I ended up doing a big upgrade that was a couple of thousand of dollars, but that is what I wanted to do. I actually got them out here because I had a leak in the system and I needed a tune up and kind of fix a leak, but then I ended up doing some other things and so it worked out well. But first of all, he told me he was a two-man company, he and another guy, and then when I had the work done, it was two other guys that came and he wasn't here and they didn't speak very good English, I don't speak very good Spanish, and they didn't even know - they didn't have the conversation I had with him about what my expectations were or what they were going to do. So when they heard it, it was like news to them, this stuff. It was like, "Well, we didn't know about that, we didn't know about that." I thought he would have been here doing the work because it was a two-man company. And then I had a weed issue and he said he was going to do some research for me and he never did and then when I got the bill, there was something wrong with the bill and I called him again, and he did give me the discount again like I deserved, but when he came back out again, just about the sprinklers, he never closed the loop with me. But they did do a good job.

It went very well. It turned out to be a minor problem that Mr Jacobsen fixed for no charge. He could easily have persuaded me to do an unnecessary repair, but did not. I am very happy with the experience and will definately use his company in the future.

We called Brad to ask him to come by and give us a quote for the repair of the sprinkler valves. He came the same day and gave us a very reasonable quote and advice as far as repairing or replacing. He came the next day and did the job competently. The sprinklers have been working great since and would definitely use him again. We highly recommend By the Yard Landscaping and Irrigation for any irrigation work.

It turned out just fine. They took care of what needed to be done. It took a while to get them to come out.

Mr. Jacobson as well as his fellows are on the spot for sure. Mr. Jacobson was on time for the estimate. He took the time to actually listen to me, what I needed AND wanted. This is a rare thing these days. I was asked how I preferred communication and best times for same. I was provided a very clear and professional estimate and terms of service. Mr. Jacobson went the extra mile and had the City come out and mark where underground pipes/lines are so as to NOT dig where it would cause a problem. On the day of instillation, these fellows thought it through, trenched only where needed, distributed excess dirt nice and neat...... not in a heap. They made sure everything was not only working, but working well, that the sprinklers distributed where needed in a most efficient manner. These fellows cleaned up after themselves as they went along and did not waste time at the end of the project. Not in a hurry, these fellows did the work with confidence and courtesy. Also a rare thing these days. Mr. Jacobson called next day to make sure I was happy with the product and service, did I have questions, and to remind me to give the tree a long drink of water to ensure it's transition and life. En Short, this is the company you want to do business with. Next spring I will have him come out and put in a new system in the front yard. I would recommend By The Yard to anyone that truly cares about their home, Mr. Jacobson really does care.

Mr. Jacobsen and his crew were friendly and professional. They finished the job in one day. Mr. Jacobsen explained everything which was done to my husband and answered questions.

Brad was very prompt and friendly with the estimate, suggesting a few things that we might want to change about our yard so that the sprinkler coverage would be better. We were told it would be a two-day job, and they managed to finish it in one day, which was nice. They showed up on time and were very polite. They also cleaned everything up before they left. There were definitely a couple of problems, though. When Brad arrived to do the job, we had rearranged our garden beds (as he had suggested, so the area for the grass was more square, without any cutouts in it). He didn't mention this, didn't ask about it, and immediately started placing flags for sprinkler heads where they WOULD have been if we hadn't changed anything. I'm glad I was there and noticed what he was doing. I said that we wanted the grass all the way to the wall. An estimate is just that, not a detailed contract, and this was something he had suggested in the first place, so he should definitely have checked to see what the plan was. We renegotiated the quote to include a larger valve box, since there would be more square footage of turf. However, if I hadn't said anything, we'd have a 3-foot strip of dirt between the grass and the wall - sort of like our own little warning track. We had also had to remove a lot of rock and sand from the yard to make room for the grass. There had been paving stones and garden beds in the yard previously. Brad and his crew didn't level the dirt before putting the sod down, so now there are little hills and valleys all over, which makes it very difficult to mow--the grass can't be cut evenly. The other problem is that the sprinkler heads aren't aligned properly. Several of them hit the wooden fence, which wouldn't be surprising except that they're hitting a fence behind a 3-foot-deep garden bed with nothing growing in it (except weeds, now that they have a steady supply of water). I also currently have a patch of dead grass that doesn't get watered at all. We didn't notice it until now (two months later) because of all the rain we've gotten.

