The only reason I gave James a "B" on responsiveness was because he was a week late coming by to give us an estimate. When he did come by on Saturday, he spent the entire morning and part of the afternoon going over, in detail, all of our ideas, and giving us all the options we should consider. He has a tremendous amount of experience, and conveyed the different designs, fixtures, work, and appropriate products. He also let us know which items would not be practical or prohibitively expensive for the value we would receive. He is articulate, easy to understand, and very personable. We shared our lunch with him so that we could pursue his estimate which was in enough detail to understand what work he was proposing. Other than missing our first get together, he always let us know, working out with us, his working schedule, and he always showed.James and his helper curtained off the remodeling area in the beginning so as to limit the dust/debris from the rest of the house. And, at the end of each working day, they would clean best they could to minimize the impact on us. They also delayed the removal of the old sink, stove top, and dish washer as long as feasible to make it easier for us to prepare and clean up after meals. James made sure we understood ahead of time, the disruption of our house, the "mess", and doing without a kitchen. Also, he told us about all the time it would take us to work with him throughout in making decisions that continually arise in a project like this. But, it was his attention to detail, and communicating with us that made our new kitchen, state of the art, very usable, and very successful.
Description of Work: Remolded the entire kitchen. James: Helped design with us, the new kitchen layout, including cabinets, counter tops, light fixtures, etc. Removed and hauled away the old cabinets, counter tops, light fixtures, and associated "demo" materials. Retained and extended the tile floor to accommodate the layout and new cabinets. Tore out the old low ceiling, and raised it another foot to give the kitchen a much larger image. Remodeled the existing skylight to provide better lighting and design. Installed new kitchen cabinets and hardware. Installed new kitchen lighting to include track lighting in the skylight, canned light around perimeter of the ceiling, pendant lighting over the eating bar, and 3 LED string/puck lights under corner cabinets. Replaced kitchen sink with deeper, sunken double sink, and replaced faucet with new integrated sprayer/faucet. Installed new water line with filtration for the refrigerator ice-maker/water dispenser. Lowered the eating bar to standard height. Textured and painted over the old brick wall supporting the eating bar. Installed a new 30" double wall oven acquired by us. Installed new, absolutely beautiful granite counter top, back splash, and eating bar top. Reinstalled existing appliances such as dishwasher, stove top, range hood exhaust with lights and fans, trash masher, and garbage disposal. Painted the new kitchen, the trim, walls, and new ceiling. The $21,000 included the cost of the contractor and helpers, new high quality cabinets, beautiful granite, but not the new double wall oven, and eventual French door bottom freezer refrigerator.
