Buyer Beware! Carrillo Roofing replaced our roof in 2014. We contacted him when we notice water spots in the ceiling in a different part of the house. Although he was responsive and sent roofers, they blamed the swamp cooler vent. In 2015, when replacing the swamp cooler, the workers noticed shingles falling off the roof and notice zero tar paper. Called Carrillo Roofing again, this time he was less responsive. He reluctantly sent roofers to redo the roof. In 2016 the original leaks returned. Carrillo Roofing did not return any phone calls. A grievance was submitted to the State Licensing. The State said “poor quality work” was not a reason to file a grievance only if he did not follow permit procedures. In 2017, the leaks worsen and required attention. We got quotes from other roofing companies and confirmed the leaks were from poor work and not hail damage. After calling Carrillo Roofing daily for two weeks, he returned the phone call. He sent roofer to repair roof. As the roofers walked on the roof, shingles fell off. After several inspections by his roofers, he replaced the roof for the 3rd time. NOW the leaks have progressed to gushing water when it rains. The ceiling drywall is severally damaged.

I ran into this guy at the Home Depot. I was looking for various bids on our stucco. He responded very positively and we set up a day to look at the house. It would be easy to say that he gave us the 2nd lowest bid, but he was only 500.00 cheaper than the highest bid we considered, so it didn't seem so far fetched. He referred to himself as Carlos Carrillo. IT IS MY OWN STUPID MISTAKE FOR NOT CHECKING ANGIES LIST FIRST!!! THERE, I said it. He was very attentive up to the first day of work, or rather the END of the first day of work. We had originally talked about a 1200.00 area of stucco work to be done on the house. We were having windows done at same time (not intentionally, but it just happened) and the request for the additional work around them (the patching) was going to bring the total to 1900.00. Needless to say, we were ecstatic. In the beauty of looking at the new windows and stucco work starting, we knew there was a deposit that would need to be made and so we squared away this deposit of 1000.00. We even notated Stucco and Windows on our check. The day ended early because of lightening we were seeing. There were no arguments from me in seeing it come towards us. HERE COME THE PROBLEMS! After day one, CARLOS would set a time that he was going to come over and miss it. I would call him after his group had not arrived and he would tell me that they would be there soon. Now I expected my job to be done in a few days, not a few hours here and a few hours there. I went up on the roof after the first day and saw some really questionable work. This "First" coat they had applied had several holes underneath the meshing. I have seen several people have their roofs done before and have never seen this. In addition; I have done concrete work before and I know what happens when you don't mix it thoroughly. There was a 20 linear foot area that was discolored and already cracking. That is a bad undercoat. To add salt to the wound, the window installers noted to my wife and I that the stucco workers had gotten grey coat material on our brand new windows, as it fell down from the trowling. These guys were not even paying attention to this. I called Mr. Carrillo to bring all this to his attention. It was 5 days before he came back again. I was noting to him all the holes in the base layer and the splatter on the windows and walkway. He seemed surprised enough to actually tell me that "most people don't go on the roof" (which should have been my first whack in the head). He said he was there to make me happy, so he would get it fixed and somebody should be here by 11:30. The next day at about 1:20, I had to call Mr. Carrillo to see if anyone was going to come. At about 2:30 he sent only 2 guys to get to work. They were here for only about 1.5 - 2 hours. We didn't know when they left. They just took off. The edges didn't look any different and our two atrium areas were still completely untouched. I was getting mad now. I called Carlos about 4:30 and told him we needed to meet to set up a time table. He asked if we could meet in an hour and never showed or called. I tried calling him but only got his voicemail. THIS IS WHERE IT ENDED. We tried repeatedly for several days and from different phones. We only got his voicemail each time. I sent letters to the state agencies and the Attorney General. On a whim, I looked at both Angies List and the BBB. There it was plain as day. He had taken somebody else for 2500.00 just a month earlier. THE REASON FOR MY UPDATE So the state said it could take up to a year for an investigation. Now I find out that since a permit was not needed and no code actually violated it is considered simple fraud and abandonment of a project. This falls into the realm of the claims court. This means I have to go spend more time and money (at least initially) to go after him and his license. On top of that I see he got somebody else, in the BBB complaints. They; however, got money back from him. Now that is an additional motivating factor. Out of all this, I was very disappointed to find that only permit and code violations can trigger a state investigation in someone who is obviously just a crook. I do not like that the more common crime (abandoning a project) means that you are totally on your own, to get back what you have lost. As a last note, please be advised that he is using different names, but still the same license number. License #92925 Ricardo Carrillo Custom - From BBB website Ricardo Carrillo Custom Homes - His Contract with me Ricardo Carrillo Stucco and Roof (or Roof and Stucco) - On his truck Carrillo's Construction - His website (down as of when I checked today) Carlos Carrillo - His introduction and conversations with me. If I would have just checked with Angie... I would have been so much better.
Description of Work: To all my fellow Angies List members; DO NOT USE THIS INDIVIDUAL !!!! HE HAS CURRENTLY RUN OUT ON US FOR A PARAPET STUCCO JOB. We were supposed to meet with him last Saturday to get some sort of timeline on the completion of the project. We were only getting an hour and a half of work done on the last two visits. HE NEVER CALLED OR SHOWED!!! Out of want to get the project done, we called him and only got voice mail. We left messages (both my wife and I from different phones at different times). He offered a 1200.00 bid for our parapets

Description of Work: Ricardo Carrillo Owner of Carrillos Custom homes gave me an estimate to start a plaster job. He told me to give him $2500.00 to buy material and start working. I wired $2500.00 and he told me he would start working Monday. He cancelled for Wednesday he cancelled again for Tuesday and again for the following Thursday. Finally I called him and told him to return the money because I had other things i had to do. He told me he was taking out $350 from the $2500 for coming to my house to give me an estimate and he told me to find someone else to do the job. He ignores my messages and phone calls. Its been almost a month and I have not seen my money. Don't do business with this company and if you do DO NOT PAY until some work is done. He is not professional and I will have further information on the outcome of the civil complaint
