Owner came out and very pleasant. They did a nice job, very helpful and worked very hard.

Brad was very, very pleasant and professional. He offered useful advice and instruction on adjusting sprinkler heads. I would definitely call By The Yard again in the future for landscape and irrigation needs.

They arrived at 7:30 as planned, Brad, the manager (owner?) ran through the details with me to make sure we were in agreement about what was to be done, did the work in about 5 hours, checked with me to make sure everything was correct and gave instructions on how to work the system. They left nothing undone and Brad very clear in his communications. They did a great job on everything we had them do and I would not hesitate to hire them again. Also, they undercut the competition by more than $1000 dollars for this job.

Brad Jacobsen and his crew member showed up exactly when they said they would and had the repair accomplished in about 15 minutes or less. While his crew member was digging up the deeply buried larger line, Brad repaired the smaller line break and looked over my current irrigation system and landscape. He explained how he does business and the various services his company provides. He gave me some suggestions for other plants I might want to try and a tip on watering my trees. There was no sense of it being a "sales pitch." I was very impressed. Even though he received a couple of phone calls during that time, he politely apologized for having to take them, but got back to me swiftly after the calls ended. His name had been given to me by a good friend who lives several miles away in a gated community where By the Yard has recently been hired to maintain the shared compound landscapes as well as making their services available to individual residents. I called him the very next day after receiving his contact information from my friend and am very glad I did. I am sure I will be using his this comapny again for some routine maintenance as well as new plantings and upgrades to my current landscape. He understood my desire to have a highly sustainable and organic backyard and to protect bees by avoiding use of pesticides and herbicides like Roundup. It was a totally positive experience.

They were prompt, professional and knowledgeable. Brad is very good at what he does, it is worth the price to pay someone who knows what he is doing.

I was impressed with Brad. He was obviously knowledgeable and explained the things he was doing as well as answering my questions. He made suggestions and, without any pressure, offered additional services I might want in the future, which I am certainly considering. The cost for the call was below what I had expected, and the prices he indicated for the additional services were reasonable. I will definitely contact him for my future landscaping needs.

Brad and Donna returned my initial phone call promptly, and we set a date for the work. Brad arrived exactly when promised. He inspected my sprinkler electronic control box, which had developed a "runaway" clock circuit that was chronically running fast. Brad replaced the box with a new (and more modern) box and provided me a half-hour of training in all its features. Brad was then able to excavate and repair a damaged sprinkler head in the front yard. My initial concern that a section of the horizontal header line would have to be dug up and replaced proved unfounded, and Brad was able to re-seat the vertical sprinkler in the existing horizontal header. Job took about 1 1/2 hours start to finish - lengthened by Brad helping me practice with my new controller box.

Brad was prompt and courteous. He identified the causes of the leaks in our irrigation system and repaired them quickly. Taught us what to expect as normal. He corrected poor work done by previous landscaper. We wish we had started with By The Yard.

The company did a great job. They were punctual, pleasant, and efficient, and everything works like I expected.

I had an underground leak in my drip line system. They promptly came out for the estimate, told what I might run into, and the potential cost depending on what they found. I asked them to do the work, and they scheduled at my convenience. Fixed the leak in a timely fashion, and tested it. Also fixed another leak at a sprinkler head. I was very satisfied with the entire experience.

Great Service! We had a scary leak resulting from bad work from another company. The other company ignored our calls, but By The Yard came that same day and fixed everything the way it should have been done the first time.

We had trouble with sod drying up and many bare spots. Sod developed a fungus. While Brad, did get the lawn dr to spray; it would get better and then need to sprayed again. In the end, we had to have it sprayed 4 times and stilled never had a healthy lawn. (We believe the sod was of poor quality and we weren't happy with manner it was laid; it was left with gaps and never looked like a healthy thick green lawn. While the owner and workers were prompt an seemed professional, I believe there work and product was shoddy. I would not recommend or ever use again.

Brad spent a lot of time with us discussing the project beforehand, and was spot-on at remembering what we decided. He and his crew worked quickly and efficiently, even helping my husband with a separate sprinkler project he was having trouble with. The pruning was very artistic. We love the result and think our backyard looks like a Japanese garden, simple and beautiful. Brad agreed to make some last-minute changes and did not nickel and dime us about details. His price was right in the middle of the other two estimates we got, and was well-worth it. He is a very personable fellow who seems to like his work and takes pride in a job well-done.

