Thank you very much for sharing your Pella experience with Angie's List. We greatly appreciate your business and look forward to assisting you in the future. From the estimate to the purchase and finally the installation, our experience with Pella was exceptional. Throughout we were entirely comfortable that our new door would be exactly what we wanted...and it is.

We got an estimate for the job in the spring, but due to our travel plans, the work was not done until the fall. The positives are that a second person comes to double check the measurements and other details. Once that is complete, it takes a long time to have the windows and door fabricated. The installation was scheduled to take two days, but once the work started the crew thought they could get the work completed in one long day. We would have rather had them do it in two days and we had evening plans. But because some of the materials were not correct, they had to come back a second day anyway. We were not happy with the installation for a number of reasons, especially with the door. The windows have two panes of glass with a blind between them. We thought this would be a good option for New Mexico because of the dust. By the end of the day, the installers had greasy hands and there were greasy fingerprints on our new door including between the glass, and on the door handle. The blinds wouldn't work properly in the door - they wouldn't go all the way down, and they got stuck in the top. The installers didn't have the knowledge of the product to properly fix this, and in the process of trying, it became worse. The one thing we were really looking forward to was the screen doors, and they didn't come until later. We are disappointed in the quality of both the windows and the door. Eventually a service technician came and fixed the blinds in the door, and now we have all the things we contracted for. However, it was a long process and we should have looked at other options. I am confident that we could have gotten better quality for a better price had we shopped around more.

My experience with the installation of these windows was terrible. The contractor Pella sent, did a terrible job installing my windows. They overcut the stucco and ended up installing 3 1/4 and 3 1/2 inch trimming, I had never seen trimming on a window installation so big! The trimming cuts were so bad I had to call The Pella Window Sales Person to complain. The trimming cuts were warped, bent, uneven and with sharp edges. The interior work was done well and cleanup inside was good, but outside cleanup was terrible, I spent all my afternoon cleaning up after these workers. I called Pella to complain of the work these workers did and the sales person said she was sending a complaint to the management and to the contracor. On November 20, 2012 the same contractor came back again with one of the same workers, the contractor himself and another worker. They removed the trimming and installed new trimming again, this time a bit bigger again! to coverup the rest of the stucco damage and the trimming sealer around the edges. When the trimming was removed I asked the contractor why they had done such big overcuts, he said that they have to cut 1 1/2 inch over for removal of old window, these cuts were not 1 1/2 inch, they were over 2 1/2 to 3 inch cuts and that is why the trimming had to be so big! This time around they did good work on the trimming, but I had to stay outside making sure it was done right. The only reason I will use this company again is because I like their windows and quality of windows, but their intallation is disgusting, I will not use this contractor and will have Pella Window send someone else, hopefully better.

We are sorry that this experience was far below what you or we would have expected on a Pella-installed project. The optional extrerior trim is intended to give the homeowner an alternative to having to have the stucco repaired. We make every effort to keep the exterior trim to a minimum. Examples of this trim can be seen in-person at our Santa Fe and Albuquerque showrooms or ask your Sales Specialist to provide you with photos of local projects with varying construction styles and Pella product lines. We are pleased that you are going to give us another chance to prove why Pella is viewed to be the best.

Pella makes good-quality windows, but the people who sit in their offices and place the orders appear to be mentally challenged. When the original order was placed and the windows were installed in November, some blinds that we asked for were ordered in the wrong size. The installers apologized, but it would be another month before the "right size" blinds could be ordered again (these are blinds that go INSIDE the double-paned windows). After waiting a month and taking a SECOND day off from work, the installer came out to attempt to install them again, only to not be able to do it because some IQ-challenged person in the office had ordered the wrong blinds a SECOND time. Meaning that I completely wasted my time waiting for them. Ostensibly it will be another month before this job is finally complete, but Pella has been billing me even though the job is not finished yet. I would recommend finding a COMPETENT window dealer--and that dealer clearly is not Pella. If you have a stay-at-home adult in your house whose time is completely flexible it might be worth the frustration.
Description of Work: Pella installed 8 windows in our house in 2012, and several other windows in 2007. We had no trouble with them the first time around, but this time, it has been a nightmare.

We are sorry it did not work out for you, but we appreciate you giving us the opportunity. Our records indicate that you requested and received pricing on only Pella's Designer Series. Of the six series of Pella products, the Designer Series will typically be the more expensive option. Pella offers vinyl windows and patio doors (Encompass) as the lower price point, but still provides superior insulation and a limited lifetime warranty. The 350 Series is our "Evolved Vinyl". The fiberglass windows and patio doors (Impervia) would typically be the mid-range priced product offering durability and longevity with a limited lifetime warranty. The Pella wood family consists of the ProLine Series, the Architect Series and the Designer Series. The wood products give the customer the most options and features. Pella offers products for all budgets and financing options to make your home improvement project possible.

