I initially called Jules Construction to provide a quote for work to be done on a retaining wall. After Julian came out to inspect the situation I was told that he would contact me on the following Monday to provide the bid. After Monday came and went I called their number and left a message. After a couple of days passed I tried again. After giving it two weeks I tried one last time to reach Julian for the quote. This was my final attempt. Surprisingly I was able to get reach Julian and he apologized for not getting back to me. He explained that he had thought that the number was given. I accepted his explaination and told him that I would need to review the number given and get back to him in a day or two. I was attempting to get another quote to compare prices, and was in the process of scheduling another company to come out. After having multiple quotes in hand, I decided on Jules Constrution to perform the work. However, after multiple attempts to reach Julian to accept his bid I have not been contacted. This whole process has been a waist of time.
Description of Work: Provided quote for work to be performed however would not return my phone call to accept his bid.

After I didn't receive the promised estimate, I attempted to contact Mr. Gallegos to see if he had finished his calculations or perhaps needed more information. I left two messages and never heard back from Mr. Gallegos. If he did not want to do the work, at the very minimum, he should have contacted me to say so. Not returning messages and leaving potential customers hanging is not professional. I was very disappointed with the whole experience and would definitely not recommend Mr. Gallegos to others.
Description of Work: Mr. Gallegos came to our house to discuss the project and take measurements. He said he would work on an estimate over the weekend and provide a cost estimate the following week.

Outstanding! This wall had been in place for close to three years so I was little concerned about matching the block and color. In the end, the entire addition matches perfectly. They worked fast, precise and were contientious to details involved. Everyone was on time, worked all day, never complained and cleaned up completely each and every day. The end result is a wall that appears as though it was built from the start as is.
Description of Work: Added maximum allowable height to an existing courtyard wall to stop vandals from damaging yard art. We had an existing three-foot high courtyard wall that encloses most of our front yard area. We have (very expensive) yard art consisting of a metal sculpted buffalo and coyote. Over the past 3 years these items were being vandalized by passers-by. On several occasions someone ripped (with pliers) most of the buffalo's head dress off. And someone else (perhaps the same people) tossed mayonnaise jars and shot metal tipped darts at the buffalo. How do we know this? Aside from the visible damage, we have cameras all over the exterior of our home and were able to later view the culprits in action. Unfortunately we were never present during these nefarious activities but at least we have an idea as to who did it. That aside, we grew weary of the repair expense and constant vigilance necessary to prevent the opportunity for the next vandal, so we conceded to raise the wall to 6'. Julian's men completed the job within 3 days, using the same type block and color to match the existing wall.

This job wasn't just block work....it entailed moving tons of soil before starting the project. Additionally a trench had to be dug to accomodate the footers for the wall. This phase was completed on day one. Julian's team began the block work immediately upon inspection of the footer work. They were prompt and on time every day, they cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day as well. The final job turned out exceptionally well with no surprises nor disappointments.
Description of Work: Built a large retaining wall that extends the length of a driveway on the side of our house. It's 200'+ in length with a gradual slope upwards to accomodate the slope of our property and the soil level being retained. We chose split-face block for its attractiveness as well as its strength. Our property is just over an acre and is elevated much higher than our nearby neighbor. This particular side driveway, which allows entry into the rear of the property, was showing extreme erosion. Because we own a heavy RV (16k lbs/dry weight) we were concerned about the possibility of the driveway collapsing. We hired an engineering firm to design the plans and received approval from the city before proceeding with the project. I contacted Julian after the plans were approved and they began the work within one-week. Considering the size of the job they only took a total of 5 days to complete it. This time frame includes the wait for the city inspector to approve the footer work first.

That work turned out very well. However, I have since contacted them back to build a smaller wall. They actually told me I should have had them complete the work while they were out the first time. I didn't appreciate the excuses as to why they wouldn't complete the second job. If it was too small of a project, I wish they would have been honest.
Description of Work: I contacted them to build two walls.

They arrived early and worked hard all day, were pleasant and professional and did a very good job.
Description of Work: They took down an existing cinder block wall, and built about 25' new cinder block wall. They cleaned everything up when they were done and removed all the old blocks, gate, etc.

To begin with the entire project went extraordinarily well. In response to a request for quote from another contractor, who recently retired, Julian, the owner of Jules Construction, called me back the same day, a Friday. He verified the original quoted amount and promised a start date no later than the following Tuesday. As promised, he and his crew showed up on time and began working immediately. They had to deal with a fully landscaped yard with several irrigation zones, pavers, lots of plants and trees in the way, as well as full-size metal sculptures. While doing the job they were extremely careful not to injure or disturb key landscape areas and their clean-up was meticulous! The entire project was completed in 2.5 days. More importantly, they did a precision job with the block. The entire wall is perfectly aligned with all mortar joints even and neatly done. The entire crew was skilled, professional and polite. Bottom line: I moved here in 1998 from the East coast and was already jaded by New Mexico s a half done job is a well done job attitude. My prejudice became reality when I began dealing with numerous contractors and had several custom homes built over the last decade. So called licensed professionals either never showed up for the job or took the money and ran; as was the case with the custom home we currently reside in, an absolute horror story. Lessons learned, I ve become far more skeptical and cautious with any contractor from New Mexico. This is certainly not the case with Julian and his team. Their promptness, professionalism and attention to detail rarely (if never) happens in New Mexico. They ve instilled in me a new found belief that professionalism is alive and well here!
Description of Work: We hired them to construct a courtyard wall, 133' (L) x 32" (H) with two openings for entry gates. The wall is meant to prevent rabbits and jacks from feasting on our front yard plants, yet serve to improve the overall appearance of our property, without hiding our landscape features (metal art, water features, etc). With these factors in mind we didn't want plain concrete block, nor did we want block with stucco; the upkeep of stucco being a primary concern. And forget a framed wall with stucco; equally as costly and far more upkeep than block. So we decided on split-face block (both sides); the strength of block with the attractiveness of stucco. Additionally, our property has a moderate grade down toward the street but we wanted the wall to maintain that critical height of 32". This meant additional work with regard to the concrete footers. All these issues had to be addressed and Julian couldn t have been more accommodating with all of our requests.