It was a hard to reach them initially, and I kept calling back and eventually got a return call. I had scheduled service with another sprinkler company but had to cancel due to a family emergency. Since I had received a call back from By the Yard, I called again and got a prompt reply this time. Brad came the next day. It's a very small company and am glad I kept trying because I had a good feeling about them. Brad was great -- personable and knowledgable. He showed me how to clear a plugged emitter and gave me some basic information about my system. I knew of a few problems where water was spraying everywhere but he found several more by listening. He showed me how to increase the flow in some of the emitters and sprayers, too. He reprogrammed my system to increase the run time of the drip system and decrease the time on the sprayers. He also told me I need to mow more often, for better grass health, and identified a tree that needs to be removed from a garden bed. Brad even helped me move a large, decorative piece of wood away from a wall where may cat was escaping the backyard. I was so relieved when the work was complete. I have some plants that desperately need to go in the ground but wasn't sure about emitter location and flow. I had already killed some wild flowers I'd moved because I didn't carefully check for water flow in that area. The spring check was on special for about $70 plus parts. I don't know how much the parts will be but am not expecting them to be expensive. I would definitely use Brad and By the Yard again! I'm very happy and relieved.

We contacted the company and they arrived within 24 hours for a quote, and upon acceptance arrived to perform the work again within 24 hours. The work was done quickly and professionally, and now having a couple months of sprinkler use, we've had no issues with performance. Also, the price was a fraction of the other quotes we received.

While on a 3000 mile, week long road trip with my 76 year-young mother, I learned that she was concerned about the condition her large front and back yard (9600 sqft +) would be in when she returned as her sprinklers (original to the 45 year old home) had not been working properly....for years....and she was hand watering which took her two days. This lush yard is her pride and joy and sense of therapy. I immediately called Angie's List for (3) referrals and set up appointments upon our return Wednesday prior to the Memorial Holiday. The company that we chose was By The Yard because of the owner, Brad Jacobsen. I wanted to be on the appointment with my mom to offer security and support but was very limited on my time before travelling home out of state. Brad was very patient and astute to my frantic insistent of immediacy and personally came out Friday mid morning of the Memorial Weekend holiday. He had been tied up in a Board Meeting, of which he is the President, and was late for the appointment. However, he called and explained the situation which I appreciated. While we were away, one of my mother's 45 year old Silver Leaf Maple tree's had left a deposit of 2-3 20 ft. branches which covered 1/3 of the yard and over several of the sprinkler's. Brad happily dragged the branches out of the way onto the driveway and offered patience, understanding, knowledge and creative solutions to my mom's needs as well as accommodating her budget. He stated that he would try to get one of his crew that afternoon after finishing a very large landscape project but if not he would work it in early Tuesday after the holiday weekend. Not only did his crew man, Tavo, arrive that afternoon, spent quality time repairing/replacing the sprinkler heads to her satisfaction but also agreed to come by the next morning to cut and haul away the large branches in my mom's driveway (of which we paid him separately). He was very respectful, friendly, professional and efficient. We were so appreciative to Brad's quick response to my mom's yard needs, especially on a holiday weekend! His professionalism, personality and direct input was also appreciated. I would highly recommend Brad and his company's many services as he is a legitimate, knowledgeable and upstanding professional in the industry which is very difficult to find these days! This house is the first time I have had an automated sprinkler system. I just wanted a professional to check it out and teach me how it works. Brad was great. He was very fast and efficient doing the repairs, yet patient in showing me how things function. I am very happy with the service, and he is now in my contacts list for future service.

