They called me on Friday- I had already called another company- When they described what they were going to do I told them they sounded expensive and I didn't think I could afford them and I didn't want them to come out. They assured me it would cost me nothing, that they worked for the insurance company, they were also going to do the renovation afterwards. I kept asking them questions saying I was concerned because I had a big deductible ($1,000) They kept assuring me they would work with me and I wouldn't have to pay anything. They even went so far as saying that it was a civic decision to do this for nothing for us because we were low income seniors and they were trying to repair a bad reputation indicating they would eat the $1,000 deductible and then charge the insurance company the rest of the money. They told me to tell the insurance company to just send the check to them and not give it to me. They said and I quote" we are used to dealing with insurance companies we know how to make this work." I should have been suspicious but my house had just gone on the market we had to sell it quick so I had other things on my mind, then is the company trying to defraud my insurance company. We were facing an illegal foreclosure, @ weeks earlier my attorney had said that while she had found 7 illegal things the bank had done in the foreclosure that she couldn't guarantee we could save the house with the current judicial system favoring the banks, and that because I had a lot of equity in the house I needed to get it empty and on the market as soon as possible" ( we were still storing the remains of a 25 year store that we had closed down at the beginning of the recession, and it had caused us to have to live with a lot of clutter which doesn't work when selling a house). Obviously having a flood that requires you pull up floors and replace them just as your house is supposed to be viewable is a real problem. Anyway to make a long story short- They didn't show up to dry the house out for 5 days insuring that the floors would get really damaged- They kept calling and changing the time when they said they would be here. Then after they had supposedly dried the floors they scheduled a date the following week to do the construction. Well they never showed up Monday-Tuesday, or Wednesday and finally Thursday after many phone calls the office secretary said they were not going to come and do the work. I asked her why and she said they couldn't do the work because of the deductible. This would be the same deductible they told me not to worry about. Now it is the day before the Memorial Day holiday- My house is supposed to be viewed in 6 days I can't find anyone to come and look at it in front of this long holiday weekend. My realtor recommended someone who did show up the following week exactly when he said he would and he did the work, but he said that the floors still were not dry and they were very rotten from being wet for 2 weeks. The final screwing was when I received a bill for $700.00 after being told there would be no charge. Avoid these people they are incompetant, corrupt, and will screw you if given a chance. I finallty figured out that theu way they were going to make up the difference was to overcharge the insurance company, but when the insurance company sent me the check directly they realized they couldn't scam the insurance company by overcharging on the bill, so they lost interest in doing the job. I primarily dealt with a man named Ben who spent a long time just talking to me about life in general and my profession specifically, but then would not take my calls after he made the decision not to come back and do the work. What a terrible experience!
Description of Work: I had a pipe break in my house and it flooded my laundry room. My insurance company called these people to dry it out.