The windows themselves appear to be installed correctly. The door installation went well, although the mini blinds between the double glass are a little difficult to adjust where you want them to be. The door lock was hard to operate the first day, but we figured it out. The real problem we have is the installation of the wrought iron over the new windows. One window has one of four bolts missing, and another one has 3 of 8 bolts missing. Also some of the decorative design iron was knock off. The installers said nothing about missing bolts or pieces falling off. Another wrought iron on a third window was re-installed in a different position and some stucco was damaged (small area). Also a very poor effort was made to clean up outside the house after the installation was done. I found sharp pieces of metal, old bolts, and other objects (plastic mostly). I would have been furious if one of my dogs was injured due to the very careless outside cleanup. The work crew was very happy for the free food, juice, bottled water, and coffee we provided them ; however, both days they seemed in a hurry to leave after 6 hours. It was like they were on a strict time schedule even with the free food and drinks. They should have spent more time cleaning up instead. We were charged $65/window/door for the wrought iron removal/install. The charge was for 11 doors and windows but couldn't do the iron work over the double patio doors. It was a wider size than the old one. I give the following grades(1-5) 5 best 1 worst Windows & doors. 4. Mini blinds tricky to operate and no better than the old windows for keeping dust out. The tinted windows work well in the New Mexico sun Pella sales local. 4.5. Very attentive and responsive to calls and questions. Has construction experienced person verify size and pre-installation requirements. He did say the old iron work for the patio doors would not fit over the new doors. A professional wrought iron company got them to fit just fine. As things turned out I should have done the iron work through the pros, not the window installers Installation crew (2) rating. The windows/door seem good but very low marks for poor iron work install and terrible post install clean up. The bad remarks for install would make me go somewhere else. Maybe better supervision would have taken care of this. The crew used to work for Pella, but are now independent contractors

Thank you very much for taking the time to post this review. We are very sorry for the issues you have described in your review. We have taken steps to make this situation right with you and internally to make corrections and to prevent these issues from occurring in the future. This customer chose the Pella Impervia (fiberglass) windows and the Designer Series Hinged French Doors offering the between-the-glass cellular shades or Slimshades. Pella developed this technology over 35 years ago and no other manufacturer can offer this quality with the ability to change the shades without having to change the glass. Every Pella installation project is assigned a Replacement Sales Specialist, a Project Coordinator and a Site Verification Specialist. We strive for 100% customer satisfaction on all projects. We stand behind our products with some of the most comprehensive warranties in the industry and our installations are backed by a two year workmanship warranty.

The rep came a little late. No biggy. We briefly discussed the options of replacing the windows and he took out his computer and worked for about 10-15 minutes. He handed me the bid which was much more than anticipated. I said so and he left. He did not discuss other options or try to offer other options...he just closed up his computer and left without hardly any words. I felt like I wasn't worth his time and effort. I'm surprised they have been in business this long if all their sales people operate like he did. I had a local company replace the windows and I am very satisfied with their price and service.

We ended up not hiring Pella to do our work, but were very impressed with their professionalism. They actually honestly told us that they were probably not the best company to do the job, because they were not experts in a particular technical aspect of the job---but referred us to another company instead. They correctly told us that this company would be cheaper and had more experience in this specific area. I was very impressed and appreciative of this honesty, and felt it warranted drawing attention to it. I would hire them in the future.

There was some imperfections of course and they did come out and try to rectify the problem, so I think it went really well. I thought that their employees were good and were helpful. Our biggest problem was that they were in the middle of moving their showroom, so they moved from one place to another right in the middle of my project and it took people a little longer to call me back then what I wished. The quality of the product is really good and they did finally get out here to take care of everything that they said they would.

Thank you so much for sharing your Pella experience with Angie's List. This Sandia Heights home used mostly Impervia (fiberglass) windows and patio doors, but in the case of one oversized window (the million dollar view) we used a Pella wood window with aluminum-clad exterior. This customer had his home re-stuccoed after installation for a new-construction look. If you don't need re-stucco, or don't want the "patched stucco-look" we have a solution for that as well. I just had the weirdest experience with an appointment scheduling. I had a young man call me from the Pella ABQ, NM center to offer a window sale because they are under "new management." I went ahead and made an appointment for a window quote next week and hung up. About 10 minutes later the same guy calls me back and asks me "I was just calling back to see if your husband is going to be available for this appointment?" I asked "What does it matter?" and he proceeds to say "It's company policy and there's nothing we can do about that because we like to present to couples" and said that one of the reasons is because he (my "husband") is probably the one that makes the decisions so they'd prefer if we were both here for the appointment. I told him I was offended because not only is the question sexist, but it is none of Pella's concern if I'm single or married. I also told him that I could be gay for all they knew and it was none of their business. He apologized but still continued to ask "Are you married?" in which I told him to cancel the appointment. I have placed a complaint thru Pella's website. Besides the question being sexist, the fact that he called back after the appointment is cause for concern for my safety on whether a man would be in my home or not on the date of the appointment. For the record, I am a single, female homeowner and they just lost this sale.