We were extremely happy with Brad's professionalism, punctuality and quality. Most importantly that he quickly gets the work done without over selling us with more products. He finds the problem and fixes them within a reasonable budget. He knows what he is doing. Brad first came on 4/27. I told him that we had an issue of the pond overflowing and trickling water into the street. I told him we think it is caused by the sprinkler system shooting into the pond after we removed a big plant that was too prickly for our toddlers. He quickly made a couple fixes to the sprinkler system so it only sprayed water to the grass and not to the pond. He then changed the sprinkler heads to a couple other system so that water shoots only to the area that had grass and plants. He also blocked off all the drip system that did not have plants to water so we can conserve water. He set the irrigation system to the ideal setting. He was done within the hour. He said he will come back to work on the garden irrigation system within that week. Brad called on Thursday and said he can come on Friday. His second visit was 5/1 the same Friday, just as he promised. He brought another worker, and brought in all the tubes and wall irrigation system he purchased at Lowes, and quickly connected the system to the wall faucet, dug a hole in the ground so that none of the hoses was visible and set a small drip system to all my vegetables. Took less than an hour. This low budget option was what I wanted and he made it happen. I am excited to start my vegetable garden! My pond over flowed again a week after. seems like there was still an issue, but I was not sure what. Called Brad on 5/7, and he called back 5/8 saying he can come over. He came and he investigated further and found the rose bush roots had pierced a hole into the drip system hose. He quickly replaced the underground hose with a new hose. He did this all within 30 min and did not charge me extra. That made me happy. I will definitely call Brad again and have referred him to my friends. I can't imagine asking anyone else. thanks Brad! PS: In the past, I had other big companies come and give me a quote, and their quote was much higher for both the spring fix, and a new simple irrigation system for my garden. Especially when I consulted that I needed a irrigation system for my small vegetable garden, despite the fact that I really needed a low budget simple system, all they offered me was a quote for a installing a new irrigation system in the ground costing me about $500-$1000 range. When asked if they could just install a simple system using my wall faucet, they said I can buy their product and install myself but that was outside their service. That made me drop the project last year... That was too confusing and time consuming. I have a toddler and a baby. I don't have the luxury to work a couple hours to create the irrigation system. But Brad was able to accommodate my request and I am super happy. He even gave me tips on what vegetables he has success on! Thanks!

It went great. I found Brad to be very accessible. His price was fair and the work was completed quickly and professionally. He also offered some suggestions for landscaping (I just moved into the home this winter, so I'm in the middle of some landscaping projects). I have no doubt I will be hiring Brad again in the future.

Owner Brad was knowledgeable and professional. Called him for an estimate to replace my system, as it was inoperable. After few changes and repairs, system was operating enough to put off major work. Also got estimate for installing system in front yard. Have had another sprinkler company give estimates, and the others suggested major work rather than the simpler but equally workable solutions Brad suggested. We're new to the area and unfamiliar with how to manage an ABQ yard; Brad spent a lot of time answering our questions. He was very personable and clearly knows his business. Highly recommended.

Bought an AL Big deal for a sprinkler check. I usually do it myself, but like to have a professional come out every 5 years or so and take a look. He did a great job, checked all the sprinklers and bubblers. Didn't try to sell us anything else since everything was in good shape. Would definitely hire again.

Brad arrived early and went right to work. He had an over-all look at the sprinkler system. He took time to review all the sprinklers for the lawn and also checked the bubblers in the garden. He set the sprinkler days to come on as I requested. He replaced one sprinkler head and fixed a broken valve, for which he charged a reasonable price. I was very happy with Brad's work and plan to have him back to do more work on the bubbler system.

He replaced several broken sprinkler heads and reset the timers to better water our yard. He gave us some good tips. He was very helpful.

He did a terrific job! He found a leak that was down between two walls and surrounded by tress. He went to my garage and reset the timers for me. He suggested what times to run it for different parts of my yard. When it's all said and done, the leaks are fix and the timers are set so I don't have to fiddle with it. He was so straight forward, professional and helpful. He is one of the best I've ever dealt with.

They came out to let us know where everything was at. They were very good. It's all good. I would use them again.

At the time when he gave us the estimate, we decided to do the sprinkler system ONLY for now. Then, later on we'd have him do the trimming. I said this twice to him and he agreed, so we set up a time for the sprinkler repair to be done. The company called us the day before to remind us of the appointment. The lady reitterated that we were having the sprinkler AND the yard trimming done. So, for the third time I clarified, "No, we are only having them repair the sprinklers for now. On appointment day, he showed up with an entire crew to do the yard AND the sprinkler. We were shocked. My husband went to the door to see what was going on and explained once again that we had asked to only repair the sprinkler system for now. Brad (owner) got furious and said, "You are just costing me time and money," and he and crew walked off. Obviously, having been told three times over, he didn't understand that we only wanted the sprinklers repaired for now. WOW! - He is hot tempered!

The Deal was $49.00, plus materials he provided brought the total to $88.59. The owner of this company is very courteous and knowledgeable. It went very well, I will use this service again.
