D&L came and designed a system that met our specifications and then delivered on it. It took approx. 2.5 months for all the parts to aarrive and get installed but since it was summer, it didn't matter. D&L wisely installed the new hot water system for the household first and things went smoothly. Now that it is getting cold enough to run the Buderus and debug everything, I've decided to write this review because I can finally comment on the radiant heat. D&L did a very good job. We are able to run the radiant water at a lower temperature and do it more consistently -- the house is comfortable and the wood floors do not have any hot spots. Coupled with the AM-10 outside temperature sensor, the Buderus is able to intelligently anticiapte demand (or the lack thereof when it warms up outside) and adjust the radiant water temperature for optimal performance within the guidelines set by the homeowner. In our case that means the radiant water temp should run between 95 and 110F to avoid overheating the wood floor. As we tweak this system over time we hope to reduce the range to 90F -- 105F. If you are looking for a heating contractor who can install and support an untra-high efficiency system in your home, I can highly recommend D&L. They have been very responsive and professional as we have brought the system up to full operation, and haven't complained about the debugging and tweaking such a complex system requires. Take a look at the pictures to see what a gorgeous installtion job D&L did. It is like the bridge of the Starship Enterprise and has become part of our standard tour when folks as to see our house since the remodel.
Description of Work: During a recent remodel of our home it became obvious that our old hot water / radiant heating system needed to be replaced. New wood floors meant that hot spots couldn't be tolerated (because of expansion & contraction) and we also wanted to separate the radiant hot water from the household hot water. Finally we wanted to reduce consumption of natural gas which was running close to $500 per month during the coldest months. D&L was recommended by our general contractor and they proposed a Buderus high-efficiency system for the radiant heat, and dual 50 gallon Defender hot water heaters for the household. We also wanted electric heaters put in for backup to the Buderus in case natural gas became unavilable (as it did in Feb. 2010). Needless to say, this was a challenging job that required a larger utility room, dual 100KW electric lines, and a complete understanding and rewiring of the thernostat wiring harness -- we have a dozen thermostats.
