They took my check cashed it, and never did the work. They called three weeks ago and left a message on my voice mail asking for my address to mail me a check. I called their answer machine gave my mailing address, still no check.
Description of Work: Statewide History Dec. 8, 2009 Went into the studio and furnace was out and would not stay lit after four relights. I called Statewide who had replaced my forced air furnace in my house with a more energy efficient one. I have been satisfied with that installation, except Statewide never furnished me with the paperwork on the warrantee, which Lawrence said he would mail me. I went to the hardware store and bought two electric heaters and put them in the studio, praying they would keep work from freezing. Dec. 11, 2009 Statewide arrived, spent two and one half hours. I understood there would be a $45.00 travel fee, as well as their time spent. They said that I would need a new furnace and they would return the following Tues to install it. I agreed that a new furnace was probably in order as anyone who had looked at the existing furnace all said “How did this ever pass inspection?”. The plumber who installed the furnace when the studio was built four years ago died four days after installing it and I never got any paperwork on that either, but it seemed a hodge-podge of parts he may have had on hand. I gave Statewide the deposit of $1100.00, check #0096 which they requested and received a receipt. They would return on Tues. The 15th of Dec. install. Temperatures up here in Cuba were going to 8 and 4 below at night. They took away with them three parts: the fuel pump, something to do with the air damper and something else, I don’t know what. Dec. 14, 2009 Monday I receive a voice mail on my cell phone saying “This is Lawrence from Statewide. I will call you this evening to let you know when this week we will be there to install your furnace”. So I understand they will probably not arrive on Tues. I await the call which will verify. No return call. Dec.15, 2009 I call the phone number on the receipt and get an answer machine “Sorry we cannot answer your call right now but if you leave your name and number we will call you back”. I request a call to tell me when they are coming. That evening Lawrence calls me and states he doesn’t know why “the office” didn’t call me as they should have, but “here’s the thing: your furnace came and was marred on the front, so they sent it back and are awaiting the new one to arrive. It should be here by Tues. Dec.22, Wed. Dec 23, at the latest.” Dec. 22, 2009 I call the office number on the receipt and get the same answer machine and message. I try this at various times throughout the day to see if “the office” ever has someone there to no avail. I scroll through my cell phone looking for a number that may get to me Lawrence directly and find his number is restricted number. Now I am beginning to worry, also realizing, at this time that I do not know this man’s full name. I try again in the evening. No luck. Dec. 23, 2009 I call the number on the receipt repeatedly. No person, just answer machine. I look up Statewide on google trying to locate their place of business. The google address appears faulty. The zip code does not correlate with the street given. It is getting much colder at night going down to 10 below. The electric heaters are barely holding the temp above freezing. I have weeks of clay work that cannot freeze which is why I am so worried. I keep the water running at night to keep the pipes from freezing. Some time during the day Lawrence calls me and says the furnace hasn’t arrived yet. Most probably would be Thurs. Dec. 24. He says if it doesn’t come on Thurs, they will install the day after Christmas. I tell him that is not possible. He asks “Why? Are you not going to be there?” I am uncomfortable with that question and do not answer. I tell him he never told me the brand of furnace and what are the specs on it. He says he will call me back in a few minutes with the information so that I may look at the furnace on line. He never calls back. Dec.24, 2009 Lawrence calls me at 9:30 a.m. and says they are at UPS and the furnace is on the truck but it will take an hour for the UPS truck to be unloaded to the furnace. Lawrence was going to go get gas for his truck and return to UPS later to get the furnace. I asked him if he was coming to Cuba on Christmas Eve day and would he have enough time to actually install the furnace. He said “yes” and that they would be there. I was surprised at that answer, but I was joyful. They never showed and never called. That evening I call the number on the receipt and told the answer machine that I no longer wanted to talk but wanted him here installing the furnace. That he cannot come Sun. or Mon. because I would not be there and the house sitter was not going to deal with a furnace installation. Also, I said if he wasn’t here Tues. A.m., Dec. 29 installing this furnace that I wanted my money back. Dec. 26 , 2009 7:30 a.m. My thermometer on the fence says 16 below. The electric heaters are daily losing ground at holding the temp in the studio. I am out of town but have a friend staying at the house. Largely because of Lawrence’s question ”Why? Are you not going to be there?”. Dec. 28, 2009 Monday. I receive a voice mail saying that his in-laws had been in an accident coming to Albuquerque from El Paso and that his father-in-law died. He didn’t know when he could install the furnace. He was on the road, and would call when the phone connection wouldn’t be a problem. No further call from him. I call the number on the receipt and tell the answer machine “I was sorry for their loss but I still wanted to know who, then, was going to be sent install the furnace?” Certainly a business has an alternate plan for when occurrences make it necessary to farm the work to someone else to do the job. Dec. 29 Tues. I begin seeking references from friends for another plumber. I go to the Better Business Bureau and find Statewide has an F rating. I find a plumber recommended to me on their list who has a A rating. I call and make an appt. We talk and email some photos of the situation I call State Wide’s answer machine and say that “I want my money back. I want my money back. I want my money back.” Dec. 29 or 30 I file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They have since closed the file as no one responded.
