TLC Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning

The total charge was for an annual contract to change over my heating to air conditioning in spring and back in fall. The cost included parts and labor needed on my swamp cooler in the spring (at a 10% discount due to my contract). This review is for the fall air conditioning to heating service change over. I have often used TLC's services over the years for plumbing and some electrical work and they have always done a good job. This time the change over was done by Scott. His work was outstanding! He was exceptionally polite and helpful, but more importantly his knowledge of heating/cooling is far beyond the average (good) TLC employee. He advised me that I may need to replace my swamp cooler next year and discussed some options with me. My heater is only a couple of years old, but he adjusted it so that the duct work no longer makes noise in the utility closet where it is housed. He even advised me on options for a baseboard heater in my daughter's bedroom (an addition to the house and not on the main heating system). His discussed types of heaters for her space and I believe that his suggestions will save me money. As a result, I will use TLC to install the baseboard heater in her bedroom instead of contacting another company.

Because of previous electrical problems, I agreed to have TLC replace/upgrade my breaker box, which was very old and dangerous. They scheduled the date and showed up on time, saying it would take 6 hours or so -- they'd be done by 2-3 pm. So far, so good. There was some issue with the electric company, so my electricity was off from 9:30 am until 3:30 pm; I was prepared for this, so it wasn't a big deal. However, there were a few things that bothered me: 1. They said they'd be done by 2 pm. At 3 pm, and every 30-60 minutes thereafter, I was told, "We're almost done. Just another half hour or hour." I had to cancel a 5:30 appointment. The electrician finally left at 6:30 pm. 2. They completely smashed a plant in my yard. Since I'd just had the landscaping done this year, that was pretty annoying. When I pointed it out he apologized, but I still may have a dead plant on my hands. 3. Because of electrical code, there's a big pipe sticking out of my newly installed flagstone patio. I wasn't told that this would be part of the deal -- so it was kind of a shock. Now I have to figure out if there's a way to hide it. 4. The new breaker box requires a strong push upward to close. I'm short, and it takes me 3-4 tries to get it closed. Seems like there should be an easier way to make this work. I'm not unhappy that I had the work done -- I'm sure my home is safer now, and the workers were very pleasant -- but there were some details that could have been handled better.

The house was a recent purchase, and I knew little about the furnace and evaporative cooling unit. After converting the ventilation from evaporative cooling to the furnace, the furnace would not come on although the thermostat was working properly. I called TLC, and after waiting two weeks for a scheduled appointment, the technician arrived promptly. The unit required plugging into the outlet, and the power cord had been tucked in behind a duct out of view. The technician promptly identified the problem, and the furnace began to function. Since I was paying for a service call, he offered for an additional charge to service the furnace, clean the filters and run gas and CO2 checks on the unit. It is an older unit, and he showed me some things to look for and some situations that may cause the furnace to not function. Lastly, he advised me to its age and value, and suggested a dollar value for any future repairs to consider as opposed to purchasing a new unit.

Thanksgiving night at 5:30 pm found we had a broken pipe in the back yard. Called and they had someone out here and the repair was done by 7:30. The plumber was very courteous and professional. We were told upfront how much it would cost so it wasn't a surprize. We were impress with the service just wish it wouldn't have cost as much but considering it was Thanksgiving day can't complain. Would definately call them again.

A very smooth experience. No problems from design to job completion. It worked the first time. Have used these folks many times for various plumbing and electrical jobs. They are always very responsive and extremely competent. Strongly recommended.

The first job, the first guys that came out they screwed up our wooden floor and did not find the leak. The second day, for whatever reason, they sent out a guy that was excellent. He immediately found the leak in the correct location and did a decent job. During the re-plumb of my homes, the second time, they were very responsive and quite good.

My dishwasher overflowed and got water into the electrical outlet under the sink -- which completely shorted out. I turned off the breaker and TLC came in the morning to fix the outlet. At first they said they couldn't get there till afternoon, but then the electrician called me as I was getting ready for work and asked if he could come right then -- which was great, since I couldn't get the dishwasher fixed until there was electricity. He replaced the outlet and the melted wire, as well as the dishwasher plug. And while he was there, he also replaced the exhaust fan in my bathroom. And he pointed out that I really should get the breaker box replaced/upgraded -- which we'd been told previously, but my ex was never willing to spend the money. The breaker should have tripped due to the short, but it didn't. He wasn't at all pushy about doing the upgrade -- but after standing in water the night before, watching sparks flying under my sink, I was ready to get it done. He offered to waive the $300 charges for the outlet and the bathroom fan, so I agreed. A couple of other electricians came out last week to look at the options for the breaker box, and I was very impressed with their knowledge. TLC's service -- both for plumbing and electrical work -- is always on time and always professional.

Had to wait 4 days for appointment; busy season? Arrived a half hour after the two hour window I was given. Very good on site service; tested and re tested to be sure repair was working. The previous owner had jury-rigged a heat sensor switch ( a serious safety issue that the home inspector missed when we bought the house) and the connections made by the previous owner were not working. Replaced the sensor connection, cleaned up the gas ignitor.

