By The Yard Landscaping & Irrigation

Brad came and evaluated our sprinkler system. He spend a long time checking the sprinkler heads and the way our system was set up. He checked both the back and front systems. He gave us suggestions on ways to save water and also gave us good advice on setting our timer and how to use our control box to our advantage. He is going to give us an estimate on work that needs to be done to make our system better. I would definitely consider him for future work. I give him an A+++++++++++++++++++++ and recommend him highly. Update: We hired Brad and his crew to excavate existing lateral lines in backyard; connected two heads from Zone #3 to Zone #4; installed new pressure regulator and connected existing drip to new pressure regulator. Installed 14 new 1000 series MP rotator nozzles throughout front & rear lawn; extended drip line into front corner by garage where no line existed; and installed two new gaskets (sorry, don't know correct term for part that was installed). Very professional and extremely pleasant. Brad came out and checked to make sure everything was working properly. This was one of the best experiences, if not THE best, we have had with an Angie's list business. We would highly recommend this business to anyone and can't say enough about the terrific quality of work they do.

Brad called ahead and arrived promptly at the schedule time. He thoroughly inspected my entire irrigation system that is badly in need of repair. He outlined several options for me and ways I could save some costs. Rather than just throw a large estimate at me for the entire job he spent considerable time showing me what needs to be done, even demonstrating how to do some of the repairs myself and the exact the material required. I plan on using him in the future once I get some new lines put down so he can come back and tie the whole system together with a proper valve box and controller. He definitely knows his stuff and one of a small handful contractors I've dealt with that I can unequivocally recommend.

The cleanup and pruning was wonderful. Pruning of the Yuccas and evergreens was perfect. Brad also is working to help us save one endangered evergreen. The new irrigation lines are great. So far the new plants are doing well. We plan to have Brad back for some additional irrigation and plantings. When we chose this firm it was with an eye towards a long term relationship. We were both impressed with Brad's knowledge of plants and foliage. His punctuality, response, and professionalism is first rate.

I must admit Brad was sometimes a little hard to get a hold of during the planning and estimation process. Brad and his crew started as scheduled and were on task every time I checked in. Work took 4 days and came out great! Even my neighbors regret using Hilltop for their landscaping needs!

It went well. Brad responded to my initial contact within a couple of hours was then at my home to provide an estimate not long after that. Brad and crew were on time and efficient. The work was done quickly and cleanup was excellent. Crew was cordial and pleasant. They even double checked the sprinkler system to ensure the installed plants were getting water.

We found "By The Yard" for landscaping. They were great. They were nice. They were easy to work with. They did what we wanted to do. They were conscious of our budget. They were very professional. They came when they said they would. They were prompt. They worked and they did a good job. They cleaned up. It was great to work with. They also let us do a part of the work too which saved us some money.

They are excellent. They have a very competitive price and are always on time. They have done landscaping and irrigation for me in the past, and I will continue to use them.

Brad was very responsive to my first telephone call, came to my house and explained all options to me. He was laid-back and not pushy about what needed to be done. I contracted with him, and he came within a week to do the work. Took out my old backyard lawn, made sure to provide an upgraded underneath layer, and then installed the new turf. He also found grubs in the yard and treated those to make sure there were no future problems. Also installed new water-saving sprinkler heads. Brad and his crew were professional, polite, and very good at what they did. Cleaned up the backyard and left professionally. Brad came back to personally discuss the installation with my wife and I. A great guy who is in it for the right reasons. Loves what he does and that comes through. Will always use Brad for any landscaping work that we have in the future.

They did a really good job, he was very informative.

Brad was prompt and responsive throughout the process. He made an effort to help me understand my options and communicated clearly. I hadn't planned on such a large scope of work, but his estimates were so low that I decided to let them do some work I had planned on doing myself. The folks were very clean and courteous, having made a good impression on my sister in law, who worked from home during the project. I happily recommend them to anyone in need of serious landscaping work.

Work was done in a timely manner, very professional. Finished faster than stated time to complete. The clean-up after the work was good. Very happy with the services provided. The dumpster company used left a mess after pick-up of dumpster. The company is hard to get in touch with by phone, email is the best option for communication.

We're new to New Mexico & unfamiliar with drip systems and taking care of the plants, etc. in our yard. The prior homeowners suggested By The Yard and it was a wonderful recommendation. Brad was friendly, professional, and listened to our concerns/wishes. He spent the time to teach us about our drip system, checked the lines & fixed a few problems & made suggestions that we (ourselves) could do in the future to enhance our yard. We will definitely call By The Yard when we need help with our landscaping.

