First appointment (many months ago) made at 8am the guy showed up 35+ minutes late compalining about it being an early appointment and that traffic from the westside was bad. Well the company made the appointment and I have lived on the westside and he should have planned better. Short meeting - he looked at my units and thumbed through some books. He left - I was not impressed. I then send him two years of utility numbers so he could show me ROI on diffferent models - never heard back. Second appointment - comany called me to ask if their Manager Scott could come out and see me - ok - I bit and scheduled another appointment today (15 Jan 2013) at 3pm. The day before the sales person called to make sure I would be there. Today I left work and got home at 2:53pm. Waited until 3:06 pm to call the sales person who says Scott was delayed in a meeting and would be leaving soon. I said never mind. So I drive back to work - 30 minutes of my day wasted. I work for a $230mil company, I have three masters degrees, I spent 29 years in the military - I make my employees pay a dollar for every minute they are late to a meeting and my meetings never run long. I am tired of companies that have no clue what customer service is or what it costs in terms of lost work and lost customers. I will find someone else. .
Description of Work: Company was to come out and estimate replacement costs for two gas heater units and a 75gal hot water heater - on two different days.

We are sorry for your most recent experience with us. We understand how valuable your time is and unfortunately as we explained the appointments for home visits are booked in two hour windows of your choice except the first call of the day which we can accomodate an exact time. As there is no way to gauge how long the prior call will take delays will occur. We also can accomodate after normal business hours estimates. Return on investment analysis are very subjective to many factors out of our control and we do not do them because of the inaccuracy of these in a residential setting. Thank you Scott Ruch General Manager

I called the company for an estimate in response to an advertisment I had seen. They scheduled an estimate within a day or two based on matching our schedule. The estimator showed up on time, was very professional and very thorough, explained all options and system choices, accomplished a computer based system sizing analysis, and provided a firm estimate on the spot that was valid for 30 days. After some consideration I ordered the system and scheduled an installation based on my availability and the delivery of required system components. The job was planned for 2 days. The installation crew showed up on time and began the installation, during the first day of installation the crew discovered that the out of state warehouse had shipped the wrong air conditioning compressor. The crew finished all of the work that they could without the compressor that day. We then had to wait a couple of days for the correct compressor to be shipped and then schedule the remaining installation based on my availability. The remaining installation was completed on the new schedule. The crew did a nice job finishing the installation and competely cleaning up. The system has functioned well and been very efficient. One thing to watch for, the new air filter was so efficient at pulling dust/dirt from my house and ducts that it completely clogged within a couple of weeks and shut down the system, I didn't think to check the filter since I only changed the old filter every few months. I called the service number and they sent someone out within a very short time, it took about an hour to troubleshoot the problem down to the clogged filter; once the filter was changed the system worked perfectly. It took about 6 months of cleaning or changing the filter every 3-4 weeks to get all the dirt out of the system. Since then the filter is on a normal 2-3 month cleaning/changing cycle depending on how much the system runs.
Description of Work: Performed an upgrade to my heating & air conditioning system. Removed the swamp cooler from the roof and sealed off the cooler duct. Installed a refrigerated air conditioning system (installed a/c unit on the ground outside of the house, modified/installed the furnace duct work to put in the A/c evaporator, installed refirgerant lines from outside the house to the furnace room, installed new electrical circuit outside the house and inside the house to accomodate the a/c unit, installed the condensate pump and drain line), installed a new gas furnace to match the a/c unit, installed a high efficiency air filter. Cleaned up and removed all old system components and debris.

Thank you [member name removed] for your review. With all of the dust, dirt, pollen, and smoke in the air from forest fires, our high efficiency electronic indoor air quality systems really do the job. But as you have seen first hand the filters need to be serviced much more often. Can you imagine breathing all of that stuff into your lungs? Call with any questions or concerns. Jesus and Rudy were remarkably professional and displayed great pride in their work. This was evident in the methodical craftsmanship evident throughout the install. The end product was clean and attractive. Operations Manager Gary Dewitt visited the job site twice throughout the install and it was clear to me that he demands nothing less than excellence from his installation crews. Wagner obviously has a sound business plan and instills the concept of first class customer service in all of their employees. I look forward to a long relationship with Wagner Mechanical.

