last night our outside AC unit was making a funny noise and then stopped cooling the house. Luckily it was cool last night and we slept well with the windows open (and alarm set). In ther morning I started the AC and it worked, without the unusual noise. To be on the safe side we checked Angie's List and called TLC, they were able to send someone out that same morning. The TLC tech called me a few minutes before he arrived. when he arrived he proceeded to inspect the AC machine. After doing a thorough visual, electrical, pressure inspection (with gauges) and running the system to see how it was behaving he concluded that the AC unit compressor pump is overheating and shutting down through and internal temperature switch. We talked about our options and seeing we had this AC system installed just over five years ago we might be able to get the AC compressor replaced under warranty through the original installer. So for now this visit was just a inspection/diagnosis with a quote for a repair, in the future will be at the top of my list of companies to call if I need a repair.

I contacted TLC Plumbing to fix problems in kitchen, laundry and a bathroom. They were very professional on the phone and responded quickly for the initial visit. Arrived on time and fixed kitchen problem that same day. They needed to order parts to complete bathroom and laundry work and said they would call once parts arrived. I followed up 2 to 3 weeks later and got no definitive answer. Got tired of waiting and contacted someone else to fix the problems.

The price was not bad, considering we thought that it was going to be in the thousands. I recommend that everybody use them. They did not try to sell us a whole new unit, when we only need a new piece. They are the first ones in all of these years that we would use again.

first was a drain cleanup, TLC (Bo) had problems, called out the jetter and inspection fellow who confirmed a leak at the property drain and main drain, in the street of course. Crew showed up on time and when questions arose the office expedited the correct people to assure the property owner, me, that all was correct by double checking at no additional cost. Crew started at 0900 dug a home in the street, fixed problem, backfilled and repaired street by 1300. I've used TLC before and every time they have done the job as assigned, called ahead if lost or delayed and are always professional, including politely answering client questions. The main office applied a discount for Angie's list membership. All the TLC people I met were patient and professional Someone told me other plumbers are less expensive, maybe so, but I'm willing pay the extra? for the quality of work and service.

When our water heater started leaking, we took several bids for replacement. A friend, who worked in another branch of plumbing, suggested TLC. I called for a bid and was told that a plumber would call to set up a time for the bid. A few days later, I called back. This time he called and gave a bid by phone sight unseen. I originally wanted to upgrade to a tankless system. A tankless system requires a ¾ inch gas line. I advised that another contractor measured it and it was a ¾ inch gas line. The problem was that the previous contractor just remember ¾ inch for the code. The tankless system requires a dedicated ¾ inch line. For the line to be shared with the heater, it would have needed to be a 1 inch line to not have problems with both the hot water heater and the heater and meet the city codes. By not looking at the lines and just quoting over the phone, TLC underestimated the job. A competitor, who actually came to the house, gave me bids for either way and allowed me to choose. Since TLC specializes in this type of work, I think they would have caught it, if only they looked.

When Bart and Carlos showed up they were very friendly! The install took two days (mostly because we decided to have them replace the hot water heater while they were here anyway). They took the extra time to make everything look professional. They ran the lines through the attic and covered the lines outside. They even went as far to fabricate a metal box that attaches to the wall in the garage with all of the paperwork on the a/c and hot water heater. To me, that really makes a difference. I have never had any company go so far to make everything look as good as Bart and Carlos did. They even took a few minutes to advise our neighbor on her swamp cooler which was more than ok with us because it was flooding into our yard! I would recommend TLC and especially Bart and Carlos to anyone!!!!!
Description of Work: We called TLC to get estimates on replacing our swamp cooler. Within 24 hours we had estimates on replacing it with either another swamp cooler, master cool swamp cooler, or refrigerated air. We decided that refrigerated air would be the best choice for us long term. We scheduled the install for the following Monday. Our heater was an older unit and would have to be replaced during the conversion.

TLC is always quick and I have found them to be honest as well. You pay a little bit more for that same day or next day service but when the AC is out and its hot outside, or the water heater was pouring water all over the garage, it is worth it. They are a reputable company and they solve the problems.