Brad and his team worked nothing short of a miracle in our front yard!!! They were the greatest team to work with. This was a project that could have been very stressful and time consuming. These guys were in and out of our yard, and the neighborhood, in less that 5 days with very little impact on us or the neighbors. Brad and his crew were professional, courteous and responsive from day one. We had several "little" requests in addition to the big project and they met each and every one. For example, we asked them to lay down paving over the concrete sidewalk but to make sure and grade it so that rain water doesn't pool up next the house, a problem we've had for years as the house has settled. No problem, the pavers are graded and there is nothing to trip anyone walking from the concrete pad to the pavers, it's all smooth and beautiful. We asked for (and got) sort of a wall on the one side to kind of cover up the trash can and recycle bin, they did that beautifully. We asked for some nice soil to supplement our garden out back and they not only put the soil in the garden bed, but spread out whatever was left on the dry areas out back where buffalo grass is dry and yukky. In the end, Brad sat down with us and educated us on how to maintain our beautiful new yard and run the irrigation system to keep everything in good shape. Ours was a large project, we planned for quite some time to have the work done, and we feel very lucky to have come across By the Yard Landscaping on Angie's list.

The job was done beautifully. Brad provided us with a reasonable quote and performed the work in a timely manner despite an issue with his supplier running out of the quoted sod. Because Brad had provided us with a quote already and work had begun on the yard Brad went out of his way to a different supplier in order to obtain the sod and install it when we needed it with no additional costs involved. Bravo, a company that actually lives by the motto the customer comes first. Great Job!

Very well. Called to confirm times, explained what he would do then showed me the areas indeed were fixed. Also gave me more than a dozen irrigating heads (can't remember official name of the ends to the smallest irrigation tubes, set at 2 gallon per hour). Brad Jacobsen was very pleasant, professional. I will use his business again. He also did this work quickly and efficiently.

This was a really, really excellent experience. Brad at By The Yard was friendly, communicative, responsive and expert. This was a large, tricky sprinkler installation at a private residence, so I interviewed several companies before committing to By The Yard. Brad came out on time to do the free estimate, and replied quickly and completely via e-mail to questions and issues I brought up over the next several weeks. He was very honest about problems he could foresee with the existing water supply, grounds access, and so forth. Brad was extremely versatile in terms of scheduling, and fine-tuned the design via e-mail exchanges until I was satisfied. We set a date, and the crew was there on time each day, working energetically for three full days. The got the complex, extensive system of sprinklers, emitter tubes and hydrants installed in three days. By the end of the job, the system was installed, adjusted and tested, everything was backfilled and tamped, all bricks and other edging were replaced, and a full load of top-soil amendment had been carefully spread across not just the lawn areas, but into the planters, flower beds. Brad gave me excellent instruction on the operation of the controls, how to adjust the heads, dealing with minor issues if they occurred, left the manual and adjusting tool. I was able to make the minor adjustments I wanted to two of the sprinklers, but otherwise, Brad's initial setup was perfect. The coverage is excellent, and all planters are well serviced. The controller Brad chose for the system is easy to operate and very versatile. The system components he chose are highest quality, and the rotator-type sprinkler heads provide excellent coverage and are really fun and beautiful to watch! There was one minor problem with the routing of a feed hose to one of the planters. I sent e-mail to Brad asking him to fix the problem, and he was out the next morning to finish the job. As I said, overall a really, really excellent experience. I can HIGHLY recommend By The Yard Landscaping and Irrigation.

This was the second time I hired Brad and by far, he exceeded expectations, transforming a broken concrete and paver backyard into a very classy outdoor space and living area. He's been the best contractor I've worked with for anything I've done in terms of landscaping or outdoor design. Not just his ideas, but price, professionalism and quality of work. He's part of every job and present for each part of it as opposed to other companies that are happy to be present when giving you a quote, yet not there for the job. Can recommend him without any reservations - top notch guy and everyone in his crew was great.

The initial work was good and timely I had a problem with one of his subcontractors accused me of having a check bounce but it wasn't my check. Brad did address this promptly. The price was good and he was timely with the work. It is a pretty basic plan nothing that required a lot of creativity. Why I won't use them again. Less then one year of the big job they completed I had additional work scheduled for a couple of trees to be put in. Honestly I was so angry I deleted the e-mail I received from them so I don't know the exact date of our last contact or I would put that in here. One of the pipes in the sprinkler system broke, I do know it was within a year ( I have been in my house less then 3 years) I called for a repair and he charged me 100 for less then 10 min. of work and a small pvc pipe. I was shocked that after paying him over $14,000 the company would not stand behind their work. Brad claimed it froze and that is not covered. It had been over a week since anybody in the area had pipes freeze. I talked to a few other landscapers and they said a pipe like that is unlikely to freeze since it was above ground and that for a big job they would have fixed it for free. Especially since I had additional work the company already scheduled. I canceled my upcoming work that he was scheduled to do and will not use them again. Although he did a nice job...I want a company that stands behind their product. When people have asked me about who did my work I shared my experience. I now use a different landscaper.

I noticed a leak and emailed Brad....he came out the same day and fixed it! Brad had previously installed a sprinkler/drip system in my back yard and did a terrific job! Price was reasonable and it took only a couple of hours. His workers were very professional and even programed my sprinkler settings.

Things went well. When getting bids it was a little hard to compare apples to apples because By the Yard used some sub contractors (electrician and plumber). The other companies I got bids from had their own in house electricians and plumbers.