It was a rocky start with Wagner because their employees were not familiar with BreezeAir and their management was terrible. I was rudely treated by their office people and employees would come in and tell me the unit was working and it wasn't. Finally, one came who knew exactly what the problem was. It seems that they also changed management about this time and I have had good treatment and service since then--actually excellent work.
Description of Work: Wagner installed a BreezeAir Cooler three years ago and I had a maintenance contract with them. Their employees are always on time and knowledgeable (answer my questions). I queried several contractors before I bought the cooler which is more expensive that most but well worth it. I have now signed another contract to have them come in twice a year to service the cooler, because they are reasonable and I like the people that work for them now.

I don't think that I have ever had a company go as far as Wagner has to stand by their work and reputation. This relationship I have with Wagner began in April of 2012, I called to get an estimate for a refrigerated air system. The sales guy who is no longer with the company came quite a bit later than scheduled. Once he arrived he was very knowledgeable and personable, in fact a bit too much as he was with us for quite some time and I imagine that he was like that with most of his clients which is why he was late to see me. His departure from the company must have come shortly after he done my estimate because I had assumed everything was good to go and that our install would happen in May. The install date came and nobody came that morning. So a call was placed to inquire about the installation and nobody had any record of this. Another sales person came out the next day, very punctual and while the company had no records, he was able to validate the numbers regarding everything that had been previously agreed upon as I had my copy of the agreement. All of the prices remained fixed and a few of the little incentives that had been offered previously were maintained, Unfortunately the install had to be scheduled in mid June as that was the next available. I will finish this later, but Gary and Wagner really stood by their product and made better than it should have been in the first place.
Description of Work: Removed swamp cooler and heater, replaced with energy efficient combination heater and air conditioner. Had issues and entire system was removed and reinstalled.

Angelo let me know about a service contract for 3 service calls at a flat rate. I agreed to the contract but I never received it even though they billed $850 to my credit card. When I talked to a lady in the office I found out that they backdated the contract and that they would send the contract out right away but it’s been 3 days now and I haven’t heard from them.
Description of Work: I’ve been using them for 2 years and the original service man that used to come out regualarly was very good and very professional. The other service men they have sent are always changing. Most recently they came out to get my furnace ready for the winter.

The estimator was very thorough, asking lots of good questions and taking a photo of the installation area. They seemed to have a lot of experience installing high-efficiency furnaces, and the brand they use (York) has a good reputation. The price was great, right in the middle compared to the other estimates we got, and we felt really confident they knew what they were talking about. The installers were very efficient and professional; they clearly were quite experienced. About a month later when it got really cold, we had a problem with the water drain line (high-efficiency furnaces actually exhaust water condensed from the air). It was Thanksgiving, actually. The installers (I think it was even the same guy!) came out immediately, and knew exactly what to do - it was a simple fix, and they were done in minutes. We've never had the problem again.
Description of Work: We hired them to replace our old gas furnace with a new high-efficiency one, in a very small basement space.

Overall I have been very happy with Wagner. In 2011, they installed a new furnace and central refrigerated air conditioning system in my townhouse. When I had problems with my AC system last year they were all over it. One call and they were there the next day. The first the tech Wagner sent out was not familiar with our system because he was new to the industry but he was quick to find another tech who knew our system. Between the two of them they had our AC up and running within an hour. Next I had a new water heater installed in May of this year. They were on time for the estimate, installation, and follow ups. Like the furnace/AC system Wagner did a very good job on the installation. Wagner may cost a little more than some of the other companies out there, but their work is spot-on and they always, let me say that again, always show up on time and do exactly what they say.
Description of Work: Wagner Mechanical installed an air conditioning system February 2011 and a new water heater the first quarter of 2014.

