My husband and I knew realtor Gladys Delgado socially before we decided to buy a house and, being new to the area and home buying, wanted someone to help us through the process. Gladys seemed an easy choice. The problems started early. We met with Gladys to discuss what we were looking for in a home. We gave her very specific criteria which were clear and impossible to misinterpret. (move-in ready, under 10 years old, southwest stucco or adobe style, no fixer-uppers, etc.) About a week later we went on our first house hunt. Gladys showed us homes that were decades old, some made with brick and siding, some missing chunks of flooring and kitchen cabinets; if she had tried to show us places we would not have liked she could not have succeeded more. We told her again what we were looking for and she replied, "Now that I have a better idea of what you want I'll find some more properties." We had already made it clear what we wanted, so one afternoon was wasted. The next trip revealed a house that we were interested in. It was a vacant foreclosure. We had many questions about it, but getting answers from Gladys was like pulling teeth. Phone calls were not returned. Emails with multiple, numbered questions were replied to with perhaps only one answer. She never did find out how long the home had been vacant or who the builder was. I had to research who the builder was. A conference call to voice our displeasure was met with, "It's ok if you have to call me two or three times before you get me." No, it is not. The frustrating process finally came to an end in January when we closed on that house. The bank left a key lock box in the front yard which Gladys was unable to open at closing time. Monthly calls to ask her to remove it have been ignored. It is now June and this unwelcome lawn ornament is a constant reminder of our dissatisfaction with Gladys. Having talked to other people about their experiences with realtors (one man said his realtor would even pick him up and drop him off at the airport for showings; a former realtor still sends her clients birthday cards), I see how lousy ours was, especially as we were already acquainted with her. I shudder to think how off-the-street clients are treated. We did not feel taken care of, listened to or important. I would rather apply for another mortgage and plan my wedding again than work with Gladys.
Description of Work: Gladys Delgado of Re/Max was our realtor from October '10 to January '11. We made three trips to view properties and settled on one to put an offer on. Three months later we closed on the property.