My only complaint was that when the repairman showed up to replace the motor he did not have the necessary part(s) in his truck and therefore had to go back to the office to get this. We live 22-25 miles away and we were held responsible for his travel time, which kicked up our total outlay. We initially informed the company we had a Lennox AC. The repairman had any necessary parts if our AC had been a Courier(sp?). The temperatures were "unseasonably hot". We had to go three days without AC because it went out the Friday BEFORE Labor Day. A service call during the weekend or holiday would have been double time. Long story short we were at their mercy.

The technician was an hour late but I attributute that to the heavy volume of calls during this time of season. There is always a backlog of customers needing Heating A/C services at the change of the seasons for this company because they do such a fantastic job. Well worth the wait. The technician switched out the systemsand did his job very profesionally and was very courteous. An added bonus was the fact that he lives in my area so he was able to do the job and get back home at a reasonable time instead of having to drive a long distance after he finished to get home for the evening.

I called TLC Plumbing and Utility on Wednesday, and scheduled work for the following Friday. The individual who set the appointment was friendly, likeable and efficient. She answered my questions directly, and was able to schedule the appointment for my first choice of date and time. Paul S. was the service technician who did the work. He called me 20 minutes before arrival to let me know he was on his way, and arrived during the time scheduled. As an older woman, I sometimes feel that repair technicians are dismissive. That was absolutely not the case where Paul S. and TLC were concerned on this call. The service technician listened carefully to my description of what I needed, and to the problem earlier encountered with the heater. He was polite, professional and competent. Without delay, he got the heater up and running, waited to make sure it was cycling on and off as it was supposed to, and tested for carbon monoxide. There was no attempt to pressure me into repair work that might not be neccesary at this time. I was confident that when he was done, the heater had been thoroughly looked at, and that he confirmed all was in good working order. The charge was absolutely reasonable. I will not hesitate to call TLC in the future--in fact I am already planning my next call to have a faucet installed in the kitchen.

They are really good to me. I've never had any problems with them.

The overall service surprised me with friendliness like a family member coming for a visit!! :)

I contacted this company, left my phone number with the receptionist and was told that I would get a call from the installer. The installer never called.

Carlos Griego and his crew worked very hard, under very difficult conditions, to make this system work better than ever. Although the job turned out to be more extensive than anticipated (and thus, more expensive), we have only good things to say about the quality of the workmen and the work. This job required some creative problem solving, and Carlos, his crew, even his supervisor, didn't stop until they had it figured out. The people we dealt with from TLC were always respectful and responsive to any concerns we had. We are very pleased.

Prompt, courteous and professional service. I wouldn't hesitate to call TLC again in the future. He promptly snaked the drain out and it is running freely now.

I have had TLC do work for me before with generally good results. But on this particular occasion, they completely failed to provide the needed response. It was early in the morning, and I had house guests. I could hear water running in the bathroom, but at first I thought someone was taking a shower. When I realized that wasn't the case and checked, I discovered that the bathroom and an adjoining closet were flooded, and water was pouring out from under the sink. While my son tried to turn off the water underneath the sink (the valve was stuck), I called TLC's emergency number. I expected a quick and helpful response. Instead the fellow I spoke to simply informed me that they couldn't get to my house for 45 minutes! Since I already had a flood underway, I was pretty upset. He continued to be unhelpful and gave me information I didn't need about how we might not be able to turn off the water to the house at the street, and all this was just too bad, and so on. I gave up on him and called the next company I saw in the yellow pages with an emergency number, and they had a whole different approach and were very helpful. They ended up getting my business, and I'm doing a separate review on them. I might hire TLC for something, but I will certainly not ever call them for emergency service.

TLC came within 2 hours on the Friday before Memorial Day week-end for the service call. We were very pleased but we are still waiting, (3 weeks later) for the quote on a more permanent fix to our problem.

They are prompt and the service is the best in this city. You can get them 24/7. I can call them at midnight and they will send somebody out.

Overall, my experience was excellent.

We have used TLC for approximately 20 years. They have replaced our furnace, swamp coolers, hot water heater, and repaired a broken pipe in the street leading to the hookup for the city sewer sysem.I called to schedule an appointment to have two swamp coolers opened up, cleaned and turned on for the summer. At the time of the service being preformed, I renewed our membership in their customer care program. This customer care program includes the opening and closing up of the coolers for the year, as well as the furnace being checked and cleaned for the winter, a 10% discount on labor for all repairs, no over time rate for emergencies, 24 hour customer service. They called to advise when they were on the way and arrived as scheduled. They did the work efficiently and were very professional.

I just work with one plumber all the time. They assign me one and if that individual is not available, the company sends out another person. They always have trainers but he overbooks himself. The trainer inspects the work when he gets here. He does hands-on work himself; he has been doing it long enough now that he trains others. They do my seasonal change over for my furnace and cooler. They check my toilets and my sprinklers. They do a lot in an hour; they make a good use of their time. I have had people who chit chat and charge me for the chitchat but they are not like that. They have put in a new water heater and a cooler a couple of years ago. They charge me the parts and labor but they go pick it up from the store that that company uses. I priced around and they are not bad.