Received call from my elderly parents to review the estimate they received from Wagner. I reviewed and called my mom back and suggested she choose another contractor, as they were too expensive. These guys are into "flat rate" pricing on certain projects. Translation: expensive. I asked for their hourly rate and they refused to provide a rate. They charge by the job. When they came out on the initial call, they quoted and charged them hourly rate. The unit did need replacement. They provided a catalog price. The total price seemed very expensive for a simple install on a flat roof with no ductwork. The electrical was updated last year. The unit was about $550, and that was for a basic unit, so the remainder was labor. The markup on the cooler was probably high also. When I asked how they could justify charging so much per hour they kept insisting they don't charge by the hour, its a "flat rate". I asked them to estimate the time needed, and he estimated a couple of hours for two techs. I asked again how he could justify charging $250 and hour and he was very adamant that there was no hourly rate. He explained to me the high cost of trucks and cranes and overhead. I explained to him that all that would be factored into his hourly rate. He stated again they didn't have an hourly rate. I asked him why he had an hourly rate the day before when they came out to diagnose the problem, and he stated they only have an hourly rate for certain work. I asked him if that hourly rate included his trucks and cranes and overhead, and he said it did. I suggested we simply operate on a Time & Material basis, and he could charge me the hourly rate from the day before. He stated that was not an option, and that most of his customers liked knowing exactly how much it was going to cost ahead of time. He stated they charge by the "book" just like auto mechanics. Since it was hot and my parents had company arriving the next day the opted to proceed. After the service they spoke with several other friends who had new coolers installed for a few hundred less. They did a good job, and were very nice to my elderly mom. They arrived on time, and were finished in two hours. Two technicians for two hours = 4 man hours. That works out to about $250 an hour. Simply too expensive. I didn't like the way they handled the pricing or the tone. I talked with three people and they all seem to dance around the issue. These guys seem to be good at what they do. They were prompt. I would guess that most of the time they install in less time than is built into their flat-rate price estimates, and pocket the profit. If you want to know exactly how much its going to cost and don't mind paying, use them. If you are good at math, find somebody cheaper.

For both (1) and (2), I have chosen NOT to go with Wagner Mechanical. Several years ago, they were an honest, reliable, trustworthy and competent company with whom I had significant work done on my house regularly; I question whether they have any of these traits today - not sure what happened. For (2), I ended up getting the problem fixed at 1/3 the cost of Wagner's estimate.
Description of Work: (1) I own two water heaters (A.O. Smith ProMax) that were installed by Wagner Mechanical in June 2007 (five years ago). They have a six year warranty on parts and tank. I recently had a pilot light problem with one of them, wherein the pilot light would not stay lit. I called Wagner Mechanical explaining the situation, and they stated that it would cost $109 to simply come out and do a diagnostic check. Even if the parts were defective (per the warranty), I would still have to pay a minimum of $109.(2) A few months ago, I had a problem with hot water being emitted from my sprinkler system. Someone had suggested that I install a check valve on my water heater to avoid the flow of hot water to the sprinkler system. Wagner Mechanical came out and agreed to install a check valve, without thorough diagnosis of the problem, for a cost of greater than $300. I called a couple of other plumbers, who estimated the cost of the valve to be ~ $30-40, and with installation, the total cost would be less than half of Wagner's estimate. Turns out that I didn't need a check valve, but rather a comfort valve associated with my hot water recirculating system.

Our most recent service went well without any surprises. Our serviceman Manny was thorough in his assessment and honest. There was no pressure to purchase anything. We haven't had any problems with our units for two years since our last service. The bill was reasonable and felt that the maintenance program was a good option to try.
Description of Work: We purchased our heating and cooling units 6 years ago. We had problems with the company in the beginning, but now it is under new management and decided to give it another try. We were due for maintenance and Manny arrived on April 16. He was very courteous and professional. He changed our filters and recommended ductal cleaning work (kind of pricey at about $1900 for both units). Total service was about $160 and I decided to sign up for the maintenance program where they come out twice a year and 20% discount on repairs is included.

They are very responsive and professional. I am glad that I have them as a service provider. I had them completely change out my heating system a little over a year ago and they did a great job. My system was hit by lightning and they looked at it and made the changes to make it so I would not have that problem again in the future. I changed from a normal efficiency to a very high efficiency system and a tankless water heater. Everything is working fine. They check on it twice a year. This was about the largest transference you can make. They are not inexpensive, but worth the cost.