In early 2012 we undertook the process of refinancing our home, and discovered that Pella had placed a lien on our property in May 2011, alleging that the contractor had not paid for the windows. We had never heard anything about any such problem, nor had we been informed by the Pella store of the lien. We asked the contractor for help, and they provided a copy of the cleared check from an El Paso bank. By this time we had hired a lawyer, as we were losing ground in the refinancing process due to the lien. It turned out that the El Paso store was owned by the Albuquerque Pella. Our lawyer had difficulty reaching the manager in Albuquerque, and when she finally did he was very uncooperative. He claimed that the contractor's check had bounced, and they'd only paid with a later check. Given our personal knowledge of the contractor, we doubt this very much. But in any case, the bill had been paid in full. The Pella management had taken no action to release the lien. Only through the help of a lawyer did we force Pella to remove the lien so we could complete the refinancing. The windows and doors, so far, appear to merit their reputation for high quality. However, I would never recommend a purchase in El Paso, given the shoddy behavior of the Pella management, which cost us considerably in fees for legal help. It has soured my view of Pella forever.
Description of Work: We purchased a dozen windows and three French doors from Pella in El Paso through our contractor, who installed them in October 2010. The local Pella salesman was very informative and helpful. So we were very surprised by what happened over a year later.

Thank you for the feed back. Pella stands behind all of our products and employee-installations with one of the best warranties in the industry. If there any unresolved issues on your project, please give me a call so that we can have the opportunity to make you 100% satisfied. As for the type of product used on your project - Pella's Impervia fiberglass windows and patio doors do not contain vinyl whatsoever. The fiberglass composite is considered to be a long-lasting alternative to vinyl, 9 times stronger than a quality vinyl product.

To me Pella Windows are the best windows that are available. Again I had five windows on the west side of my house three of which are really the size of doors and we had water leakage there so I had Pella Windows put in. They are a fantastic company because their workers did a beautiful job of installing them. It is a quality product that they have. Before they left they showed me how to work everything. I was very impressed. They take out the entire old window out I thought they would create a real mess and fortunately the weather was fine, they had a very light weight old paper material that come out in a big roll and they would lay that over everything. They don’t move anything and when they finish with the window they just carefully roll it up with possible any debris in it. I walked around the house and I really did not see anything you could not even tell anybody that they had done anything except that new windows were installed. That was very nice.

Everything went without a hitch at every stage: estimate, delivery date, installation. Everyone that I dealt with at Pella was professional and service-oriented. When asked when our house was built (1978) we were told that the "EPA requires lead testing on all homes built in 1978 and previous. The Pella contractors would have to use a special machine to test for lead in the paint in our home." Point 1. This EPA requirement refers to pre-1978 construction (see www.epa.gov under the topic of 'lead testing') Point 2. There is a simple and inexpensive home test available from hardware stores to test for lead in paint. No special machines or procedures are required. We won't be using Pella for this reason - it sounded like a scheme to make easy money from people having replacement windows installed in their homes. Also, Consumer Reports doesn't rate them highly and they're expensive.

Super. I'd do this again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Installed top-of-the-line windows and doors throughout the house. They came when scheduled (cold winter's day), kept cold air out of the house, and installation took three days, I believe. Wood-clad windows (vinyl on outside) double-paned, screens included. All fixtures worked fine - I love these windows. They're easy to clean (all from the inside - both sides!). The steel front door looks like wood and has three deadbolts. The patio door slides smoothly, the screen panel is built in - And I've lowered heating and cooling bills substantially. They're great, as I knew they would be. They are also not inexpensive (at this level - although fine quality less expensive windows are available from Pella).. I have been pleased with all of my dealings - The salesman did NOT try to push the expensive line onn me - I sold myself. The installation guys were great, and the one time I called for a repair, it turned out to be something silly that I could have done myself - No repair needed at all -

They did a good job and you could immediately tell a difference in the window performance. Our house went from being cool to comfortable. The Pella windows are just beautiful. They really reduced our energy bill. The only issue is that the alarm system that we had on the windows is not performing like it was earlier. The price was a bit high.
Description of Work: Pella Windows & Doors of Alameda replaced seven windows.

Thank you very much for your comments. Jeff Reynolds was the representative on this project. At the time of this installation, we did offer the disconnection and reconnection of alarm contacts on doors and windows. Due to increasing liability, we no longer offer this service. The homeowner should plan on having their alarm company prepared to reconnect alarms after the windows and doors are installed. We typically will stub out the alarm wires.