Work was done efficiently and thoroughly. No problems! Brad had finished the job before us a day early and called to see if we wanted him to come on Thursday instead of Friday. I was anxious to get this done and was glad to have them come a day early. Brad and the crew had all of their equipment when they came - he knew what we needed and it was all there for the crew!

He fixed the sprinkler problem, and gave some other helpful advice on yard maintenance. He also mentioned that his goal to be ethical and transparent in his dealings with clients, and gave some examples. Where have you heard that recently? His prices were reasonable. He appears to deserve every laudatory comment he has on Angie's list.

They removed our old Bermuda grass and chain-link fence and created a park-like environment. They arrived on time. All the workers were reliable and honest and I felt very much at ease having them work for us.

When I called the business all I got was a recorded message instructing me to leave a name, address, telephone number and what work I wanted done. The recording went on to say I would receive a call back as soon as possible. I called the business twice on 7/8/2014 and left messages on both occasions. I did the same on 7/9/2014. I never received any response. I read the reviews of this company and saw that another individual had the same problem I did. I recall the owner responding to the review indicating that he never received the messages. Now that two people have had the same problem perhaps the owner should take this as a suggestion to ensure he has a fully functioning message/answering machine. This business owner may do great work (other reviews), but I called him four times in two days and never got a call back.

Superb. He was prompt & courteous. The end result was awesome and very unique compared to the other yards in the area.

Brad had planned for a three day job, but they were able to complete it in only two days. The first day they removed the sod, reworked all of the sprinkler lines that were to be moved (or converted to a drip system for the raised bed area) and replaced the heads on the front sprinklers. They also removed a little sod out front and reworked those sprinklers as well. They also dug the area for the fire pit circle. On the second day, they were able to first lay down weed block cloth, prepare the soil for the sod and lay the sod, move a truckload of soil to the back yard, and get the crusher fines delivered for me to use later. The last job was to install the stone circle and cement in the outer ring, and make sure that the sprinklers were all functioning properly. Brad made a trip back on Friday to check on the sod and the sprinklers to make sure they were working and the sod was getting watered sufficiently. We are very pleased with the outcome of the work, and have recommended his company to a neighbor and to a relative for them to have work done. Despite the extreme hot spell that came just after the sod was laid, we are seeing good results with the new lawn and enjoying having it in place of the dying lawn we had before. Brad had good advice for me about other improvements I plan to make in the future in the garden side of the yard.

I originally contacted Brad Jacobsen (owner) to do a sprinkler system checkup. I found his company on Angie's List, and his profile mentioned that he installs Belgard pavers. He quoted the patio the same day as the sprinkler service and we scheduled the installation. The tricky part of this patio was the span of dirt between 2 concrete pads--we needed a solid foundation there at the same height as the pads. Brad knew exactly how to design this--the dirt was excavated several inches, 4 tons of crushed concrete was placed and compacted, and then 1" of sand was placed and compacted over the new and old concrete. Then pavers were then installed on the new foundation. The foundation was designed so that the new patio surface was very close to the level of the floor inside the house. The job went perfectly. It began exactly as scheduled, and materials were delivered right when needed. The price included a bobcat rental, which greatly helped loading the gravel into wheelbarrows and later loading the excess dirt for removal. Moving 4 tons of concrete from the street to the back of our house and then bringing all of the excavated dirt to the street was very hard work, but Brad and 2 workers had it done in just a few hours. Almost all of the full pavers were in place by the end of Day 1. I was very pleased to see so much effort going into the foundation. Day 2 saw the placement of pavers that needed to be cut. This was followed by mortaring the outside edges of the new patio. Then polymeric sand was brushed into the joints. Cleanup was very thorough. They even cleaned up the street where the pile of concrete had been. They completed the entire job by the end of Day 2! I am very happy with the results. Brad's expertise in designing and installing the patio was evident throughout. He also is an expert bobcat operator. He was very professional and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend him and his team.

It went very well. Brad was very responsive to questions I had both before and after the work was done. He was creative in his design and I love the outcome. They were on time and very friendly. They were very good with my dogs who were present in the yard at the time.

Brad Jacobsen came to my home to look at my sprinkler and irrigation system in preparation for the spring watering season. I have several zones of sprinklers that needed attention. Brad was thorough and really understood the system. He arrived and got straight to work. He checked the entire system and let me know the status of my zone irrigation. Additionally, I have never really understood how my irrigation timer worked and he was very patient as he went through the timing and zones to show me how to set the timer to best work with my schedule and keep the yard healthy. Brad and his 2 assistants came at the agreed time, worked hard and efficiently, and were done in 4 hours. They cleaned up the mess and answered all my questions before they left. Ten days later everything is working fine.

Brad was right on time, checked out the sprinkler system and heads, did the necessary repairs and made sure everything was running correctly. A great transaction from start to finish; absolutely recommend him.