Hired at the recommendation of several people in my condo. Arrived promptly to do a simply winterize on a heater/cooler roof unit that has not worked efficiently since it was purchased ($6,000) five years ago. What I thought was an extremely high cost for a cleaning and replacement for the above-noted board prompted me to seek a second opinion from another local company. That technician arrived on Oct, 21, 2011 and performed an observation as well as a cleaning of the unit's condenser coil. He informed me that there was no need to replace the board and that he's seen many boards in much worse shape than ours. This technician charged me a total of $191 for the service call, which included the coil cleaning, air circulation analysis after he'd cleaned the unit, advice on vent openings, and other useful information. He also told me that the charge for a new board, should I have needed it, would cost about $400. Accordingly, I believe Wagner was going to seriously over-charge me for the cleaning as well as the board. Hence, my low grade for the overall experience and for professionalism. The grade we gave on the price this technician charged us for the call reflects only the performance and that he did advise us correctly on the filter problem. In short, I would urge those who use Wagner's services to be cautious on accepting their cost estimates. A previous experience with this firm (with a different technician) indicated at least one problem area in terms of quality of service.
Description of Work: In response to our call for a service inspection of our combined Heating/AC unit, the technician performed an inspection of the unit. He informed us (correctly) that our utility company had erroneously installed monitoring equipment on our unit. He also told us that the ignition board on our heating unit needed replacement or the unit would fail. Additionally, he told us that the cleaning of our AC condenser coil would require special equipment to accomplish this since it was "extremely dirty". This technician did correctly assess the cause of this extraordinarily dirty coil: for 6 years, we had had no filter in place, a problem that a series of inspectors and other technicians did not discover over the years. Technician quoted me a price of $468 for the condenser coil cleaning and $744 for a new board.

The installation went well. It was not an easy job to replace a 25 year old furnace that had been poorly maintained with a state of the art furnace with all the bells and whistles. The two men worked well as a team and we are enjoying our new utility.
Description of Work: They removed a 20 year old furnace and replaced it with an new efficient one with electrostatic filters and humidifier along with some new ducting. They were knowledgeable and finished the job in a day and a half. I would definitely call upon them again for that type of work.

Our furnace went out in early November, while our mother was recouperating from pneumonia here at home. We needed it fixed fast, and Wagner could do it. , We signed an agreement on Nov. 3 and the unit was installed Nov. 12. We has problems from the start and had crews called out at least 4 times before the end of the year. We are still having intermittent problems! It has been a variety of issues, and their service people have been responsive, but the problems never get fixed...or another one crops up! The salesman, Scott, promised us that if there were more than 3 problems, they would tear out the system and put in a new one, at thei expense. Obviously, that hasn't happened. The saleman pushed us to put in the largest unit (5-ton) to heat/cool the upstairs addition more effectively. Having lived here 3 years, we are aware of how air moves in the house. We argued that the design of that addition prevents effective air movement and requested the 4-ton unit. He insisted that the square footage demanded the larger unit. The large unit has made only a slight difference in heating (heat rises) and NO difference in cooling. The room got up to 96 degrees the last 3 summers; it is getting up to 96 degrees this summer. The salesman also explained that with a newer, high efficiency unit installed (even a 5-ton) we would see a significant reduction in gas and electric bills. NOT!!!!! We have the thermostat programmed exactly like the previous system and both utility bills are noticably higher. Just to add insult to injury, we overpaid for this heat pump. We paid almost twice the other quotes we received. The saleman said their price reflected the higher quality of product and service provided by Wagners. As problems with the system have continued, we have done more research and feel we did over pay for a system that does not meet the promises made by the salesman AND has required 1+ service calls per month.

Response from Wagner Mechanical
I apologize to the member for the problems that she had with her equipment. It's very important that when you sell a premium product and service that you deliver that premium product and service. I sent a letter today to the member giving her a free year of our club program and asked that she send me her bills from prior to the install and after the install for our review. All of our installs are sized using industry standard prior to installation so the equipment sizing is spot on. Most importantly we hate to not deliver what we promise. If she has any questions or further issues please give me a call at 884-2822. Thanks, Sandy Adams Administrative Manager
