Description of Work: Forty years ago we bought a Maytag toploader washer that we replaced with a new $900.00 Maytag front loader four years ago even though the old machine was still working well. The main bearing went out on the new one this month and the repair estimate was $800.00. So we had Miller Maytag rebuild an old toploader Maytag for $500 and we couldn't be happier. Cleaner clothes too.

As the Holidays were approaching and family was coming, our Maytag dryer started making a lot of noise. I called Mr. Miller Friday morning, December 21, 2013, in a panic. He immediately scheduled an appointment for that afternoon to assess the dryer. When he arrived, he also knew the previous times that he had worked on the unit (2001). It turned out to be the blower motor, which he replaced within an hour of arriving. As is normal, he also checked over the unit to be sure everything else was OK, and installed a newer version of lint filter that Maytag has developed for our 1979 vintage dryer. We have used Mr. Miller previously to refurbish the dryer and overhaul our Maytag washer. His work is superb.
Description of Work: Mr. Miller replaced a broken blower motor in a Maytag dryer.

Mr. Miller came to my home and examined my washer. He told me exactly what was wrong with it and the cost. He was very friendly, honest and professional and his extensive knowledge of washing machines was amazing. He is not afraid to impart his knowledge to his customers, and I was able to learn a lot from him. He even told me how to keep the filter clean so that I wouldn't get white lint on my black clothes anymore. He was a pleasure to deal with and even fixed a problem that a plumber neglected to do. He is the only one I would trust my Maytag with.
Description of Work: My Maytag was leaking oil from transmission and had other problems. It needed an overhaul.

After a friendly, informative discussion I learned that the washer was a Maytag-branded but Whirlpool-made washer (with Fisher and Paykel technology), and they referred me to another local business that they recommend for those brands. (There I had a very satisfactory experience, described elsewhere). Obviously I don't know much about their actual service, but I've always thought you can read a lot into the business someone *doesn't* take, and how they explain it; this was nice, helpful, and very ethics-forward of them with not a dime to (directly) show for it. If I had a problem with a "real" Maytag I'd definitely call them.
Description of Work: Called them about a problem with a Maytag washer.

Roger came to look at my machine, and said he could rebuild it. We made an appointment for him to pick it up. He said it would take about a week. It was done in four days. He completely rebuilt it. I have a new old Maytag! He is professional, punctual, expert. He seems to genuinely enjoy working with Maytags and getting them in perfect working order.

The problem was a Maytag washer (Mr. Miller ID'd it as a 1984) whose wash setting dial had frozen. He actually talked me through the analysis, including some mechanical intervention, in the hope of sparing us a service charge (and himself a visit: the weather was wicked wintery). That work told him what the issue was and a visit was needed. During the visit, he fixed the dial, but discovered the water had frozen in the water hoses to the machine. He showed us how to focus our garage heating for future deep freezes, suggested his handy-dandy always-accurate indoor garage freeze-registering thermometer (a soup can half-filled with water), and told us to call him when the weather turned if we had damage from the freeze. We did, and he was out the next day and fixed it. He has advised us that a tune-up/overhaul of our current washer will probably get us another 20 years worth of service. We will probably do that.
Description of Work: The $230 was for two visits. The first visit was for a frozen wash setting dial. The second was for damage done during our unusually hard freeze -- the water hoses froze and cracked the connector to the washer.

He coached me to do my own repair, helping me diagnose the problem and telling me where to get the part and how to replace it, answering the first call I made. Since my "Maytag" washer was not really made by Maytag and he doesn't work on anything but genuine Maytags he would not do the work, but was extremely helpful and generous with his time and expertise. I got the part from the supply house he recommended and installed it in about an hour total. The entire repair cost me about $40 in parts. I am sure it would have cost $150-$200 (at least) to have someone come to the house and do it for me. Even though he did no work for me I would recommend him for his clarity, integrity, generosity, and frank honesty.
Description of Work: The service he performed was entirely a phone consultation for which he charged nothing.

I was very satisfied with the outcome. The dryer refused to heat up and took hours to dry a load. Miller's worked on it and got it working fine again. There was no mess left afterward, and things were replaced where they belonged.
Description of Work: Our clothes drier malfunctioned and wouldn't work. Miller's got it working 100% again.

When I called to make an appointment for service, Mr. Miller asked several questions over the phone to eliminate easy solutions. My appointment was scheduled for the next day. He arrived promptly and went straight to work. He showed me each problem before correcting it or replacing the part. He had all the necessary tools and parts to fix the machine. He voluntarily checked for accumulated dryer lint in the hose and the wall vent. Ugh! Lots of gray stuff on the floor! He vacuumed the mess and cleaned each dryer section before returning it to the unit. He tested the dryer after it was reassembled. All of the old parts were bagged in the new replacement parts' bags and lined up on the counter. Mr. Miller was at the house for 2 hours and charged $172 for labor and parts. I was shocked! I expected the bill to be much higher. The dryer runs great! This was an extremely positive experience.
Description of Work: Maytag dryer stopped heating but not tumbling. I called Miller's Maytag Service based on scores from Angie's list and the brand name he serviced. Mr. Miller had the dryer apart in ten minutes locating the problem. He replaced the thermostate, a bearing wheel, and a faulty wire and connection. Without requesting, he cleaned the vent hose and shortened it for better performance. With his chimney sweep materials, he cleaned the vent exhaust leading to the outside. All dryer lint and dryer parts were vacuumed as well as the floor.