A series of miscommunications...starting with the plumber calling before the scheduled 2 hour window, and skipping us to go to the next job when no one answered though we were there waiting. Luckily the rest of our day was un-booked, so we could reschedule for later the same day. Rob found cause of soft-water leak quickly, and easily replaced a stripped Kinetico gasket and o-ring. Outdoor hydrant was another matter..After digging 2-ft (we all chipped in, tools, sweat, etc.) looking for the joint to the main line, and yet with no idea how deep to dig, we ended the day with a temporary plug "fix" so we could have water for the weekend. Saga continued..(see separate review). Very nice that TLC no longer charges travel time to Placitas, and could schedule us so quickly--within the same week, only two days later. It would be even nicer if they were better prepared to solve the problems at hand (e.g. a shovel). A more pro-touch would have been if TLC had noted the problem description in sufficient detail at the time of the initial call to pass along to the plumber,

Another series of miscommunications...the work-order showed that we already had the new hydrant, but after speaking directly to one of their plumbers on Saturday (nice touch!), I was convinced it was better to let them bring the proper part. Luckily, I was able to contact Cheryl before noon to set up the appointment for first thing Monday, thereby saving significant overtime costs. I failed to tell her the substance of my conversation with Carlos thinking he would be the one to do the job. Neither did Carlos. So Miguel showed up thinking I already bought the part. Miguel drove back for the part, on our clock, but limited the labor charge to the 1 hour minimum. He said it was 1.25 hours, without finishing the cement top which would have taken more time. The part, a frost-free hydrant 2 ft bury depth, was available online with free shipping at Home Depot for less than half the price TLC charged. Quibbling about the time was an unfortunate way to end a job that had already span our weekend. Very nice that TLC no longer charges travel time to Placitas, and could schedule us on Saturday for a Monday morning slot to complete the job that began Friday. It would have been nicer if they were better prepared and could save the time and energy to go back for parts -- would it have hurt to have the part on the truck? Besides job continuity, another pro-touch would have been if TLC had the ability to receive a pic from the customer to pass along to the plumber who would be doing the work,

I used to use TLC plumbing all the time and loved them but my last two interactions with this company have resulted in me moving on to another company and wanting to warn others that these guys aren't providing the best service to their customers anymore. Two bad things happened in the last 2 months with this company. 1) I was overcharged for a supposed fix on my swamp cooler that didn't actually fix the problem, then when I called them to let them know the issue hadn't been resolved, they said that the work wasn't under warranty so would not come back and look at the problem again without charging even more. Thankfully I was able to have a friend come and take care of it for me. 2) today (Sunday) I had an emergency with a severely leaking hose bib causing me to have to shut down the water in my whole house - called TLC to give them another shot to see if they would come check it out right away and fix the problem. This was at 8am. They took a message and forwarded it to a technician, who never called me (its 4 pm now). I'm a single mom with very little time and money and am at the mercy of tradespeople such as plumbers to help when something goes wrong in my home - I don't think there is any excuse to treat customers in this manner, especially being a loyal customer for years prior. Also, I can't be without water in my home, but because I waited around for them all day, I will have to wait another 16 hrs (at least) with no water - not okay when there are kids in the home. So, long story short, I will never use TLC again, and I've moved on to New Mexico's Route 66 Plumbing Heating and Cooling, thanks to other favorable reviews on Angie's list for them. I called today, spoke at length with the owner who was very nice and helpful and will have a technician to my home first thing in the morning...and yes, thanks to TLC, now have to take time off of work to deal with this. Awesome.

Electrical appointment tech was on time. In five to ten minutes he had looked at the electrical box, said it was fine and handed me a bill for $100. I wasn't informed of the fee when I made the appointment and said so to the tech. He put the invoice in his clipboard and left. I cancelled the plumbing appointment because I am not comfortable with this type of practice. Any time there is an appointment scheduled the cost should be explained up front.

One of our bathroom sinks has been draining very slowly. After several attempts to do it ourselves, we figured we needed to call a plumber. Called one service provider on Angie's list but they couldn't come out until Tuesday. Called TLC Plumbing, the rep scheduled a technician and said they could fit us in today. Being that it was the day after a holiday, and approaching the end of the day, we were very happy to hear this news. Mike, the technician, called within the hour and said he was on his way. He took a look at the pipes we had dismantled and was able to quickly remove the other pieces, clean out the gunk and get our drain flowing again. It took him about 30 minutes to complete the job. Had we just called TLC from the beginning, it would have saved us several hours of running around to the store to try to find the right tools, getting liquid drain chemicals, and the frustration. Next time, job big or small, we will be calling TLC as they are the professionals.
