Gno Landscaping is a small family owned landscaping company who was recommended to us by a friend who had used them. He has no modern equipment and does almost everything by hand. He arrived promptly to start the work and tore out the lawn to prepare for the xeroscaping. Then the work progressed much more slowly. He seemed to have health issues (allergies) and was sick a lot either leaving early each day and some days not showing up at all. After buying the plants, they sat in our yard for about 5 days (the ocotillo laying on its side with roots exposed). When the work was complete, there was quite a bit of black plastic showing and lots of dirt in the rock. All in all, it didn't look too bad, but since then several of our plants have died. In addition, a certified arborist has looked at our trees and has told us that the honey locust in our front yard will die unless we make some modifications. Instead of the black plastic under the rock, a water semipermeable fabric should have been used so that rain and water could reach the roots of the tree. As it is, the black plastic & rock come right to the base of the tree. We will have to pay to have holes put into the plastic & will try to save it. We also found out that trees should never by "topped" the way Ngo chopped the tops off of our trees. We may lose several of these trees also. Possibly we should have known these things, but certainly a landscaper should have been aware of these issues. We have learned an expensive lesson! It was also difficult communicating with Gno since his English is somewhat limited. He was unable to help with the rebate application form for the city. I had to research all the plants myself. I believe he was familiar with the plants but did not know their common names (and certainly not their scientific names.)
Description of Work: Took out the front lawn and a large juniper. Put in new rock & planted several plants (weeping cherry, red yucca, bird of paradise, butterfly bush, Greek yarrow, Turkish speedwell, ocotillo) Extended a sidewalk from backyard to driveway. Pruning 4 fruit trees.
