding & remodeling general). Best of all, Chris was very affordable.
Description of Work: Chris Marquez performed two drywall patches for me. One was in a bathroom where a plumber had repaired a pipe inside the wall. The other one was on the ceiling where the roof had leaked.
